  12. This diskette contains the ZIPKEY zipcode-areacode-timezone 
  13. directory and keyboard enhancement program.  Please feel free 
  14. to distribute the files by uploading them to bulletin-board 
  15. systems, and by copying and distributing the diskette to anyone 
  16. interested.

  18. You can setup ZIPKEY on your hard drive by typing either 
  19. A:INSTALL or B:INSTALL (depending on whether the diskette is in 
  20. the A or B drive) to your DOS prompt.  You should run INSTALL 
  21. even if you have already copied the files to your hard drive -- 
  22. it will set ZIPKEY to your tinezone, and create a handy 
  23. ZIPS.BAT file for you.

  26. What's New In This Version
  27.  
  28. ZIPKEY version 3 adds time zones to the database (43000+ time 
  29. zone records occupying a grand total of 273 bytes!).  Now when 
  30. you type in a zipcode or a city name, ZIPKEY will tell you what 
  31. the city's time zone is, and show you the current time there.  
  32. There are also specifiers for playing back timezone codes as 
  33. keystrokes, should you wish to do so.

  35. I have also added an INSTALL program, to make ZIPKEY much easier 
  36. to set up and use.  INSTALL will copy the ZIPKEY files to your 
  37. hard drive, set up a ZIPS.BAT file for easy invocation from any 
  38. DOS prompt, and, if you wish, modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT to 
  39. include the line that installs memory-resident ZIPKEY.  INSTALL 
  40. can also print out the manual, and make copies of this 
  41. evaluation diskette for you to give to your friends.

  43. Of course, the data itself is updated every month.  The 
  44. evaluation data is constrained to be at least six months old, 
  45. so that you're now getting the data provided to registered 
  46. users six months ago.

  49. File Name Conventions for BBS Uploading

  51. I have abandoned a previous request that the program-and-manual 
  52. be in a separate file from the data.  It has proved to be too 
  53. confusing, and with inexpensive 14400-baud modems available, it 
  54. isn't burdensome to download everything at once.

  56. So I recommend the distribution file name be either ZIPKEY, or 
  57. ZIPKEYym, where y is the last digit of the year of the data, 
  58. and m is the month of the data (1=Jan, ... , A=Oct B=Nov 
  59. C=Dec).  The extension of the file will, of course, reflect the 
  60. compression program used.

  62. Examples: ZIPKEY45.ZIP will be the PKZIPped version containing 
  63. the 5/94 data.  ZIPKEY5C.ARJ will be the ARJ-compressed file 
  64. containing the 12/95 data.  If you prefer not to have version 
  65. information in file names, you can use just ZIPKEY.ZIP.
