Parecido al Pato Pechiblanco pero un poco mayor y con la iridiscencia de la cabeza del macho color verde. Tamaño: 40-51 cm.; peso: 900-1,250 g. El ·nico sonido que mucha gente conoce de esta ave es el ruido de las alas cuando el ave levanta vuelo. Audio (M. Oberle). Anida en la América del Norte septentrional y Eurasia. En 1998, tanto los Patos Boludos como los Patos Pechiblancos presentaron los niveles poblacionales mßs bajos desde que los censos poblacionales en AmΘrica del Norte empezaron en 1955.
