Programmer's Notes
Sinister Outlaw [TRSI/SCUM/CORRUPTION]
Welcome to the second issue of Corruption Magazine, I'm glad to report that
the transition between Eternal Lie coding and myself doing the coding has been
a rather smooth one. The code was rewritten entirely in Turbo Pascal 6, and is,
as far as I know, 100% bug-free at this point. I'm not going to get into great
detail on how to operate the magazine, becuase I modeled the look and feel in
the style of alomst every other text-based mag out there. Here is the basic way
the mag works.
Keys From The Opening Screen :
Up - Scrolls Highlight Up One Space
Down - Scrolls Highlight Down One Space
[Left and Right are used in the T2 interface]
Enter - Chooses article or section you would like to go into
Esc - Exits the magazine and brings you back to DOS
F1 - Change Interface
Keys From Article Selection Box :
Up/Down - Scrolls highlight
Enter - Chooses article
Esc - Exit box, return to interface
Keys From Inside The Article Viewer :
Up - Scrolls Article Up
Down - Scrolls Article Down
Home - Brings you to the first line of the article
End - Brings you to the last line of the article
PGUp - Scrolls article up one page
PGDn - Scrolls article down one page
Esc - Exits article and brings you back to the selection box
Tips For Running Magazine :
- Have some memory free, I can't be exactly sure how much it needs, but it
should run fine on any normal system with around 500k or more free. In other
words just don't have some huge program loaded in the main memory above the
mag because it just increases the chance something will go wrong.
- If the magazine is running too slow here are some tips to make it run faster.
- Clear Out Memory by removing TSRs, etc.
- Unload Windows/Desqview or any other multitasker.
- Turn off EMM386 or QEMM386, they tend to slow down the magazine for some
reason or another, this is a very dramatic difference on a slower 386
system.
- Go for a new CPU. If you got an 8088 it's time to move into the 80s and get
at least a 386.
- There really shouldn't be any problems. I run a 386-33, with 4 Megs of Ram,
a standard VGA card, and I haven't had a single problem throughout my testing.
But, nobody's perfect, and it's hard to write perfect code, espically when you
write a little bit here, little bit there, come back a week later, put a bit
there, etc. But, it should work fine, but if you encounter a bug of some sort
please mail me on Total Chaos and mail me and let me know what's wrong.
Thanks for bearing through this with me and enjoy the rest of the magazine.
Oh, also all of the Editor's Notes at the bottom of some articles are written
by me. So if you got a problem with anything written down there, I'm responsible
for it.

Reply to HOOPTiE''s Attack
Corruption Staff
"Reply to HOOPTiE's attack on Corruption" : Kinayda
Well there I was reading Dreadloc magazine, only to find that there was an
article about Corruption? For no apparant reason, so here's my reply.
HP> As most of you know, I am not one who stands upon a soap-box
HP>for no reason; I usually have to be provoked, mocked, or insulted
HP>to start tearing into someone or some group. However this time,
HP>this "session" has gone totally unprovoked. This is about
HP>a magazine,"Corruption", which I have NEVER heard of, never
HP>seen "hype" for it, and have never seen a single release of it.
HP>Worse yet, I am not even aware of who the staff are; however,
HP>their aninymity to my environment does not change their
HP>ignorance.
Like you said, we did not provoke you, mock you or insult you at all.
Well you've already proved one of my points, first off, you don't even
know us or know what we're about. But you seem to blow up at us from
because you heard something about us. And that shows your ignorance.
HP> Here is a bit of background on the situation...
HP> One afternoon while coding new features in the DREADLoC
HP>interface, I received a call from ShadowSorcerer asking if an
HP>article he wrote about the ANSI scene could be published in the
HP>next issue. Not really knowing who he was, I gave him the
HP>canned spiel about how any well-written article will be
HP>published. After speaking with him for a while, he told me that
HP>the article was originally intended for Corruption; however, the
HP>staff did considered him a "No Name" in the scene.
Well here's where second hand knowledge comes in. First off, I did not
call him a no name in the scene, he is not very well known yet, and I did
say that he wasn't as experienced. And I would have to see the article
first. Corruption is an informative magazine, but we do take opinionative
articles, but we do feel that an article about what the scene is all about
etc should be by someone who is involved in the scene. I did this to pre-
warn him in case his article was not used. I did not call him a "No Name".
Which later on he called me up on a conference, which was a perfect chance
to talk with me about it. I asked if I could read the article he previously
wanted to write for us. And he said he had given it to Dreadloc instead.
I said alright, and he never confronted me about his problems with us..
I have to find out about it in your magazine instead of a phone call from
him or you. So I will not do what he/you couldn't do for me. Instead I
am responding to your accusations which you have nothing to do with. I
DID offer to read the article and from what I read of it I would have
put it in.
HP> What kind of crap is this - a "No Name" in the scene? What
HP>exactly does it take to be a "Big Name" in the scene? Do you
HP>have to chronically release copied pictures of comic-book
HP>characters so that everyone kisses you ass? If someone draws
HP>ansi's (whether they are copied or not) and releases them in a
HP>group's pack, what else does it take to be a "Big Name" in the
HP>scene? If you are involved with what is going on and actively
HP>contributing to a group, as far as I am concerned then your
HP>opinion is just as valid as anyone else's.
Alright. So you're telling me that just ANYONE can write an article of
an overview of what the scene is like. And that nobody needs experience
in the scene to write a good article about what's going on etc? Where
are you getting this crap? Did I say he isn't cool enough because he
doesn't draw ansis? No I didn't. I said he was new to the scene and
I wanted to read the article before I promised I would put it in.
HP> What Corruption is saying with their actions is that they are
HP>so ego-centric that you have to pass their "K-Rad Kewlness" test
HP>to even be considered for publication; you have to be politically
HP>correct, kiss lots of ass, and be eternally grateful to the
HP>publishers of Corruption that they actually included your article
HP>in their release, "...Oh Corruption; let me stand in your the
HP>shadows of your sheer greatness and suck ass-hair..."
Shut the fuck up you dumbass. This all sounds to me like you're looking
for a way to get out your sexual frustrations. If you're going to attack
someone, attack someone who you fucking have a clue with what's going on.
HP> Guess what guys - It is *JUST* a magazine; nothing more,
HP>nothing less. Whoever releases it is doing it for one of two
HP>reasons:
HP>
HP> 1. It would be K-Rad to be a President of a group.
HP> 2. Because is a fun hobby.
HP>
HP> Neither of those reasons are of any importance; so, what is
HP>the major malfunction? I suppose that if Corruption was a major
HP>publication with an entire world for an audience (such as "Time"
HP>Magazine), then I could understand them being selective as to who
HP>they allow to write articles.
HP>
HP> The truth is that whoever publishes Corruption wants to be
HP>someone inportant in the "Scene"; however, has NO talent for
HP>drawing ANSI, writing Literature, etc. Therefore, he decides
HP>to kiss alot of artists' asses, get alot of "Big Names" in the
HP>magazine, and call himself "King of the Hill" for doing it.
There you go again, going off on people you don't know. I'm not saying
I'm a good ansi artist, far from it. But I DO draw ansi, although not
that good ansi. So you're contradicting yourself by saying that since
all four people who run the magazine are artists. We did not start the
magazine to get a "Big Name". We started it to inform the public and
have some fun.
HP> What a fucking lamer! I have news for the Corruption staff
HP>and publisher: Everyone in the "Elite" scene was once, and still
HP>may be, a local lamer; at one time, they probably didn't know any
HP>thing about computers, drawing ANSI's, or writing literature; and
HP>"...all men are created equal..." Furthermore, 90% of the "Big
HP>Name" comic-copiers that you desperately seek couldn't write a
HP>cohesive paragraph above the 6th grade level if their life
HP>depended on it. Then again, you DO have to publish articles on
HP>the reading level of your audience.
You're attacking a lot of people here? Why so hostile? Where do you
get this local lamer shit? You're going off on things that have nothing
to do with the subject. You were on the war path, and Corruption got in
your way. Don't attack things if you have no clue about them. Okay,
well I'll end it off my saying, you have no idea what you're talking
about, and you should not base your knowledge on someone else. If you
had a problem with us fine.. But I do not appreciate people attacking
us because they "heard" something bad about us. That alone says you've
got a fucking problem. Oh and by the way this by no means to start a war
between our magazines, but when I see something about me or my group(s)
I can't help but reply.
Kinayda [Gothic/Corruption]
On Behalf Of The Corruption Staff
"Additional Reply to HOOPTiE's Attack on Corruption : Cyber X"
Like Kinayda I was reading through DreadLoc and to my surprise I
found an article trashing Corruption. It seems that Kinayda has handled it
with his reply, but I just wanted to add one thing..
HP> The truth is that whoever pulishes Corruption wants to be someone
HP>important in the "Scene"; however, has NO talent for drawing ANSI, writing
HP>Literature, ect.
HP> I have news for Corruption staff and publisher: Everyone in the
HP>"elite" scene was once, and still may be, a local lamer; at one time, they
HP>probably didn't know any thing about computers, drawing ANSI's or writing
HP>literature..
Well this just shows how ignorant and fucking stupid you are. You
should realy research things before you trash them. Just to show you how
stupid you are here is a list of our current staff.

Creators of Intense Art
Prozac [CiA]
Creators of Intense Art
Creators of Intense Art is a relatively new group, formed a few months
ago. We don't stand for Creators of Ingenious Art, and we don't stand for
Creators of Intensive Art, it's Creators of Intense Art. We are mainly
based in the 908 area code, which is where the world headquarters is. In that
short time, we have accomplished many things. We have released two packs, and
plan on releasing them every month, at the end of each month.
Our most recent pack, released on November 30, received a lot of good
feedback and input. We also got much commendation for the great coding work
of G-Man, who did the impressive CiA Viewer with our own original Mod's. For
the first pak of any group it was very respectable. The pak for this month
is in the works, and it looks as if we can definitely "play with the big
boys" (sorry for that cheesy line). So look for it at a fine art board near
you.
The group was founded and is headed by Trident. Oedipus is at the
healm of the File division, (what! did he say file division!), yes file
division, which will be seen very shortly. Cannonball is the Courier
Coordinator, and Sudden Death (who was almost in ACiD) is the head of Ansi.
Our ansi staff is improving immensely, and is producing some top-notch work
thus far. Sudden Death easily draws with the best of them, and shows that he
very competent. Tron, who is our undisputed best "cartoon" artist, also does
some incredible work. Other members like Napalm, Jack Daniels, and of course,
me, ProZac, are also producing fine work.
The group will not be focusing on only ansi. We have and will
continue to produce VGA's as well as ansis. This is in part of the quality,
and interest shown by the artists in producing VGA's. We also will continue
to produce Mod's to entertain you while you check the ansis, and improve
our viewer for best viewing.
The future for CiA looks very good. With the potential of our
artists, we hope to show up around the top in the near future. Many apps
were sent in after we released our first pack, and they are continuing to
come in, so if you are interested in helping CiA in any way please contact
the following boards:
Board Name Number SysOp
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Muerte <WHQ> 908-647-1194 Trident
Unlimited Powers <Canadian HQ> 905-628-1709 Raider
Many other Art Boards...
Well, that's my article on CiA, and I hope you check out the paks
that have already been released. Later...

Ripping Rumors
iNCUBUS [iCE]
Rip?! ME?!
Alright, aparently there's been rumors going around that I've been
ripping ansi's, THIS article is to prove I didn't. The ansi that everyone
seems to be acusing me of ripping is the IN-GODF.ANS in the RIOT1293 pack. I'm
NOT going to go into some long cheasy note about the process of drawing that
ansi, but if I'm forced to, I will.
First off, I want to say that I DO NOT, AND HAVE *NEVER* RIPPED ANY
ANSI OF ANY ARTIST! I think it's really lame, and that the artist shouldn't
be releasing shit if he takes art from others. The Godfather's Den ansi was
my first ansi made out of my head (like not copying specific pictures off
comics and shit like that..). I took the idea of the bald guy from some old
Punisher War Journals I had laying around, but the rest was me. When Kinayda
told me that Cyber-X thought I ripped his ansi, I freaked. I checked out the
iCE pack, and I saw Cyber-X's Mafia HQ ansi. His ansi and mine DO look similar
(I personally think HIS looks better, that's another thing that suprised me
about the rip idea, if someone is gonna rip, at least make the ansi better!),
I gotta give him that, but I didn't rip it. I'm glad that Cyber-X didn't pull
a Shihear and start yelling all over the place that I ripped...that's cool,
because doing that shit is major lame.
Second, I guess due to the rumors going around about the Cyber-X
ansi, Kronos noticed some similarity in my Red Dawn 2 ansi to one of HIS
ansi's and JED's ansi. Again, this is bullshit. I could not find ANY Jed
ansis that looked anywhere like mine. And Kronos's ansi has the same position
but no where near to be a rip. Jim Davis draws many (or almost all..) his
positions for Garfield alike. Pull out a comic strip of Garfield, and I almost
GUARANTEE that you'll find a position like mine and Kronos's. Things have
basically been cleared up..but again, this article is to clear up any rumors
floating around...
I have a question: if someone draws a Goofy ansi, does that mean they
rip from the Joker? or G-Man? if someone draws a PITT ansi, does that mean
that they rip from all the artists who drew PITT? I'm scared to think what
would happen if I drew a SPAWN ansi...how many people would accuse me of
ripping then? geez, people take rumors way too seriously..
I dunno, it just really pissed me off that people were actually
accusing me of ripping other people's artwork. I DON'T do that shit,
and if you look at my other work, you will see I'm right. I'm considering not
even drawing unshaded ansis anymore because of this shit, and if I do, I'm
gonna SEARCH for ANY ansi that looks even remotely like mine. If you believe
me, cool, if not, then I don't know anything else I can say to change your
mind. Rumors are rumors, they're usually not true, just like this one isn't
true. Believe what you want to believe, but I'll keep on drawing and having
fun doing drawing...

HEAT's Demise
QuR'aN [HM]
The flames began to settle down, and retreated back into the
underworld. HEAT had arisen, and hopefully, it was there to prosper and
lead artists into the art side of modeming. HEAT was originally intended
as a 'stepping stone' for such artists as Magnus, Crazy Horse, and Fire,
the original members of HEAT, dating back to mid ninety-three.
The first pack was released around June of '93, only intended
to be a local art group at first, to accommodate the need for quality artists
that were there to deliver, free of charge. The world headquarters at that
time was a local board called 'Severed Illusions', the first board that
embraced HEAT with open ideas and arms. However, this board quickly
suffered the wrath of a virus, not to mention several personal problems
with the SysOp. The next place HEAT looked for was The Fringes, the infamous
Oblivion/2 World HeadQuarters. The Fringes was able to provide an environment
that was able to give HEAT national coverage. It was now mid-August, and
about time to release the 2nd HEAT pack. Spread rather quickly nationally,
HEAT was beginning to become a respectable group, with sites such as
Terminal Sabotage and Total Chaos, two very influential boards in the modem
world.
Most HEAT conversations were now taking place on a small local board,
called Legion of Doom. Ran by Azarius, this board's message bases were
always filled with questions on HEAT, applications, and new releases almost
daily. Because Legion of Doom had become such a home for most of the HEAT
members, the WHQ was once again changed to Legion of Doom, the board which
still holds the title of HEAT World HeadQuarters. Two months past, keeping
a steady member list and acquiring more and more distribution sites and
headquarters. Lacking in organization, HEAT was not able to receive the
publicity needed for beginning art groups. With the loss of the Fringes
as the world headquarters, HEAT began to slowly creep back into a mere
'local' group, once again. Through out this entire time, both Magnus,
Crazy Horse, and FiRE (our VGA artist) were improving tremendously over
a short period of time.
The time was now mid October, and it was time to release a third
pack. Due to the lack of organization, this pack was kept relatively local,
and got almost no national distribution due to a lack of quality couriers.
When QuR'aN (myself) received the third pack, I began to interest myself
in this group. I looked over the pack, only to find most of the ANSis to
be saved in no-line mode, without clearing the screen, and with lines at the
end of each ANSi composing the '100 line limit' in TheDraw. This plus
the DIZ which read, "HEATWave Pack #03 .. We're too lazy to make a real DIZ,
word up!" distracted me so much that I decided to take time out of my daily
schedule, and 'reconstruct' the pack. I created a new DIZ, and resaved each
ANSi in 69 line mode, Clearing the screen, and with the proper number of
lines. By doing this, it increased the tone of respect for HEAT. Luckily,
this updated HEAT pack, properly titled 'HEAT#03U' was released several days
after the official third release.
From this time until January of '94, the major changes in HEAT's
history occured; The WHQ, Legion of Doom, had received Oblivion/2, one
of the most amazing BBS softwares this decade has seen. To add to this,
Independence, a relatively small New Jersey group (201), had now
merged over half of the members into HEAT, giving us such artists as Boom-
Boom, Eclipse, and ToAd. Also during this time, Magnus produced an incredible
amount of artwork for QuR'aN's board, Harvest Moon, ranging from chat screens
to stats screens to menu sets. Magnus was also playing around with different
styles of art, all of which he seemed to learn with relative ease. Producing
his first toon ANSi for Paradise Lost (BartMan), the respect of his artwork
seemed to have risen to incredible stature. Also during this time HEAT
acquired subs on Shadow, Valiant, Fanatic, Impact, and Neo-Net. On top
of this, HEAT finally dropped it's high-ascii signature (HΣÆT), and made
it simply HEAT, due to a constant nagging on the part of QuR'aN.
The fourth HEAT pack was finally released by Magnus, Bishop, and
QuR'aN on Friday night, January 15th. Somewhat late (<grin>), the pack was
uploaded to Amber (914), and LUPUS spread it around within a time period of 12
hours, covering boards from California to New York to Michingan to Canada.
Thanks to BaZeRkA, a courier for FoST and ex-iCE courier, he was able
to distribute it through out most of Europe within two days. HEAT received
nothing but compliments, thanks to superb VGAs, RIPs, and ANSis from the
entire HEAT staff. The total number of works for the 4th and final HEAT
pack was estimated at 64 art pieces, an amazing high for a fourth pack
from a 'local' group..
With such groups as Gothic rising in the scene, Magnus, HEAT's star
artist, decided to go on with his Artistic career, and made the move to
Insane Creators Enterprise to share his talent and to receive advice from
the grand-masters of the art world. FiRE, our VGA and RIP artist is
'free-lancing' until he finds a group which suits him. Bishop, the other
senior staff member and founder of HEAT has since moved onto couriering,
helplessly roaming the lives of art group members all over the world..
As for myself, well, here I am, writing an article about the life and death
of my child, remolded from almost scratch, scorched by unorganization
and the constant changes envolved with the scene. HEAT is at the moment still
disassembling, and in the process of notifying our sites that we are no more.
And so is the demise of a dream created by Magnus and Bishop. The
flames rise again, only this time, it will not produce a dream, but rather
destroy one.. For now, the flames are slowly engulfing this art group, bringing
it back into "art-group-hell", forever..

CRITIC Ansi Reviews
Kronos [ACiD/CORRUPTION]
CRITIC Ansi Reviews
CRITIC: 1. One whom forms and/or expresses opinions, especially
concerning literary and art works.
2. One who finds faults.
Critic is by no means a new idea to the scene. As many of you
know we review ansis from the various packs that the multitude of
art/ansi groups release each month.
Critic started from an idea I had several month ago, after
reading Paradigm and Iridium. I looked at those reviews, and they
looked biased beyond belief, especially Iridium. Some of the
people reviewing just seemed like they didn't know what they were
doing. I also thought that other groups should have the
opportunity to be reviewed other than ACiD, iCE and TRiBE.
Finally, after getting a job that I only had to work on the
weekends, I now had the time to get it going. I called Quasar,
someone I know in the scene for a long time, and we discussed
Critic. Between the two of us, we came up with what you see in
Critic now. Critic is not a magazine, which is a common
misconception about it. Many people who think it's a magazine find
it lacking, take a second look at it as an ansi review "pack", and
then form an opinion.
Most of you by now have seen Critic #1, and yes #2 never came
out. Most people don't realize what happened. Master Com, our
former coder, bailed out on us. Without as much as a phone call,
or a letter on his bbs; he ignored me, and never coded Critic #2.
The reviews, ansis and everything else were already completed for
Critic #2, but Mcom just screwed us over. Anyway, we're working on
choosing a new coder, and after that we should be releasing Critic
#2 and #3 together, so look forward to seeing a Critic multi pack!
Unlike others, the thing that differentiates us from our
predecessors is the way we review and what we actually review.
Nearly every major pack is reviewed each month... err, that is
every pack that has any shred of decency to it. Magazines that
have reviewed, or groups that have reviewed, it always seemed that
they just reviewed ACiD/iCE/whatever 3rd group was out there.
Another uniqueness that we offer to the people reading CRITIC is
the way we review. Artists can actually see where their work is
lacking, and where they are excelling. We grade on Font, Shading,
Technique and then give it an overall rating. Many people have
asked "why don't you add a comment to each ansi"? Well, heres the
answer: The comments are usually stupid, and useless to the
artist. They are also extremely time consuming. Since we usually
review anywhere from 175-300 ansis a month, the amount of time it
would take to write a comment is just too much to spend on ansi
reviews. After all is said and done, we cut out the bullshit, and
give you the most complete guide to ansi reviews ever produced.
As of now, Critic only reviews ansis. We only review ansis
because that's where our main interest lays. We could review Rip,
and Vga and everything else, and maybe in the future we will, but
for now it's strictly ansi. In issue #2, Critic was supposed to
have several things added to it. A Hall Of Fame was the biggest
update. The Hall Of Fame is a listing of (in our opinions) some of
the greatest ansi artists to ever have been in the scene. We also
have the voting results, and some other miscellaneous shit.
Well, thats Critic in a nutshell, if you want to read more
about it, then pick up the CRITIC multi pack, and enjoy.
Kronos <ACiD/CORRUPTION>
Greets n' Shit:
Quasar: Well, here comes another 300 ansis to review... ugh:(
Metal Head: Hehe, yes you need to use the up and down arrow keys!
Corwin: So, where are those 5 megs of wares a day?:)
Bane: Sexualities! They DO SO exist!!
Musicphreak: 950?!?! We don't need no stinking 950s:)
Maestro: Love the logos, I'll love a CP ansi even more:)
Shihear Kallizad: Tough shit, you're getting reviewed until we get
bored of reviewing you, or at least until you
learn how to ask nicely.
Raistlin: Next time, I come to N.J. to hang you by your nuts.
All Art Groups: Heres to reviewing!
AT&T: Forgive them lord, they know not what they do.

NorthStarCS - TNCS
DarkSider [UC/iCE/TNCS/PW/TERRA/DW]
NorthStarCS ∙ TNCS ∙ The NorthStar Coding Syndicate
A DarkSider Documentary
It was an especially boring winter season of local b/s in the
Southern California scene in December of 1991, and I had just joined the ranks
of iCE as a VGA Artist. Previously I was in GRiM, once a famous VGA/Coding
group from the West Coast. Anyhow, I dabbled in ANSI here and there, and came
up with what I thought was a good ANSI. Well, good is a relative term, and
although iCE ANSI's weren't the quality they are now, I didn't feel like
releasing it under the iCE label. Hence the idea of forming my own group,
CRiME. Hell if I even remember what the acronym stood for, but it was a group
none-the-less. I started putting it in tag-lines, etc, thinking I was hot
shit, when I started calling up Eerie Smith's board in Florida. Well, he
asked me what the group was about, and I made up some bullshit, making the
group seem better than it really was. Soon enough, we had talked for several
hours, and he asked about having an Eastern HQ... Well, sure. Why not? Now
all I had to do was get a group together.
Well, I searched the local scene... put up a few ads... "Coders and
Artists wanted!" Well, what I got was Pharcyde on ANSI, and The Cardinal who
worked in PASCAL. We picked up a few stragglers here and there, and we had
a good member list. Maybe three or four ANSI's had come out, we decided that
we had to redirect our outlooks, and reshape the group. At least I did, I
never bothered to ask the members <grin>.
Looking for a name that didn't sound like some incredibly shitty
couriering group didn't take long. I can't remember where I came up with
TNCS, but it stuck. Of course most people called it TCSN, or TCNS for the
longest time, not knowing what it even meant. We were confused with TCSnet,
etc... But we liked the name. (Since then, someone inadvertantly has decided
to use CRiME as another group name.) We started cranking out some ANSI's,
and The Cardinal and I tried working out various text <gasp> F/X. Well, we
came out with some ANSI/SB loaders, which provide a few good laughs now, but
which weren't half bad back then. More people joined.
Now its a few months into 1992, and Pharcyde getting into his prime.
People *LOVE* his ANSI's, and he cranks them out without rest. More members
join, and we have 40+ members, and 30 distribution sites. This of course, is
when the group, not unlike all groups, started screwing up. Members joined
and didn't do anything, or mysteriously disappeared from the scene. And once
again, it was Pharcyde, The Cardinal, and myself. Then ZoSo came in.
The Cardinal and I were working on VGA, not really releasing anything,
but basically having a personal war in which we would attempt to out-do each
other with new F/X. Pharcyde is still cranking out the ANSI's, we pretty much
have good group recognition, and I don't even bother keeping track of members
and sites. One day, ZoSo shows up at my board... Applies for access, gets on,
and offers to make .MOD's if I need them. Not that he wanted to be in TNCS
(if he even knew it existed), it was just that he liked writing music, and he
asked if I just happened to need any. Well, we signed him on, and he has
since written more than ten 4 and 8 channel ProTracker Modules.
We had since added Avatar on for P/R and site management, we had
AfterShock couriering (he now runs the courier group, Spectrum), and we had
another coder who actually coded <wow> named Shadow Demon. Sites and members
were every where, and it was now late in '92. I decided we needed another
change. Pharcyde was sick of ANSI's, he wanted to do VGA, and he did it well.
The Cardinal moved to Assembler, and started working on the Visions Demo.
ZoSo maintained his status as the best composer we had heard to date. Well,
I dumped all the sites, and all the members, except the valiant few who had
always been there.
That was a few months ago... The Visions Demo is sitting on The
Cardinal's hard disk. Pharcyde still does VGA and ANSI, but is trying to
organize his career. ZoSo still writes music, but not in the volume he once
did. And I, I haven't had the time to run the group in the manner I used to,
calling here and there to get the representation we need. I still do code
however, and here and there you see releases from me. Not always under TNCS,
or for TNCS, but here and there. The Cardinal did an intro to keep us in the
public's eye recently, but the music system failed, so it hasn't hit the
shelves yet. He has his hands full porting RISK over to the PC from the
Macintosh <damn-user-friendly-peice-of>. Are we dead? Not by far, but we have
other things on our mind. And we'll always be here. Well, at least until The
Cardinal and I finish High School this year. Anyhow, the codeine is running
thin, and Kinayda really wants this piece, so I leave you with the thoughts
I have put before you. As always... Carpe Diem. <Sieze the day>
- DarkSider [UC/iCE]
[TNCS/PW/TERRA/DW]
Oh yeah... Did I tell you? We have a new composer, Basehead. If you
have access to TNCS releases, get his new .MOD ... it's 291k ... ZIPPED. And
its an incredible piece (hell, it might even be in this mag somewhere...)
We also have our new courier, The Refugee, in case we actually get Visions
out there... We're looking forward to an incredible year from this new
composer, and from all the other members... Have a great '94.

HEMP has Merged into TRSI/FAITH.
Sinister Outlaw [TRSI/SCUM/CORRUPTION]
HEMP has Merged into TRSI/FAITH
For a number of reasons I don't wish to go into great detail about the merge,
but instead I will just go over the main points. Basically, Cyber Angel got
into contact with Slayer (who now has quit the scene) and they agreed that the
productive members of HEMP would join into TRSI/FAITH. Slayer, Mad Vandal, our
suppliers and myself all joined TRSI and Mad Vandal's board became a TRSI affil.
board. Although the couriers HEMP had served us fairly well, we decided that
they were not a neccessity and TRSI already had a great courier team so we did
not merge the couriers in. That's about it, also Slayer quit the scene like I
said before, if you are interested in that go and read the text file he released
on that subject. If you have any questions/comments/concerns or anything please
send me private e-mail on one of the systems I call.

Applying/Joining Corruption
Cyber X [GOTHIC/CORRUPTION]
How to Become a Member of Corruption,
or to Obtain a Distribution Site...
By Cyber X
Corruption is always on the lookout for quality members that are
willing to contribute to the magazine. We are mostly looking for artists,
writers, couriers, and experienced programmers.
Requirements ·
· Artist · Corruption is looking for both Vga and Ansi artist. We
require that you summit at least one peice of art an issue. If you would
like to summit art, but not on the deadline, then you will also be included
on the memberlisting as a contributor. We request Ansi interfaces, ansi
opening and closing screens, Vga opening and closeing screens, and both
Vga and Ansi logo's.
· Writers · Our articles are more limited to the art, demo, and elite
scenes. We prefer that the writers take part in the scene, and that they
are aware of the current events. Anyone is free to summit an article, but
there is no promise that the article will be included in the magazine. At
the time we are looking for wares reviews and groups articles, i.e. art
groups, demo groups, cracking groups, other magazines, couriers, lit groups,
etc.. If you would like to write for us then please contact our HQ's.
[Programmer's Note : Articles are preferred to be under 250 lines if at all
possible. It helps me keep the magazine's code optimized better if I know for
sure that all articles are under 250 lines. If this is a serious problem I
will make a way around it, but for now I think that's a reasonable limit]
· Couriers · The only requirements are to courier to at least three boards.
We are also looking for any courier that would be able to courier to Germany
and pick up files. We would be willing to trade a dist site for anyone that
could do this for us. We are also in dire need of conferences and we will
also trade a distribution sites for an arranged number of conferences.
· Programers · We are constantly looking for new experinced programers.
Serious inquiries only!! We are looking for someone that would be willing
to program the entire magazine. We would not require that every issue be
programed by one programer, we are rotating programers, i.e., Issue #1
programed by Eternal Lie, Issue #2 by Sinister Outlaw, Issue #3 by Sinister
Outlaw again, Issue #4 by ?????, #5, by ????, #6 Sinister Outlaw, ect..
If you are interested please contact our HQ's...
· Distribution Sites · Corruption is very strict on the distribution sites.
we do not give any sites away for free. We charge for our sites, $20 every
three months, we sometimes accept trade, such as a large quantity of artwork,
articles, programming, and possibly a few other circumstances will be
accepted. After this issue the distribution listing will be modified.
We will add Member boards, and we will be cutting down on the number of
distribution sites. All the money is used towards the magazine.
To become a member or distribution site please contact one of the following
boards.
■ Evolution's End · 919-929-7970
■ Total Chaos · 203-354-8095
[Editors Note : The program CORRAPP.EXE has been included in this archive
(assuming this is the original archive). It will help automate the process
of applying to Corruption.]

Quicky Warez Reviews
Klavikus
[ CORRUPTiON Magazine Issue #2 ]
[ WaReZ ReViEw By: Klavikus ]
Welcome to the first Klav!Reviews, I must say it took a long time to sort
out all the REAL releases from the FAKES, RE-RELEASES, BETAS, and such.
The month of Janurary and early Fubruary was slow, but there were a few games
which are worth the time and effort to play. Now take a look at what the BBS
world has to offer!
[ NOTE! This information was compiled from several sources, ANY errors or ]
[ injustices are purely unintentional. ]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Reviews - The Reviews - The Reviews - The Reviews - The Reviews - The Rev
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unneccessary Roughness - (C) Accolade 01/04
Cracked by PENTAGRAM, this SVGA football simulation is one of the best
football games released. Three-Demensional screens, nice animation, and
realistic sounds make this game a definite eye opener.
Disciplines Of Steel - (C) 01/06
Cracked by UNiTY, I didn't play this game too long. It is another role
playing game. The plot could use some work, and the graphics could be
a little better. Not worth downloading LD.
Sim City 2000 - (C) Maxis 01/06
Cracked by RAZOR, Docs would be a big help when playing this game. If
you liked Sim City you'll love this game. Your empire begins in the year
2000, the graphics and sound are very decent.
Time Runners 8 - (C) Simulmondo 01/08
Cracked by RAZOR, This is the 8th sequel of a kind of mundane game. I
really think this series should die. But hey, it's another release.
Alone In The Dark ][ - (C) 01/14
Cracked by NEXUS, Much like the first game, this vector graphic game
stays on the horror, role playing catagory. The full english version
following the French and Update version was released by a small British
group, on the 14th. The Humble Guys RE-RELEASED it on the 15th.
NFL 1994 - (C) Konami 01/16
Cracked by NEXUS, Another nice football simulator, it's not as good as
Unnec. Roughness but if you really enjoy football, this game is in the
top 5 of its class.
Death Tower - (C) C.E.C. 01/17
Cracked by AVENGERS, Death Tower is a 3D maze type game, similar to Prince
of Persia. A good game for the mentally challenged, considering my 5 year
old sister could beat this game.
TKO Professional Boxing v3.2 - (C) Lance Haffner Games 01/17
Cracked by SKID ROW, Another game in which unless you are REALLY into
the type, and even if you are, this game is barly worth downloading.
Buying this game is a definite sin.
Archon Ultra - (C) SSi 01/19
Cracked by RAZOR, If you would like to play chess but have the strategic
abilites of Nepolion, you'll love this game. Set up on a chess board,
the pieces fight for the position. Not like Battle Chess, the attacking
piece doesn't always win.
Pinball Fantasies - (C) Team 17 01/19
Cracked by NEXUS, It's not EPIC but the sound track deserves some recog-
onition. There are only two tables. If your computer doesn't lock up
normally, it will when you play this game. TOO MANY bugs.
[Editors Note : There are in fact four tables for this game and I've also played
the game for hours and hours with very few problems.]
Pursue the Pennant PC Baseball 5.0 - (C) Tippet Software 01/21
Cracked by SKID ROW, this game SUCKED! That's about all there is to it
not worth the 3.1c for a local call.
CyberGenic Ranger - Secret of the 7th Plantet - (C) Symtus 01/22
Cracked by UNITY, I really enjoyed this game. It's an arcade type game
with great graphics and sound. Not like anything you've played before.
M-Chess Professional v3.5 - (C) 01/24
Cracked by RAZOR, The 3rd chess game in the last two months. If the game
doesn't change, I say just get Chess Master 4000. Chess players, and
members of the High School Chess Team, check it out.
Russian Six Pack - (C) Interplay 01/25
Cracked by NEXUS, If your not a tree slug with an IQ <50 you should find
this game very interesting. A bunch of Russian puzzles that will keep you
busy for some time.
Artic Baron - (C) 01/25
Cracked by NEXUS (Kind of), Much like the Sierra game, this is a train
related game. If you have LEECH Access and LOVE to LEECH, have fun.
Another game to type up that empty space on your HD.
Electro Man - (C) Epic Software 01/25
Cracked by INC, Decent sound quality, graphics could use some work, it's
a RE-make of the old Electro Man. Had a fifteen minute life on my computer
Dimo's Quest - (C) Boeder 01/26
Cracked by TRSi, Alright now where getting carried away. In this game
you are a .... FROG.... A nice childrens game.
Steg The Slug - (C) Codemasters 01/28
Cracked by TRSi, Like the 7th Guest, this game comines arcade and trivial.
Unlike 7th Guest the graphics, sound and coding sucked.
Fatman - (C) IO Product 01/29
Cracked by TRSI, A very arcadish game. Loved the graphics almost as much
as the sound. It's a worth while game. NOTE: Real Release was the 29th
not the 19th. TRSi Error in .NFO file.
Bomb'X - (C) Mediagogo 01/29
Cracked by NEXUS, Sorry folks couldn't get it to work on my computer. Word
has it that its alright.
Strat-O-Magic Basketball - (C) Strat-O-Magic <-- (Interesting) 01/29
Cracked by SKID ROW, Baskeball fans, don't get your hopes up. This game
rankes up there with the text game Hitchhiker's Guide the The Galaxy.
Johnny Quest : Curse of The Mayan Warriors - (C) Hanna Barbera 01/31
Cracked by KLAVIKUS!, Grab my patch, or edit the INSTALL.DAT file.
This game took 15 seconds to crack, and 15 more to realize it wasn't worth
the first 15. Congradulations to Hanna Barbera for winning the lamest
game of the month award!
Street Fighter ][ Hyber Fighting - (C) Capcom 02/01
Cracked by The Wiz Kid, This game was re-writen by Jung Young Dug, A
decent SF2 game. The final version of SF2, the game looks identical to
the arcade version. Only exception being the odd charecter.
Jeopardy: Sports Edition - (C) Gametek 02/09
Cracked by NEXUS, Looks like the previous version of Jeopardy except for
diffent charecters and the sports questions. Very difficult questions.
Romance of the Three Kindoms - (C) KOEI 02/09
Cracked by RAZOR, Much like the other versions of this game, This is the
final version released by RAZOR. ROTTK' is a Strategic like game that
will challenge your mind.
Sango Fighter - (C) Panda Entertainment 02/10
Cracked by HYRBID, Another Steet Fighter ][ type game, although this game
comes no where near ST][ or Mortal Kombat. This was the final ENGLISH
version.
GENESIA - (C) Microids 02/10
Cracked by RAZOR, Awesome graphics, sound and animations. Populous lovers,
this game is for you! Has a little bit of Castles story line.

Sick and Tired of B.S.
Golgotha [GOTHIC]
Sick and Tired Of Bullshit.
by: Golgotha [Gothic]
Sitting here I am now contemplating various assorted Articles written
by TRiBE members. They enrage me. Many of these articles have a 'Holier than
thou' attitude. I have a couple of points in response to these excuses for
opinions.
It is too often that our ears echo of the whining and complaning of
brainwashed TRiBE members. Shihear himself often complains that TRiBE is
looking for no attention and wishes to be ommited from various magazines such
as this one yet we constantly look in every magazine to find the eyesore of
another TRiBE article.
Often we hear their petty criticisms of the 'LARGER' groups "looking
for publicity". Somebody stop me if I'm wrong but is not one of the purposes
of an ANSi/VGA group to advertise? The greater the audience the greater the
result. When a SysOp wants a peice of artwork he or she assumes it will be in
a pack. This pack will travel much further than the ANSi itself thus creating
a demand for art from the group. Now if a group is trying to avoid publicity
and widespreading their artwork, how effective is their adevertising.
All I'm saying is that if TRiBE really wants magazines to stop giving
them coverage I think that they should stop writing these damn articles.
As for my opinion of TRiBE as a group... I think that the group has
some of the best and worst policies around. Often the mock other groups for
having too many non-artists in the group. I personally feel that that IS an
important part of any group. The Couriers, Staff, Telecom Guys and other misc.
help often make life alot easier for the artists. What artist wants to sit up
the O'Clock in the fucking morning uploading artwork to a board?
I've been aquainted with Shihear before (On Might & Magic) and acually
despite my opinions here I like the guy a helluva lot. He took me through a
very trying time when I was torn between groups. He often can seperate himself
from his bias's. I wish all the best to TRiBE in the future.

No I'm Not The No Carrier ...
No Carrier [UNiON Trial]
"No I'm Not The No Carrier From ###"
Aliases. There are so many possible ones, yet there always ends up to
be at least a few people who use the same one as you. Take my handle for
instance, No Carrier, not exactly the hardest in the world to think up,
any moron with a modem can think it up. Alias conflicts aren't a problem,
until you enter the international art scene, it is then when having a
common alias becomes a problem.
Locally well, it wasn't that bad, I stuck mostly with the IBM art scene,
and only recently found out there was a No Carrier on the Atari ][ scene
and another on the Amiga scene. We rarely ran into contact with each other.
Unfortunately, now that I've joined a group that gets international
distribution, I've run into some problems.
There's a No Carrier in the 609 area code. He ran a group called License
to Design, ran into conflict with Shihear Kalizaad because of License to Draw,
the group is currently called MALiCE I believe (which also happens to be the
name of a wares couriering group). That guy is not I.
I have run into blacklist problems because of him, the guy has created a
bad reputation for himself by ripping ansis by Cool T, FusioN and most likely,
others. I find it kind of ironic that people could mistake me for him, since
ripping is something I cannot abide. Hell, my primary conflict with Night
Shade was because he ripped (see my article on him).
Neither am I No Carrier from 405, SysOp of Private Sector, nor No Carrier
of +44, or the No Carrier in 404.
I am No Carrier, from the 613 area code, Ottawa, Canada. I am currently
a trial ansi artist for UNiON (not to be confused with UNiSON, or UNiTY). I
am loosely associated with a few other groups, but I usually list UNiON, and
only UNiON in my signature because it's the only group I constantly do ansis
for, and I hate long sigs. I also run a board, called Programmed Illusion,
all long distance callers welcome.
So before you start attacking me, flaming me, or sending me money
(weeelll... you can always do that), make sure it's the right NC your talking
too.
No Carrier [UNiON Trial]
[Editors Note : No offense to this guy, but maybe it's time to find a new alias.
I sympathize with the problems he has, but it's silly to stick to a alias that
is used by at least a hundred other people.]

Night Shade
No Carrier [UNiON Trial]
"Night Shade: By No Carrier"
Well, you've probably never heard of me before, but I'm here to tell a
little tale, a tale of a lamer who became elite. It all started in my local
area code (613) in August of '93. That's when I became associated with a guy
called SubZero. I ended up being in an art group with him (don't ask about it;
It was yet another lame local group that died without releasing). I was quite
pleased with being in it, due to the high quality of music we had, namely
Stellar Bard (who was in Nemesis at the time) and SubZero.
I had gotten three mods off of SubZero, one of them was an amazing techno
track, called Hypnautic-ii. I (and most people who have heard it) rated as
one of the better mods around. There was only one problem, it sounded a
little too familiar. The clincher came when I was talking to SubZero on the
phone, and he began playing me a mod he had been working on, called "Techno
Wars". I already had that mod for quite a while. It was by some guy in
Finland, and I had gotten it off of an old music files CD-ROM. I waited until
after I had finished talking to SZ before I called the other members of my
group. We had all had suspicions about him, it turned out Hypnautic-ii was
from an old TDT loader called "Digital Dream", and that had been ripped from
an amiga guy, Zyx of the Extensors.
So we kicked SZ out of the group, but because we still were on friendly
terms with him, we decided not to mention to anyone why we had kicked him out.
A few weeks later I got tired of reading SZ's incomprehensible messages,
listening to him brag about his "Blue Lightning 77 mhz" and how his new board,
when it went up, was going to be a Future Crew and Renaissance dist site
(just two weeks before, he had asked me to be cosysop #234123412352345345432
for when it would finally go up), so I finally released some of the mods he
had stolen along with the originals. He was flamed off of all of the local
boards.
A few weeks later a mutual friend got me talking to SZ again. During the
interim I must have had a memory lapse, because I sort of felt sorry for the
guy and felt bad about how I had acted towards him. He and I declared a cease
fire and sorta became friends (although I found his constant exaggeration
annoying).
At this point your wondering why any of you would care, well, SubZero
started calling up boards again, only, this time, under a different alias,
that of Night Shade. He told me not to tell anyone, because, well, basically,
he would be kicked off if anyone knew his past. I thought the guy had changed,
so I didn't say a word.
On some local boards Night Shade had started to get flamed, he had never
quite learned the art of punctuation. To this day I believe his messages are
the most illegible I have ever read. Some people began to ask if he was
SubZero. He denied it. After a while I began to get annoyed at his continual
lying, as I said before, I thought he had changed. The last straw was when a
friend of mine, who was the CoSysOp on Chemical Warzone, called me up and told
me NS had been applying using me as a ref. Subsequent times after that NS
tried to get on by pretending he was from another area code.
So I spilled the beans on him, although most people had decided for
themselves that whether or not Night Shade was SubZero didn't matter, that he
was a lamer. Night Shade disappeared for a bit again, I thought (hoped) he
was gone for good.
But alas, it was not so. He came back again, this time claiming to be in
iCE. Of course, no one believed him, as I didn't, until one night I ended up
talking to him and Amroth. Unbelievably, Night Shade was in iCE for his
musical skills. He returned to the scene with his iCE membership and opened
a board. A pretty damned lame one too. The users there had a habit of voting
yes on every lamer who applied, just because we didn't like Night Shade. He
used to advertise his board as having a 16.8 dual, even though no one could
connect higher then 14.4 v32b. Night Shade proceeded to get a few nets, and
became the man of many affiliations. I still remember when he claimed to be
a TRiBE distribution site for about two weeks, then someone informed him that
TRiBE didn't use sites.
Around the middle of November '93, Night Shade's board went down, his line
disconnected. Rumour had it he was backbilled $1200. He claimed that it was
just because he was getting a second line installed for a second node. He
also claimed that he would be going back up with a couple of gigs and 6
nodes.
I still laugh at his "700 meg hard drive", when almost every file on his
board was offline. His board has yet to go back up. Night Shade went on to
become the god-like couriering man, RiSC member, Pentagram member, you name
it. He's still the lamest morons I know, and one of the most hated users in
613.
He spends his time talking to C.C. Catch and Purple Motion these days, he
claims they like his music and think it is awesome. He has yet to release any
music other than the stuff he stole in back in August '93.
Night Shade still can't type a legible message; here's a quote from one
person who's read his messages: "Its like reading a pgp encrypted file after
a few pints of beer". We've often had jokes about how long it would take a
Cray 3 to unencrypt one of Night Shade's messages.
I've learned something from Night Shade. All you have to do to become
elite is to call long distance, and lie to get onto boards. Being cool has
nothing to do with it. He greatly changed my perspective on elitism, how
all in all, it really means nothing.
I expect he's going to deny all of this, or at least attempt to. Most
likely he's going to make a few more death threats towards me and talk about
how my board "is so dead, he's just going to wake up without a hard drive".
Night Shade, feel free to prove me wrong in any of these points. I'd love
for Hard Core to get in contact with me, and tell me how what you said is
true, that he did steal Hypnautic-ii from you.

[Editors Note : There is an extremly funny VOC file floating around about
Night Shade. It's probably difficult to locate, but if you see it, grab it
for a good laugh.]

Pursuit : The Beginning
The Carnage [Pursuit Graphics]
"Pursuit: The Beginning"
02-11-94
Another article, eh? Okay, well here it goes. Prepare to be bored.
I started making ansi's almost 3 years ago. I was in a little ansi group
that I started, and... well, it sucked. But then, G. Washington, who was a
sysop on my board became an awesome artist, and I had people from all over the
country calling me to get in touch with him. Well, over time, after a lot
of practice, and pointers from all the "cool" artists, I became semi-good. I
was asked to join FLT-Air, (anyone remember that?). They died, and I started
yet another group called Ansi UnderGround. Well, it was about this time that
Kaska and G. Washington decided they were going to bring back Mirage. They
needed a starting ansi base, and, well, they absorbed my group AUG. I mean,
AUG wasn't just totally local artists. We had people like Terminator2,
CyberHack and Cyber X in it. But we were small, and Mirage wanted us, so
what the hell. Well, as you know, Mirage didn't produce after G.W. went to
boot camp, and Kaska disappeared (not that it's a habit or anything), and in
January Mirage dissolved. I wasn't around at the time. I hadn't been
producing for the last couple of months, because of lack of time, etc. But
when I came back and saw that Mirage was gone, and the artists went to groups
that they said that they would never join, (not to mention any names
EHEMRENHEM), I said, "Now what the fuck do I do?" I thought about applying
to Ice or Acid, or Tribe, but after taking a year to fill out the application
generator that asked me everything from my hair color to my mom's maiden name,
I lost interest. I decided that I've ran groups before, and I could do it
again. So after taking a while to come up with a name, I started Pursuit.
Pursuit is based here in So. California, and is currently very small.
However, ask me to write an article next month, and it will be very
different. The membership list is becoming bigger every day, as does the
group's name. As for the near future, we will have our first pack released in
March. As for the far future, all I can say is who the hell really knows? I
plan to keep the group from being absorbed into Ice or Acid as what happens to
just about every other group in the world, but I will leave that up to the
artists to decide. I'm not going to give any bullshit either about how all
artists in the group are equal, and everyone has an equal say, because that's
not how life works. i.e. Specter and the "planned" Tribe. The senior artists
run the group, and that's the way it works. It works for Ice and Acid, so it
can't be all that bad, can it? :)
Since this is just an introductory article, it doesn't mean much.
Seeing is believing, so you'll have to see Pursuit for itself when March rolls
along. But we are here, and getting stronger all the time. We won't ever be
on the lines of Acid or Ice, because as soon as we get up there, I guarantee
there'll be sine kind of a merger. That's just the way it works. But we'll
do our best to beat the hell out of the other groups. If you're interested in
joining, give the WHQ, Distorted Reality in 805, a call.

Corruption Elite News
Sinister Outlaw
Few quick things about the elite section of this magazine :
-- We are looking for articles about the elite scene. Articles can cover any
topic and be written by anyone as long as it's well-written and responsible.
Responsible meaning, it does not spread rumors, lies or rag on people at a
personal level. Criticism's are acceptable, but they must have facts behind
it and not incredibly biased.
-- A few of the articles are a little outdated, as well as group information may
be outdated for this issue. If you have an specific questions, contact the
author of the article and to find more accurate member listings look in recent
nfo files or contact the group in question.
-- Myself, Sinister Outlaw, am no longer affiliated with TRSI/FAITH, I have
decided to focus my attention and my resources to a small but rising group
called SCUM. For more information on that group, read the interview with the
Liquidater.
That's about it, enjoy the mag. Any questions or comments about any of this
should be sent in private e-mail to me on any board I frequent. Later.

Liquidater Interview
Sinister Outlaw [TRSI/SCUM]
Interview with The Liquidater : Sysop of Trader's Outpost
Founder/President of SCUM
Member of TRSI/FAITH
Key : SO = Sinister Outlaw; LQ = Liquidater;
SO : What was the main reason you decided to create SCUM ?
LQ : I realized that myself and my friends share access to large amounts of
shareware, and wanted to organize to share the warez with the rest of the
scene.
SO : Would you have been able to accomplish that by joining another group, or
did it seem necessary to start a brand new group ?
LQ : Well we may have been able to blend with another group but then we would
have to play by there rules. It seemed we had enough people to form and run
a new group successfully.
SO : Who are the main organizers of SCUM right now, besides yourself ?
LQ : Well Deadly User from the dallas area acts as my co-leader and has supplied
(or played a role in supplying) most of our releases, Cyber Angel and
daviolator both of TRSI, have played a large role in bringing in new
members and sites to the group.
SO : Most people would probably agree that SCUM's best release was ID's Doom.
Should we excpect to see more releases like that in the future ? Or do you
think SCUM for the most part will stay away from games and release more on
the utility side like the way it seems to be now ?
LQ : It's true DOOM was our most popular release, but entertainment software
does seem to get more attention in the scene then anything else, but
basically SCUM has turned into a Utils group as thats where our sources
can supply the best.
SO : In general, how do you see the future of SCUM ? Do you see it becoming a
major player in the scene or rather do you see it staying relatively small,
but still consistant with releases ?
LQ : Actually I feel that games groups will always be the POWERS of the scene,
and I would be very happy if SCUM would stay consistant with good Util
releases. However, SCUM has been growing and it is possible to become a
power in the util end if there is one <slight laugh>. We just opened talks
to get some Euro sites for SCUM, so it is on a growth pattern and getting
stronger.
SO : If anyone reading Corruption right now is interested in joining SCUM or
becoming a site, what should they do ? What positions are needed to be
filled at this moment ?
LQ : Well to join scum you must be a supplying member, all members do it, that
is the first and major requirement, to actually contact us, you would
simply get access to any SCUM site and speak with the sysop. The word will
get to me from there. As far as positions available go, we have no big gaps
as we have amassed a strong force of boards, suppliers and we use a courier
team to move our warez, so we do not accept couriers as members unless they
can also supply.
SO : Too bad there aren't many supplying couriers out there anymore.
<slight laughter>
Anyway, before I get off the topic of SCUM, what exactly does the name
stand for or mean ? I've heard that question a couple of times now.
LQ : <laughing> Yeah, that comes up alot, orginally the letters did have a
meaning, representing the orginal members but as the group has grown and
matured the meaning has been dropped and now we just answer that question
with - It's a frame of mind. <laughter>
SO : Who got you started into the BBS scene ?
LQ : Wow, that goes way back to my PD/Shareware days, I've been running one
board or another since 2400 was a new high speed. I can't really think of
any one person that got me started, I guess it was just a hunger for more
programs to make the computer do more. I moved into the SCENE only about 4
years ago after meeting Deadly User and getting my first HST modem (used
to be the key to getting in) and started to collect so much software that
a board was needed to share the collection else I would spend days doing
disk copys for friends. It just developed from there.
SO : Do you have any plans for the future of your board ? 900 numbers in the
future ?
LQ : No, I have never been one to charge for access, the 800 number should show
that. I may expand the number on nodes as my current three nodes is just
not enough to handle the current flow, I have maybe 210 users with 170 of
them being LD callers, and most (try to) call daily so more lines are
definately need more lines soon, plus I need to upgrade to the new USR
31.6's when released.
SO : What do you do to keep yourself busy besides running the board ?
LQ : Well I work full time and and run a small family so the board and SCUM fill
all my extra time (which can seem to be very little at times). My kids keep
me busy alot.
SO : What group do you think is leading the scene right now ?
LQ : Welp in the last month its been TRSI hands down for games and SCUM for
utils. <laughter>
SO : Where do you see the scene moving to in the near future ?
LQ : Umm ... Well I actually feel (hope) that with the introduction of the newer
faster modems that the "scene" will be cleaned up somewhat, with v32bis
being so cheap the scene has been infested with alot of users who have no
notion of the days when HST ruled. I guess I'm flashing back to when it
took more of an investment to get in. Nowadays the $80 v32bis has the door
open for just about anyone to get in and fill up the good boards with users
that just don't understand the giving side of the game we all play.
Hopefully the 28.8s and 31.6s will take over leaving them far behind in the
7-31 day boards where they belong. (that attitude will not make many
friends)
SO : Is there any one group or one person you would really like to see fall
right off the face of the earth right now (in or out of BBSing) ?
LQ : Does my ex-wife count ? Hmm .. Not really I don't hold grudges and have
learned to live in this world with just about everyone. Next question.
SO : That's about it ... Except, What's your favorite disk mag for the PC ?
(*cough*corruption*cough*)
LQ : <laughter> To be honest I have yet to see this rag out. hmm no real fav, I
am a site for SCAM! mag which make me laugh sometimes :)
SO : Eaten any nutmeg lately ?
LQ : <laughter> Nope... read about that too, eh?
SO : I think one of my friends tried it and just threw up.
<laughter>
LQ : I read it and laughed, never dawned on me to actually do it !
<A minute or so of meaningless chatter>
SO : Anyway, thanks a million for the interview, I'll make sure you get a copy
as soon as the mag comes out.
LQ : No problem, it'll be fun to see my name in print.
SO : Later.
LQ : Bye.

Death of RIOT
Megatron [Former RIOT Senior]
The Death of a Revolution
Recently, I had the unfortunate task of disbanding RIOT. I know
that many people are angry because RIOT was running so "smooth". Before our
disbanding, RIOT was considered by most people as the top 4th group in the
scene, right behind ACiD, iCE, and Gothic. Truth is, RIOT was not running
"smooth" at all. Things just weren't going right for the group. The
downfall started when one of our senior members, Ghost Rider, left the
group. He didn't draw but was one of the most important people in RIOT.
Then, some of our artists left the group to try out for bigger groups. They
had been offered trial spots and I guess their whole goal in this scene was
to make the well known groups. Maelstrom and iNCUBUS both tried out for
iCE, and I think only iNCUBUS made it. (BTW guys, that Benedict Arnold
thing was just a joke. Just wanted to clear that up. No hard feelings
here!). Boa went on trial for Gothic and got rejected. Then another
problem came when artists lost their computer. Believe it or not Quasar X
and Mad Style both had their computers taken away. Then Thanatos left away
for college. Lets see.. that's six artists so far right? Kip and Too
Short couldn't draw because they weren't even interested in this shit
anymore. Gamma couldn't draw because he's a bigtime schoolboy, and even if
he had time to draw, he would only draw fonts. For some reason, The
Guardian and SilverHawk both stopped drawing. I haven't had time to call
out to them yet, so I dunno what's up. On top of all this, Spawn and Crime
Lord were being tricked into joining some lame ass group called Fusion. Man
these guys told them that they would give them leech access on all on the
top boards. They also said that they could get major artists into their
group, such as Marshal Law. I had know idea that this group Fusion was
trying to take our artists until I started talking about disbanding the
group and asking where people would go if I did.
Then RIOT disbanded. If you knew me, then you knew that the group
make a damn lot to me. I remember when we were still up and coming, people
like Glenn Danzig would bag on us without having ever seen our art. I would
be the only one in the group to respond to these guys because I guest the
rest of the group felt intimidated by ACiD artists. RIOT just had to die.
I guess I was just tired of all the inactivity and having our artists taken
away by other groups. Why must the ansi scene be like that? Why can't
groups just stick with what they have and make their artists better? This
competition has taken away all of the fun from the art scene. Also, I
didn't want anyone to take over of the group because if RIOT were to be in
existence, it would have to be in top form. Oh yeah, now I'm gunna take the
time to respond to post-RIOT comments. After the disbanding of RIOT, some
people made comments that Dreadlord and I didn't know how to run a group.
Obviously, these people haven't even tried to run a group. Dreadlord and I
did the best job that a senior member staff could have possibly done in our
situation. When you consider that we took a group artists from scratch, and
took them into the "elite" of the ansi scene. The only artists that came to
us with any experience at all was Crime Lord, with his short time in TaG.
The rest of the group either started from scratch or were in small little
groups. I think it's safe to say that we took a local group as far as a
local group could go.
So what now for the RIOT artists? Truth is.. I dunno. I can tell
you that Dreadlord, Spawn, Crime Lord, and myself (Megatron), are all ACiD
artists. I'm still in close contact with all the RIOT artists, and most of
them are still calling out. I've seen several of our artists draw ansis
with "freelance" written at the bottom. There are a whole bunch of good
artists who weren't picked up. Gamma, SilverHawk, StreakeR, Too Short, and
the list goes on and on. Kip re-opened his old board Dogg
Town, only this time it's called Acme Looniversity. If you guys wanna check
it out, call 818.242.1821. There's a plug for you Kip. Also, Dreadlord
re-opened Malicious Intent, this time running PCBoard. Its still the same
number 818.570.6768. There's YOUR plug Eric. Well, I guess the RIOT
Uprisings are gunna be collectors items now, j/k. RIOT might have died, but
the revolution in our time is still on.
- Megatron
- exRIOT Senior Member
Greets (I don't usually do this, but since its a special occasion and all):
Dreadlord: Thanks for sticking it through with me. At least we were in it
until the very end.
Ghost Rider: Why bother? You don't even read art magazines.
Kip: Smoke a fat ass joint to this.. biyach!
Spawn: C'ya around! Good luck in ACiD.
Crime Lord: Good luck in ACiD.
iNCUBUS: You do some pretty good work for iCE! No hard feelings...
seriously.
Mass Delusion: Man, I asked everyone for a merge.. so don't feel too
special. BTW, RIOT didn't "collapse" as you put it. It
more like dissolved.
StreakeR/SilverHawk/Gamma: Sorry guys.. I'll call you up sometime, coolio?
Everyone that ever supported and helped us: Thanks..

ACiD 1994
Corwin of Amber [ACiD]
Over the last month there have been many new develpoments in ACiD
Productions (tm). First of all, yes, the rumors are true, Metal
Head and RaD Man have both quit there respective groups and formed
iCiD (Insane Creators in Demand). Along with the departure of MH
and RM, many artists are wondering what group to stay with or go to.
Due to the departure of RaD Man from ACiD means installation of a new
President. We are glad to say that we have filled the void with the
most qualified person we could find. ShadowSorceror the former head
of Empire is now in charge and everyone is very happy about it.
Also there have been some internal Promotions/Demotions within the
group. Egghead has been promoted to ShadowSorceror's secretary while
Cetis has been promoted t Egghead's Secreatry. We have no idea what
it is they exactly do, but we are pleased nonetheless.
Another surprise was the promotion of myself to ANSi coordinator.
Due to my superior ANSi skills which were supressed during the
RaD Man regime, i am now able to show the world my amazing skills
and prove once and for all, that I am one of the best ANSi artists
in the scene today. If you wish to see some of my amazing work,
view the ansi in the next article, to see the reasons for my
promotion.
The last promotion of any notice was the the return of
Snyper as ACiD Senior Staff. It seems that snyper never fully
got over the fact that noone in ACID or any group for that matter
actually likes him. He will be heading the newly formed
fingerpainting division and we hope to see alot of quality work
out of him.
However, there have been some internal problems due to the restructuring.
Alter Ego, who we all know was never a big fan of ShadowSorceror's has
quit saying 'I am not gonna be in a group with that asshole.' We will
miss AE's work extremely but we have replaced him with none other than...
Lord Carnuss. Yes, LC came over after a dispute with GOTHiC management
about the FANGS standard that SiDS did being a direct rip of our own SAUCE.
Glad to have you abord LC and hope to see some quality work from you.
That seems to be about it in the land of ACiD Productions (tm) for is month.
I know it has been a month of alot of startling changes but stick with us,
With ShadowSorceror and Frozen Tormentor leading the group, you can expect
alot of good things from us in the near future.
CN.ACiD.SWaT.CORRUPTION
Greets: Brandon: You did love the ANSi didn't you? :)
Ed: Why do you page me at such weird times?
HL: Yo, you momma is so hot.... :)
