Gorri≤n de pico grande, plumaje blanco y negro, y pecho rojo. Los inmaduros (vea foto), aunque menos llamativos que los machos adultos, suelen alejarse del curso de la migraci≤n con mayor frecuencia. Tama±o: 18-22 cm.; peso: 39-49 g. Audio (M. Oberle). En los territorios de crφa, el macho ayuda poco con la incubaci≤n, pero a diferencia de la mayorφa de las aves, a veces canta desde el nido. En Puerto Rico, una especie rara durante las migraciones en ßreas costeras, pantanos, y bosques secos y h·medos (avistamientos en el barrio Cialitos, Ciales, el 20 de noviembre de 1998; un macho y una hembra en el Bosque Estatal de Maricao el 4 de marzo de 2001; Camuy, el 15 de febrero de 2004).
