  17.         This document is a commentary on current seismic activity.  The
  18.         earthquakes discussed have been detected and processed
  19.         automatically.  All epicenters and magnitudes have been reviewed
  20.         to exclude obvious blunders; however, they must still be
  21.         considered preliminary.  For further information, please contact

  28.         This week's Report covers the time period from midnight Thursday
  29.         morning, September 1, Pacific Daylight Time, to midnight Wednesday
  30.         night, September 7, Pacific Daylight Time.  We recorded 338
  31.         earthquakes this week.
  32.                 Both of the quakes that were felt this week were
  33.         Northridge aftershocks: a M2.7 on Monday afternoon, near San
  34.         Fernando, and a a M2.7 late Tuesday afternoon, near Canoga Park.
  35.         No aftershocks, to the Northridge or to the Landers earthquakes,
  36.         were above M3.0.
  37.                 There were two M3+ events in the Coalinga/Parkfield area,
  38.         on Tuesday morning (M3.1) and on Wednesday afternoon (M3.0).
  39.         If you need further information on these quakes, see the
  40.         Northern California Earthquake Report or contact the U.S.
  41.         Geological Survey in Menlo Park (415-864-8300).  Another event of
  42.         interest, a M4.1 southwest of Modesto on Wednesday, occurred in
  43.         the Menlo Park coverage area.
  44.                 There were 16 more events in the on-going Fontana swarm,
  45.         but the largest was M2.0.  None of them were apparently felt.
  46.                 The table lists the quakes that were M2.0 or larger in
  47.         the central part of the coverage area.  Times are local times;
  48.         if you want Greenwich Mean Time, add 7 hrs, to the Daylight
  49.         Time listed.
