  8.     One program that there is no shortage of is word processors. We all
  9. write letters to communicate with others. Computer Associates, a company
  10. with many Windows and MAC products, has CA-Textor.
  11.  
  12.     Installation of Textor is easy and straight forward. It requires
  13. 3524K for a full installation. It has an intuitive end-user design with
  14. features that will produce a professional document.
  15.  
  16.     When Textor is running you see, on the lower right corner of the
  17. screen, options for, INSERT, CAPS LOCK, NUMLOCK, and SCROLL LOCK, each of
  18. which can be activated or deactivated by a click on the button. Bold,
  19. Italic and others can be selected from buttons. If you want to bold a
  20. portion of text, you highlight it, and then press the Bold button. Clicking
  21. on the button again will change it back to its normal state. Replacing text
  22. is as easy as highlighting it, and then typing the replacement text.

  24.     You can create multiple paragraph formats and apply them as you
  25. need them.  Textor can do calculations, and has DTP features, like creating
  26. columns. Textor also has a built in table editing facility.

  28.     Textor has good Mail Merge capabilities. It will support ASCII,
  29. dBASE, SuperDB and CA-UpToDate.

  31.     I was impressed by several features of Textor. A Glossary is an
  32. excellent feature. You create a glossary of often used phrases, or words.
  33. Once saved you can bring them up at any time. I use the phrase
  34. 'ComputerTalk Magazine,' quite often. With Textor I do NOT have to type it
  35. each time. Using the glossary I typed it once!

  37.     Library Management is also a useful feature. You can create a
  38. folder for each group of documents. So if you have Accounts Payable,
  39. Accounts Receivable and so on, you set up a folder for each. Folder names
  40. can be 12 characters long and documents stored in them can be 40 characters
  41. long. It will also show you a history of the document that includes author,
  42. last revision date, time and so on.

  44.     Textor comes with a spell checker and thesaurus as do all word
  45. processors. However, Textor includes them in English, British, and French.
  46. These are especially suited for users with international needs.

  48.     The Tool Bar is Textor is fully configurable. You can change the
  49. location of the toolbar; information displayed on the button-text, icon or
  50. both. You can also change the order and the add more buttons than are shown
  51. on screen, and can use them by clicking on the right and left arrow icons
  52. below the bar.

  54.     I did omit most of the features of Textor. Such features as Copy,
  55. Paste, Delete, Header, Footer, Page Number and so on are in the high-end
  56. word processors, and Textor is no exception in that regard. It contains all
  57. these features and many others.

  59.     Additional features include: Context Sensitive Help, Tutorials,
  60. Automatic Pagination, and more.

  62.     I had two drawbacks with Textor. One, was that I was not able to
  63. put a graphic in the upper left corner of the page, and then have Name,
  64. Address centered on the same lines. Second is that the Fonts do not appear
  65. alphabetically. I found this a little annoying. Then again I do have a VAST
  66. amount of fonts, so I had a few to go through.

  68.     Overall, I did like the product. The street price should be
  69. competitive with the other products out there, and does deserve a look.
