  17. This document is a commentary on current seismic activity.  The
  18. earthquakes discussed have been detected and processed
  19. automatically.  All epicenters and magnitudes have been reviewed
  20. to exclude obvious blunders; however, they must still be
  21. considered preliminary.  For further information, please contact

  28. This week's Report covers the time period from midnight Thursday
  29. morning, October 6, Pacific Daylight Time, to midnight Wednesday
  30. night, October 12, Pacific Daylight Time.  We recorded 307
  31. earthquakes of M1.0 or larger this week.
  32.         Although the total number of events was up slightly from
  33. last week (but still within the expected range), most of this
  34. week's quakes were small.  Only two were felt, neither of which
  35. was an aftershock.  The largest was a M3.9 in the Ocotillo Wells
  36. area south of Borrego Springs.  This quake occurred on Saturday
  37. night, and we got a few calls.  A much smaller quake (M2.8)
  38. occurred in the Idyllwild area on Tuesday afternoon.  It was felt
  39. in Idyllwild.
  40.         Aside from these, not much of note occurred. Our two
  41. aftershock sequences, namely Northridge and Landers/Big Bear,
  42. still dominate the map.
  43.         The table lists the quakes this week that were M2.0 or
  44. larger in the central part of the coverage area.  Times are local
  45. times; if you want Greenwich Mean Time, add 7 hrs, to the Daylight
  46. Time listed.
