- Well, thanks to Andy Hanton's kind assistance, I now have a copy of
- the original Mac version of LodeRunner to play around with. So far
- no luck with recent Executor versions, but my partial success with
- Executor 1.3 leads me to suspect that the situation is not quite as
- hopeless as it seems....
-
- Under 1.3, Executor complains that the file does not have the
- permissions properly set, and that it must be run once as root.
- (The executable for LodeRunner is chown 200, chgrp 21, chmod 644,
- just like everything else in the ExecutorVolume, so this is a
- bit mysterious.) The program runs perfectly, albeit slowly, as
- root, but the permissions message remains unchanged---I can only
- run it when I am root.
-
- Under 1.99q12, Executor dies instantly---just vanishes---when I
- try to run LodeRunner as root. When I run it as an ordinary
- user, I get a "HALT: Unable to recover from error. You may return
- to the Finder." Changing the screen size to 512x342, on the
- assumption that a very old program might expect this, has no
- effect on this behavior.
-
- Is there anything I can do to try to figure out more about what's
- going wrong here? I suppose if it doesn't run by 1.99q12, it's
- probably too late to hope for it to run under 2.0, but the fact
- that it runs fine (as root only) under 1.3 suggests to me that
- there _might_ be something I can tweak. I welcome suggestions!
