NordkappmusΘet

The local museum, NordkappmusΘet is situated in the centre of Honningsvσg, 100 m from the Hurtigruten quay, and 5 m from the SAS Nordkapp Hotel. The museum provides the best introduction to Mager°ya's cultural heritage, history and nature. The local, well trained museum guides are as fully up to date with current matters as they are with local history.

The museum is a coastal museum with permanent displays depicting fishing and daily life on the Arctic coast throughout time, the destruction during and rebuilding after second World War, and the historical development of tourism at North Cape.

Of the special exhibits, one may note the old church bell from Kjelvik (1521), King Oscar II's trowel from the foundation stone laying at North Cape in 1873, ancient fishing boats, genuine eiderdown, modern sculptures formed out fish skins and stone implements from the oldest settlement in northern Scandinavia which were discovered on Mager°ya in the summer of 1993. They are date back 10,300 years!
