La garganta y las mejillas negras y la mancha amarilla en las alas identifican a esta reinita. Tamaño: 12 cm.; peso: 9 g. Audio (M. Oberle). Anida en el este de los Estados Unidos en campos recién abandonados con arbustos. Típicamente inverna en América Central y el noroeste de América del Sur. En Puerto Rico, una especie rara durante las migraciones en bosques húmedos y áreas costeras. Entre 1966 y 1995, esta reinita disminuyó un 2.2% anualmente en los territorios de cría debido a que muchos bosques en América del Norte han madurado más allá de las primeras etapas de sucesión que esta especie requiere. La población de esta especie también ha disminuido debido al cruce con la Reinita Aliazul (Vermivora pinus), especie próximamente emparentada. TAXONOMÍA: PASSERIFORMES; PARULIDAE. |
