Mongolia Horse Treks w/ Naadam Festival - 1998
June 27-July 15 or July 8-25


JUNE DEPARTURE (Scroll down for July Departure)

June 27: Depart for Beijing.

June 28: Arrive Beijing, transfer to hotel.

June 29: Fly to Ulaan Baatar, capitol of Mongolia, on MIAT Airlines. Transfer to hotel. Afternoon orientation and sightseeing.

June 30: Morning flight from Ulaan Baatar to Moron on MIAT airlines. Begin driving north to Darhat Valley. Camp out.

July 1: Continue driving through mountains via Ulaan-Uul into Darhat Valley. Camp out.

July 2: Arrive in Renchinluhmbe, local county seat. Meet local guides, wranglers and horses. Shakedown ride. Camp out.

July 3: Ride approximately 20 miles across northern Darhat Valley towards the Shishgid River. Camp out with vehicle support.

July 4: Ride approximately 20 miles to Boojum Lodge at Shishgid/Tengis river confluence. Overnight at lodge.

July 5: Spare day to rest, fish, day ride.

July 6,7,8: Pack trip to the summer camp of the Tsataan (reindeer people). Approximately 15 miles per day, camping out with pack horse support. Return to lodge.

July 9: Spare day at lodge. Day ride, fish or hike.

July 10: Ride back to Renchinluhmbe. Camp out.

July 11: Naadam Festival in Renchinluhmbe. Mongolia's annual summer celebration with horse races, wrestling, archery and pageantry. Camp out.

July 12: Fly by helicopter to Ulaan Baatar. Overnight in hotel.

July 13: Spare day.

July 14: Fly to Beijing, overnight in hotel.

July 15: Return flight home.

NOTE: The exact finish date of this itinerary will be determined one month before the trip. We have allowed spare days if weather or other variables cause delays. The use of the helicopter for the return flight to Ulaan Baatar is contingent upon having a minimum number of passengers for the July 8 Mongolia Horse Trek departure, which will use the helicopter on the outbound leg.

JULY DEPARTURE

July 8: Depart for Beijing.

July 9: Arrive Beijing, transfer to hotel.

July 10: Fly to Ulaan Baatar, capitol of Mongolia, on MIAT Airlines. Transfer to hotel. Afternoon orientation and sightseeing.

July 11: All day in Ulaan Baatar viewing the Naadam Festival; Mongolia's annual summer celebration with horse races, wrestling, archery and pageantry. Overnight in hotel.

July 12: Sightsee in Ulaan Baatar or, weather permitting, fly by helicopter to Renchinluhmbe, local county seat. Camp out.

July 13: Meet local guides, wranglers and horses. Shakedown ride. Camp out.

July 14: Ride approximately 20 miles across northern Darhat Valley towards the Shishgid River. Camp out with vehicle support.

July 15: Ride approximately 20 miles to Boojum Lodge at Shishgid/Tengis river confluence. Overnight at lodge.

July 16: Spare day to rest, fish, day ride.

July 17,18,19,20: Pack trip to the summer camp of the Tsataan (reindeer people). Approximately 15 miles per day, camping out with pack horse support. Return to lodge.

July 21: Drive to Renchinluhmbe. Camp out.

July 22: Drive to Moron. Camp out.

July 23: Fly from Moron to Ulaan Baatar on MIAT Airlines. Overnight in hotel.

July 24: Fly to Beijing, transfer to hotel. Free afternoon.

July 25: Return flight home.

NOTE: The use of the helicopter for the flight from Ulaan Baatar to Renchinluhmbe is contingent upon having a second group (June 27 Mongolia Horse Trek)to occupy the helicopter on the outbound flight. In the event that the second group does not operate, we will fly to Moron and drive to Renchinluhmbe, using the spare days in the itinerary.
