Shinto

Nowadays, many wedding ceremonies are carried out only partially in a traditional way. The traditional part of a wedding is celebrated in Shinto style while other parts could contain Christian elements, even if the couple is not Christian. Some Japanese just like a wedding in white, possibly due to an influence of movies.
The honeymoon has become very popular too. Hawaii is the most popular destination.

A wedding ceremony usually takes place in a big hotel or a special wedding hall that sometimes is equipped with a built-in chapel. Each guest of the wedding ceremony pays the new married couple about $300 in cash.

In the year 1991, 12% of all the marriages were still arranged, mostly in the countryside. 1973 this percentage was 40%. (Japan Almanac 1996, Asahi Shinbun)
