  14.                    Network Library Information System
  15.  
  16.         Georgetown University is designing a Learning Resource Center
  17.    (LRC), part of which may consist of a system to enable computer query
  18.    (hopefully on-line) of G.U.'s Library holdings.  The ARPA community
  19.    might be of assistance in either of two ways:
  20.  
  21.         1.  One or more organizations may have a Library Retrieval
  22.             System that they would like to share with Georgetown.
  23.  
  24.         2.  Since there probably are needs for such a system at most
  25.             organizations, and since it would be highly beneficial
  26.             for one organization to be able to query other library
  27.             holdings as well, and subsequently arrange for inter-
  28.             library loans, the ARPA community might undertake to
  29.             design a Network Library Information System.
  30.  
  31.         If sufficient interest in such a system exists, a working group
  32.    could be set up to establish the necessary protocols and iron out
  33.    details of the system.
  34.  
  35.         It is probable that the NIC could provide valuable inputs to such
  36.    an undertaking and perhaps would serve as a focal point for the system
  37.    design and operation.

  39.         Please contact me if either:

  41.         1.  You have, or know of a Library Retrieval System that
  42.             can be shared with Georgetown University,
  43.  
  44.         2.  Your organization is interested in participating in a
  45.             Network Library Retrieval System, or
  46.  
  47.         3.  You are interested in participating in designing such a
  48.             system.
