SoftWare Collector v2.4 by Chris Bumgardner
---------------------------------------------
With SoftWare Collector, you can keep track of your software accurately,
and relatively painlessly. All you do is type the info about your program,
and then you can sort, search, edit, add, print, and so on. This program took
a lot of work, so please support Shareware and register this product. For those
who don't know what Shareware is: Shareware is a type of software with the
"Try before you buy" theory. In other words, if you like it, you're supposed
to register it. Otherwise, us programmers would be out of a job, and you
wouldn't be able to get all this great software for such a cheap price. I would
ask that you send $10 (the price of a medium pizza, or a music tape, or two
movie tickets for cryin' out loud!) or whatever you think appropriate. By doing
so, you will be entitled to the registered version of this program (no reminder
screens), informed of other programs, future versions, etc. Please send checks
to:

Thanks! :)

On with the program....
Revisions
----------
This new version fixed various features
The Program!
------------
Just type "SWC24" to run the Software Collector
Controls:
---------
You can use the Up and Down arrows on the menus, or the mouse. The Left mouse
button acts as <Enter> and the Right mouse button as <Escape>.
Main Menu:
----------
When you start the program, you have the options of:
1) Edit Collection
2) Sort Collection
3) Search Collection
4) Other
5) Quit
1) Edit Collection
------------------
From here, you will be asked to type in the name of the file that you are
currently saving your information to. If the file is in the current
directory, just type the name. If it's in a different directory, supply
the path. For instance, if the file is "SOFTWARE.DAT", and it's in the
directory "C:\DOS", just enter "C:\DOS\SOFTWARE.DAT". You will be asked
this every time you choose a menu option other than "Other" or "Quit".
Fortunately, if you have already entered a filename, you can just press
<Enter>.
Next, your choices are:
"Enter Record" - Lets you enter a new record into the collection,
adding it after the last record you entered.
"View Records" - Lets you scroll (using the Left and Right arrow keys)
through your current records
"Delete" - Lets you delete one or all of your records
2) Sort Collection
------------------
Under this menu, you have many choices for sorting your collection. Just
pick the order you'd like your collection, and it'll sort automatically.
For instance, to sort in Alphabetical order, pick sort by Name. To sort
by the year (from earliest on) pick Year. So on, and so on.
3) Search Collection
--------------------
From here, you can look up a record, and/or change a record. Just pick
one of the two.
Find record gives you options that you can search by. It's not case
sensative, so capital letters don't count. After it finds the
record(s) you were looking for, use the Left and Right arrow keys to
scroll through the records.
Change record prompts you for the record number. To find this out, either
view your records to see the Record # or Search for the specific record.
Enter the number, and you can edit the record just the same way you do
under "Edit Collection/Enter Record". When you have changed it to your
liking, just press <Enter> until you have the prompt for the record #. Or
if you wish to cancel, just hit <Escape>.
4) Other
--------
The last menu lets you:
"Print Records"
"Change Colors"
"Shell to DOS"
Printing records is obvious. Just make sure that you have paper in, and
the printer is on.
Change Colors gives you some options on the color scheme. You start out
in black and white, but something like White over Blue is more appealing
to the eyes. The colors are stored in "SOFTWARE.CFG". If this file is
deleted, the program will recreate it using the good ol' black and white
scheme.
Shell to DOS lets you go to DOS without actually leaving the program, so
you can execute some commands. (Search for a file, etc.) There is much
less Conventional memory here, so many regular programs and apps. (Windows,
games, etc...) most likely won't run. To get back into the program, just
type "EXIT".
That's about it. If you have any questions or comments, write to me at my
address at the top of this file, or E-Mail me on CompuServe at:
73061, 2467. Thanks for using this program, and please register!
