IMPORTANT RELEASE NOTES -- PLEASE READ!
This archive contains a wide beta of Doors/2, a multithreaded, native
OS/2 door library based on OpenDoors. This port is entirely the work of
Joel W. Downer; Brian Pirie, the author of OpenDoors, bears no
responsibility for supporting the library and no blame for any mistakes
or defects it may contain.
This version of the library, v. 4.10 wide beta 1, has two important
limitations. First of all, it requires Borland C/C++ for OS/2.
Attempting to use it with a program built with another OS/2 compiler
(such as Watcom, CSet++, or GNU) will lead to linker errors. Second,
the library is based on the sources for OpenDoors 4.10. If you are
trying to port a program targeted to the newly-released OpenDoors 5.00
or the OpenDoors 5.00 betas, you may encounter difficulties.
Don't panic! <g> If you use a compiler other than BC-OS/2, or if you
develop with OpenDoors 5.00, you don't need to rush out and buy a new
compiler or start converting your code for OpenDoors 4.10 compatibility.
I am already hard at work at updating Doors/2 for OpenDoors 5.00
compatibility *and* compatibility with popular non-Borland compilers.
Barring unexpected obstacles, wide beta 2 -- with both these features --
should be available in a few weeks.
I'm usually allergic to wide betas. I don't like to release anything
until it's thoroughly tested and as bug-free as I know how to make it.
However, I've received fairly urgent requests for this library, and I
don't want to let my vanity get in the way of helping other developers.
I can't promise you that this wide beta is bug-free. What I can promise
you is that support will be readily available and that bugs will be
fixed. In appreciation for your willingness to bear with me through the
wide beta, I will also be offering a substantial early registration
discount for people who register before December 31, 1994. Please see
the "Support" section of the docs for information on how to reach me
with questions and bug reports, and the "Registration" section and
REGISTER.FRM for information on the discount and how to register your
copy of Doors/2.
Thanks for trying out the library!
Joel Downer
