September, 1994
The BBS season is about to begin for us again. Kids are back in school and
the boards will all be picking up in activity. Smartnet has grown quite a
bit this month just by looking at all the new systems added to the NODE.LST
which is in this mail packet.
We welcome all the new Planet Connect systems which are now distributing
Smartnet. We ask that you advertise and promote the network on your board.
Remember, this is YOUR network. Your members and your input are what makes
all this happen. The growth of the network is in your hands.
Let's start seeing more activities in those conference message bases!
August, 1994
Wow! August has been a great month for Smartnet!
We are now distributing Smartnet over Planet Connect. If you
are a Planet Connect satellite customer, then you will be finding a new
subdirectory on your Skydata drive for your daily Smartnet mail feed.
You can directly upload your mail into the Smartnet conferences and make
them readily available to all your members on a regular basis.
NEW NODE IDs are required for ALL Planet Connect members. You
must call SOM or FBX to get a new node ID. Type Smartnet when
you get onto the main board of SOM or FBX and then "P" for
Planet Connect. You will get your node ID immediately and ready
to install. Mail replies from your system will not be inserted
unless you have this new node ID.
FLORIDA BYTE EXCHANGE
=====================
The Florida Byte Exchange in Fort Lauderdale, Florida is the new
alternative MAIN hub for Smartnet hub and node mail exchange. If you
wish to call FBX at (305) 972-1901, ERIC LEITNER, the sysop of FBX will
upgrade your Smartnet status and RE-assign a node ID for you. Smartnet
now maintains two FULL central hubs on the network. Regional hubs are
still active and can call either MAIN hub for their daily mail
exchanges.
New Smartnet Conference - Internet Help - Conference #36 on
SOM. This new conference has been opened for Smartnet users seeking
further assistance to navigate the Internet. Please post this new
conference on all Smartnet systems and announce it to your members.
July, 1994
We've added a few more systems to the Smartnet Node List this month.
If you are a Smartnet sysop, be sure that your node is listed. If not call
SOM and complete the Smartnet node list by typing SMARTNET at the prompt on
the Main Board or the Smartnet conferences.
We are presently working with "Planet Connect" to get all of the Smartnet
Conferences up on the satellite. Hopefully this will all be completed by the
end of the month to be announced in next months edition. Smartnet is growing
all the time, thanks to your continued support.
May, 1994
Here is the latest copy of the Smartnet node list.
Be sure to place a copy of "NODE.LST" in the directory where you are
running the Smartnet PPE program. The PPE will automatically send your
node updates directly to SOM! Follow the directions within the PPE
program (available from SOM).
I will try to point out new features of Smartnet in this file on a
monthly basis.
I am happy to announce that Smartnet did add 12 new nodes to the network
this month. I hope everyone enjoys their contributions to the network.
If YOUR node is not appearing in the current node list, then we have not
received your information here on SOM. Either dial up SOM directly at
(516) 536-8723 and type SMARTNET at the Main Board prompt. Or log onto
your hub and enter the SMARTNET PPE program available on that system.
