Well, my most anticipated game of 1997 has finally been realized in this beta. When it was initially released, the packaging was all fucked up and we were all convinced it was a fake. However, everything sorted itself out and now we have a brand spanking tangible fully playable version of the game that will rock our computers for a long while (at least until Quake 2). This release wasn't without problems, a fix was needed, many people downloaded versions with fucked up arjs, and you need to manually type MAP "mapname" in the console to get it running. However, all these minor inconveniences mean nothing, when you have such an amazing game. Take Quake, add cooler monsters, levels, textures, sound, weapons, and atmosphere, and you have Hexen 2. In GL mode (on my beautiful baby Monster 3d 3dfx card) this game is just georgeous. I spent the better half of a night just roaming the levels, marvelling at the georgeous architecture and the beautiful and speedy graphics. For a beta, this game is
amazing. There are 27 levels (not all are fully playable yet) but this makes for a lot of good gaming. I suggest particularily that you visit the Egypt levels...they are just magnificant. NEVER have I been so impressed with a game in my entire gaming career...but then again I loved the first Hexen too. Unfortunately, many of the SFX have been made to be the default Windows annoying PING sound..which gets irritating very fast (but the rest of the SFX are stunning). The low res version of this game is ugly, relative to the GL version, but still quite pretty, and rather smooth. If you are eager to get a glimpse of the greatest game of all time (in my eyes) then download this beta. It is more than worth its download time. Raven should be applauded for taking Id's engine and showing them what can be done with it in terms of levels and gameplay. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!!!! DOWNLOAD IT NOW!!!
