~Descent
Short Review By ADRIANO MAURIZIO GRISANTI 1995
This is similar to Heretic and Rise of the Triad : Dark Wars,
reviewed this issue, however instead of being in a 180 degree
environment, you are situated in a 360 degree environment
instead, which can be a bit disorientating at times, but alright
once you get used to it. The other difference between this and
Heretic and Dark Wars, is instead of being a human running around
corridors, you are a human pilot of a space craft, with only
missiles and lasers for weapons, which improve along the way.
Besides the weapons you can pick up armour and energy cubes
throughout the game.
Right on with the story. The game is basically a series on mine
shafts which you have to go through, rescuing hostages from the
mining equipment, which is built up from a series of different
robots and defence systems, which have malfunction. Once you have
rescued the hostages, you will be faced with a end of level reactor,
which needs destroying to complete the level, however once destroyed,
you'll only be given a certain amount of time to escape before the
whole mine explodes.
Overall I give this game 97% as it brilliant, although you really
need 8MB to do the game justice.
