Gorrión gris plomizo de vientre blanco con el pico color carne. En vuelo destacan las plumas externas de la cola color blanco. Tamaño: 14-16 cm.; peso: 18-22 g. Audio (M. Oberle). Anida en gran parte de Alaska, Canadá, el oeste y noreste de los Estados Unidos y las montañas Apalaches. Inverna en gran parte de los Estados Unidos. En Puerto Rico, accidental en áreas costeras, campos y áreas urbanas (avistamiento el 16 de octubre de 1963). TAXONOMÍA: PASSERIFORMES; EMBERIZIDAE. La subespecie que se ha encontrado en Puerto Rico (Junco hyemalis hyemalis ) antiguamente era tratada como una especie aparte, el Junco Plomizo, o "Slate-colored Junco" en inglés. |
