  1. Well, thanks to Andy Hanton's kind assistance, I now have a copy of
  2. the original Mac version of LodeRunner to play around with.  So far
  3. no luck with recent Executor versions, but my partial success with
  4. Executor 1.3 leads me to suspect that the situation is not quite as
  5. hopeless as it seems....

  7. Under 1.3, Executor complains that the file does not have the
  8. permissions properly set, and that it must be run once as root.
  9. (The executable for LodeRunner is chown 200, chgrp 21, chmod 644,
  10. just like everything else in the ExecutorVolume, so this is a
  11. bit mysterious.)  The program runs perfectly, albeit slowly, as
  12. root, but the permissions message remains unchanged---I can only
  13. run it when I am root.

  15. Under 1.99q12, Executor dies instantly---just vanishes---when I
  16. try to run LodeRunner as root.  When I run it as an ordinary
  17. user, I get a "HALT: Unable to recover from error. You may return
  18. to the Finder."  Changing the screen size to 512x342, on the
  19. assumption that a very old program might expect this, has no
  20. effect on this behavior.

  22. Is there anything I can do to try to figure out more about what's
  23. going wrong here?  I suppose if it doesn't run by 1.99q12, it's
  24. probably too late to hope for it to run under 2.0, but the fact
  25. that it runs fine (as root only) under 1.3 suggests to me that 
  26. there _might_ be something I can tweak.  I welcome suggestions!
