Tabs

Tabs make it possible to autmatically align several different lines or elements into columns, used for example, to simulate a table. There are two types of tabs: the default tabs and personalized tabs.

Default Tabs

To use the default tabs, simply press the "tabs" key on the keyboard. The cursor will then move along 1/2 inch (according to the ruler).

Personlized Tabs

The following tab settings are available in Abiword:

  • Left tab
Left Tab    The left end of the text is aligned to the tab

  • Center tab
Center Tab    The center of the text is aligned to the tab

  • Right tab
Right Tab    The right end of the text is aligned to the tab

  • Decimal tab
Decimal Tab    The decimal point of a number is aligned to the tab

Click on the tab selector Left Tab located left of the ruler until the type of tab you want appears. Once selected, click on the ruler where you want the tab and the tab indicator appears on the ruler.

To align text, position the cursor at the beginning of the line, press the "tab" key and then type.

The tabulations are defined. Notice the tab stops positioned on the rule.

Decimal tabulation: the decimal separators are aligned on the tabulation.

To remove the tab, click and hold the tab selector on the ruler and move the tab out of the ruler.
