  7.         Another month has passed. We are getting ready to say good-bye to
  8. summer, and school will be starting in a short time. I notice that more and
  9. more youngsters today are getting into computers. Almost all the schools
  10. have them, and many libraries. The libraries make you set up an
  11. appointment, to use a computer and software for a period of time. I think
  12. this is very good, as it keeps the children off the street. Here, in NYC,
  13. there are not many places for them to play, but in the streets, where they
  14. can get hit by a car. Keeping their minds occupied is a wonderful thing.

  16.         This month we ran a "head-to-head" comparison test with 6 Backup
  17. programs for DOS and Windows. The results may surprise you. In addition we
  18. have reviews on WordStar for Windows, Optune, Tempest, Icons 300+, Writers
  19. Toolkit for DOS, American Heritage Dictionary for Windows, WinMaster (which
  20. I think may be one of the first reviews of that program), and more.  Some
  21. of the readers have commented to me via the boards about the magazine.  I
  22. have included those in the FEEDBACK column.  All users are urged to send me
  23. comments both pro and con which I can include here.

  26.        This month we also have a message from David Langlois.  David was
  27. responding to a reader of the conference.  His observations about Windows
  28. is included. I think it will raise a few eyebrows.

  30.     
  31.         I would like to welcome, Bob O'Connor, who makes a guest writing
  32. appearance this month. Bob reviewed a shareware product that sets the time
  33. clock on your PC, by calling the Naval Observatory.
  34.  
  35.         Also, thanks to David Kaufman of Brooklyn Broadcasting System BBS,
  36. which has become an official distribution center for ComputerTalk
  37. Magazine.
  38.  
  39.         We have also been on a trial-run linked up to SmartNET. Our
  40. conference is being echoed within the IBM area on SN. Thanks for this goes
  41. to Thomas Murphy, SYSOP of PosterBoard Network, which is the HOME of the
  42. conference.  I would also like to congratulate Thomas on being named
  43. moderator of the IBM conference on SmartNET.

  45.         We have added several new boards to our lists of places where you
  46. can find CTM. One of them is in Canada. We are also in the process of
  47. working with CompuServe to have the magazine placed there each month. We
  48. will keep you informed.

  50.         I will let you get on with the reading of the magazine. Again, I
  51. always welcome comments, whether favorable or not. Feel free to contact me
