Kimono Yukata and kimono are traditional Japanese dresses. The kimono is more formal than the yukata which is a kind of leisure dress. The yukata can even be worn without underwear. It is a very comfortable dress on hot summer days or after a hot bath. Yukata are cheap and made of cotton. While staying at a ryokan, you will get a yukata. Kimono, on the other hand, are made of silk and can be very expensive. It is worn at funerals, weddings, tea ceremonies, and other formal occasions. It can, however, still sometimes be seen in everyday life: especially some elder women still like to wear it. There are kimono for women and men. Kimono differ in style and color depending on the occasion on which it is worn and depending on age and marital status of the person wearing it. To get into a kimono is quite difficult, especially tying the bow of the belt (obi). Many young women need assistance to get into a kimono.
