NATiON News - Article by Sociopath [NATiON]
Nation is a high level computer generated art group that believes in
competition. Competition brings out the best in everybody. We're
focused to bringing you the best art that we can produce every month
between the 1st through the 5th.
Poop is a kooky mini mag that's released on a bi-monthly basis and
is geared toward being funny, outragious, and sometimes just too
crazy for ya kid. While we're serious in the quality of our art
that is released we feel that we don't have to be stiffs about it
and have lots of fun doing projects such as poop.
Yuck is another interesting, stupid, funny, whatever adjective you
think applies idea that the people here at nation have come up with.
What it is, is our members' first art which usually isn't too great.
What it's for is to give beginning artists motivation to get good
by practicing and a little reminder that it's very unusual for
someone just to pick up thedraw and throw out 200+ line sweet-ass
ansis on their first try.
Spotlight is from the mind of Final Descendant. It will feature one
nation artist each month in an in-depth interview on the more serious
side and a vga ansi consisting of that person's best works.
That was just a little brief description on each little project we do
each month. We are a laid back group, (we don't pressure you for ansis)
if you miss a month it's not the end of the world. We're here for the
fun and pure enjoyment of drawing computer generated art and putting
out packs that we can be proud of.
If you are interested in applying to Nation, the fastest way to get
ahold of us would be through Death Row(WHQ) or any of the other HQ's.

Article by Betrayer [SHiVER]
Betrayer, Shiver SS here to write up a little article for my buds
of Emigre Mag about Shiver and whats been happening with us. Anyhow, most
of you guys proably have heard of Shiver, while some might not of. Shiver
has produced 3 quality art packs, dating from June '94 to August '94.
Others might rember me from Manifest, a much smaller group that has
recently merged with Shiver. The Last month for Shiver, things have gone
quite smoothly and have gained and picked up many new members to add to
the already talented Shiver Crew. With the merger of Manifest and
Shiver, which actully turned out good unlike the *cough* vi merge and a
pick up of many talented members, Shiver has grown to become one of the
better art groups in the art scene today. If you brothered looking at our
last pack, which i think was the best yet but could of been better of a few
more guys would of actully helped out and done some work, but i wont
mention any names, you would of noticed some new faces in the Shiver
Crew as well as some old ones. But even after the last release pack, we
have gained a few new members into our group, I havent been told of all of
them but I know we gained 2 very good excellent vga artists as well a few
more ansi artists who will rock the art scene! I don't want to ruin the
surprise so I will let TG write another 1001 News Letter and plug in all
the new guys who we have gotten over the last month! Last month was a
over great month for Shiver, as of many other art groups. Alot of the new
members have produced awsome work as well as some of the orginal guys
which has made Shiver what it has become today this day in age. If you
would like to join up with the Shiver Team, call the Shiver WorldHQ board.
Evil Intentions at 408-251-6220, apply and say wut you must and hopefully
you will get on. If you want to become a distro, you *HAVE* to get into
Shiver Net, and Proze is the man to contact for the Net. Sorry for the
small plug guys, just had to do it! ;] Anyhow, thats the place to be to
get into Shiver, or if you got IRC access, join #shiver to get in contact
with one of the Shiver Seniors. Anyways, seems like Shiver is gettting
better and better each month and wont go away! We still could use a
little more of everything to add to the already awsome Shiver Crew.
If you missed our last pack I recommened you go and call a art board and
check it out. You will piss in your pants at some of the art that some
of the Shiver Members have produced. If you havent heard of Shiver by
now, then you just aint much into the art scene I guess. Shiver is not
only a quality art group, but also a big happy (most of the time) family.
Sometimes there are fights like every other group has have, but most of the
time we are very friendy (unless its that time of the month again) people.
If you are in need of a art group to join, then consider Shiver. That
pretty much wraps it up for now, since TG pretty much told everything and a
whole lot more in the last update, aint much to say for now. Thankz for
taking the time for reading this so called article and hope you have a nice
day! Signing off,
Betrayer <Shiver SS and a whole lot more!>

Wat's the Happs in da islandz???
Article by Smooth [ACiD.TL]
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
It's basically a warm day in the islands and the hottest thing here
besides for the sun, is TekLordZ Productions. A fairly awesome group here
in (808) Hawaii, TekLordZ has made a name for themselves and has gained
quite a good response from people who admire their releases. With their
Magazine creation 'EMiGRE' it's pretty much an uphill climb from here up.
On another note, Hawaii is pretty cool place if you can survive the
standard of living down here. People sometimes percieve this state as
being ONLY a Tourism based society and that we all live in grass shacks.
Well, we DON'T. We live perfectly NORMAL "AMERICAN" lives. Sometimes
it's hard to see Hawaii as a STATE being that it's just a couple of
islands chained together. But we do enjoy the everyday things that are
available in the continental U.S. of A. Though some fads, clothing
trends and Music get here quite a bit later then most states, we end up
absorbing all of them just the same.
The computer modeming scene is quite abundant here in Hawaii as
well. Quite a lot of Public Domain Bulletin Board Systems here. The
WAREZ scene is kinda drab if not for one |<-RA|> system that had
DOMiNATORS/LEGEND*PC affils. SiNCiTY is the coolest system to get the
fastest warez in 808 if you knew the #. Only open to a few locals, it
was basically a place for international traders to hang out on and
send/recieve files. As far as art related, the only and still the
best art system in 808 is my board, Dungeon 2. Been down for almost 3
months now but will return this month as soon as I move into my new
home. The # will be posted on several networks and the next mag.
The art scene had been off and on here in Hawaii till TeKlordZ
came along. There is another group here in 808 that claims to be a
rival to us. hahaha Freakin morons don't even come close. Their ANSis
suck, their coders suck, besides for a few of them that do music
(Dreamer and Shadow Streaker) the group basically rates #1 on the LAME
chart here in Hawaii. Just would like to say that if anyone catches any
C-Link releases floating around with a font set used in our first Issue
of EMiGRE. It is a stolen font set from TekLordZ Productions. We found
out from an anonymous tip that Paperboy [C-Link] (<-what a laugh) was
goin' around braggin' how he got the fontset from Issue #1 of EMiGRE and
made it into a .COM or .EXE file. Probably cause he doesn't know how
to program it in, and only way he knows how to use the fontset is by
external means. FUCK! Besides for all this crap goin' on, I also
do my own art releases through ACiD. Proud to be a member of ACiD and
appreciate Rad Man's help and support. Throughout my experience in the
art scene, he's been 'in my mind' the most supportive of the members
of the group. Gettin' us on conferences, finding requests to be done,
collecting all our shit and compiling it in the most awesome packs
for each month's releases.
Besides for the regular BBS scene, a lot of people have caught on to
Internet pretty quick. Many get their access through work, school, or
by companies offerin' accounts for a slight fee per month. FYI, a
government owned info exchange system also offers Internet, public
information and multi-user chats that has been overrun by a vast amount of
people daily.
On the Local scene outside of the house. We pretty much go cruisin',
go out to nightclubs, and catch the latest movies. One of the great
aspects of Hawaii has always been their awesome beaches. Nice blue sky!
Sorry California dudes. ;) hehehe Beautiful tropical surroundings
plus of course, island babes. Just don't look too much in Waikiki cause
you'll only see a bunch of tourist babes. hehehe Oh yeah, we still rate
highest on beach wear. If you want awesome beach clothin', there's no
better place to get them then Hawaii. That's about it for Hawaii.
Hope you guys got a good summation of it all. L8rs.

Maestro's Goodbye
Maestro [NATiON]
09-19-94
It's about 1:30am. I didn't have to work today, so I spent most
of the day bumming around and hanging with my friends. Around 11:30pm
I called Sociopath and talked to him for awhile about the board and
Nation. We started to talk about the old days, back when we were
running Eternity. It's funny, it seems back then I could say anything
and no one would really pay me any mind. Probably because they either
didn't know who the hell I was or they really didn't care, because I
was just a part of a small insignificant group that was in no
way a threat to them in their eyes. Boy have things changed. It's been
a few months since those days. A month in the ansi scene feels like a
year. Alot can happen in one month. Imagine a few. Well it's been
awhile since those Eternity days, and I find that now I have a totally
different outlook on the scene. You see, back then I was just a
spectator sitting out on the sidelines. Now, I along with alot of
other people, experience everything first hand. We all get a piece of
the action. No longer am I a part of a small insignificant group that
is in no way a threat to anyone. Now, I am a part of a Nation. Along
with the rest of my fellow Nation members, I am in the spotlight with
everyone watching us. Everyone hoping in some form or the other. But you
know, it really doesn't mean much. Now we have people clinging to our every
word, and always striving to find a fault in it. We have people hoping for
failure and humiliation. We have people throwing everything they can at us
hoping to make a scratch or dent. And at one point I actually asked myself
"Is it really worth it? Just to say we're having fun?" I mean
I'm contributing my time just to help get together a pack of artwork
every month for you guys to look at. There are alot of other things I could
be doing. Well, almost immediately after I asked that question I very
confidently answered it with a "yes." It was worth it. You know why?
Because those people are a small number. Because with every word that's
clung to and critisized, there is someone that understands we're only
human. Because with every hope for failure, there is a hope for greatness.
Because, with every piece of garbage thrown at us, there is always
that person sitting on the sidelines saying "You guys did an awesome
job." And that my friends, made it all worth while. A great big "Thank
You" goes out to each and everyone of you that took the time to
recognize and appreciate the time and dedication we put into every
Nation pack.
Ansi has to be one of the most interesting hobbies I have ever been
involved with. And as I look back to the day I started, I find that the
reason I stuck with it was because it was fun. But alas, all good things
come to an end. And as I look at what's important in my life I find that
ansi just isn't there. Basicly, it's time for me to get my priorities
straight and grow up. Most of you can't understand that because your
priorities are all out of whack. Well, I have now been presented with an
oppurtunity to do something I've always dreamed of doing, and I'm not going
to pass it up. Which means I must focus all of myself towards achieving
this goal I've had ever since I was a young kid. I am glad to have been
able to partake in this fun, however extremely addicting hobby. I am also
very proud to have contributed a few things to the scene that have made
some considerable impacts such as FART (which incidently is now an ansi
household name:) ), Proclaim, which in my opinion was my greatest
contribution, and of course Nation, which I could have never done
witout the help of some of the coolest guys in the scene. I'm not going to
bitch about how there were so many assholes in the scene or anything like
that. All I'll say is it was quite an experience. One that I think I can
actually learn some things from.
As for Nation, I wish it the best of luck. It was lots of fun and in
my opinion one of the greatest art groups of all time, simply because
of the enormous amount of strength and endurance it possesses combined
with some of the freshest and creative ideas the scene has ever known.
Mr. Sinister is a great guy, and I think he'll do a great job with the
group. He's passed so many tests that you guys wouldn't believe and I
trully think he is fit to take it over. This same time last year I
entered the "LD" ansi scene with the creation of Eternity. Now I exit with
the creation of Nation.
You know something, to tell you the truth, the thing I'll probably miss
the most about the ansi scene was all the great arguments I got in to
(most of which I won!). I loved having people tell me I couldn't do
something, simply because I loved to prove them wrong. It kept things
exciting. Heh, it's funny. The whole reason I got involved in the ansi
scene was to prove a small group of locals wrong. Boy, that was stupid.
But before I end this, I'd like you all to remember something about
myself. I never backed down from a challenge. I never walked away from
a fight. I never kissed anyones ass. I never cared what anyone else thought
of me. I never did something to please someone else. And most of all, I
never, ever let anyone bring me down.
Anyway, back to the question, "Is it really worth it? Just to say
I'm having fun?" After some thought I came up with a new answer to that
question. Yes, it is. As long as it doesn't interfere with what's important
in life. To all of my fellow artists in the scene, all I ask is that
you think about what I said.
Maestro [Ex-Eternity/Ex-ACiD/EX-TRiBE/Ex-Nation]
Hah! You didn't think I'd leave without telling you all how much of
a bunch of losers you all are did you! Come on, this is Maestro you're
talking about chumps! HELLO!! What in the hell do you geeks all think
ansi is going to get you in life? Reality check boys, nothing! Nada!
Zip! ZILCH! How many of you can honestly say you've had a few
girlfriends? Hmmm? How many of you can actually say you have more
friends than you can count on one hand? How many of you have jobs? How
many of you honestly think that your future will be one filled with
success? I bet the majority of you are all a bunch of high school drop outs
like our good fat ass friend with a bad hair cut that brags about how he's
always at parties when we all know he never leaves fucking IRC!!
Coughcoughcoughdeeplydisturbedcoughcough! Hey, I dunno know about you guys,
but he sounds like one intense party animal to me! A perfect Friday
night for you guys is jerking off on a 1-800 teleconference prank
calling Shihear! If someone that knew absoloutely nothing about the
scene popped on one of those things he'd think he was on a gay party
line. You're all the same, none of you have any guts. You're all a
bunch of mindless little drones. So easy to control. Someone from one
group calls you up and says "Come to my group! You'll be so elite! Everyone
will love you!" So you go. Then someone from another group calls you up and
gives you the same bullshit so you go there. Then the guys from the other
group call you up and beg you to come back... It's like a fucking pinball
game! You know, I think the majority of you schmucks do it because you
love all the attention. Why? Because you get absoloutely none of it in
the real world! Why? Well besides the fact you're probably all a bunch
of deformed looking freak balls, you spend any ounce of time you might
have to go out and socialize playing on the computer!
And what is with this shit about artists always wanting to be
called all the time? Now tell me, do you guys like the sound of our
voices or something? Are you that desperate for companionship? Does it make
you feel like masturbating right then and there? It must, because the day
you don't get a call you start whining and crying about how lame the group
is or whatever. HELLO! Is this an ansi group or the fucking Get Along
Gang? You know what else I love, I love these jokers that think
everyone in the scene is there "friend." Awww, how sweeeet. "Guess
what Mom! I met this really cool kid on IRC today and he's going to
call me so we can talk about how cool ansi is and how elite we are
because we can rip off other peoples work!" It makes me sick! No one
in the scene is your friend, got it! If you've never met this person, if
you don't really know them, they are aquatiences dick face! My god!
You guys are really pathetic!
You know, I must say though I was quite entertained with you lame
asses. I got alot of laughs talking to some of you freaks. Any of you
guys ever talk to Desolated Dream? Hah! Now that is some funny stuff!
I bet this guys favorite movie is "When Harry Met Sammy!" The guy
sounds like a complete fag! Wait, I take that back. He sounds like a
complete stupid ass fag! Or how about this Lord Vice character. The
guy is a total schitzo! Let's see, he was Lord Vice in Nation and
Dessalvo in Dark. One of Dessalvo's favorite past times was giving
greets to Lord Vice in his ansis which was HIMSELF! LOOOOOOOOOSERRR!
Damn, I should have kicked his lame ass out of Nation sooner!
It's the Shihear/Kronix thing all over again! Speaking of Shihear. I
don't have much to say about this guy that hasn't been said already.
I think we all need to give this guy a round of applause for actually
quitting the ansi scene! Praise god! I think there is hope for him
yet! I dunno kow about his butt buddy Cavalier though, that guy needs
some serious help. I think the only time he leaves IRC is to go do
some hardcore BBSing. Now that guy is one major bad ass, you don't
want to mess with him! While I'm talking about Tribe guys.. How about,
that guy Minor Threat! Is he awesome or what! I just love those
wannabe Hannibal Lecter fonts (don't ask me why anyone would want to
try and rip that lame ass shit). Is it just me or does this guy have one
hand shoved up his ass? That could explain the sTUPID aSS tYPING. Hey, and
we can't forget about the iCE poster boy Shaggy! Now he is one cool cat. I
hope someone shoves a crack vile up your ass you fucking burnout. Boy oh
boy, the list just goes on and on and on! But you know what, unlike most of
you, I have a life. So, I'm going to end this here and now. I hope I pissed
alot of you off. Trust me, there were a hell of alot more people I intended
to rag on but I have things to do. And guess what folks! Those things have
NOTHING to do with ansi!! HA!
Maestro again you fucknut!
