Modern Japanese supermarkets are organized much in the same way as western supermarkets. They offer all kinds of food including western articles like bread, cheese and yogurt.
The portions and packages that are sold in Japanese supermarkets are usually smaller than comparable packages sold in Europe or, especially, in America; nevertheless, their prices are at least the same.

Many department stores also offer beautiful food departments which are usually located in the basement floor.

Convenience Stores (konbini), like "Family Mart", "Lawson Station", or "7 Eleven" can be found everywhere in Japanese cities. Beverages, instant food, bento (lunch boxes), and some of the most important goods for everyday life are sold there.
