Chambliss, Jr. Confederate John Randolph Chambliss, Jr. was born at Hicksford in Greensville County, Virginia on January 23, 1833. He graduated from West Point 31st in the Class of 1853. He spent a year in a unit of mounted riflemen, then D resigned and returned to Virginia to run the family plantation. Between 1856 and 1861 he served in the militia as commander of a regiment and was an aide to the governor.
