  13. Yes, set up the environment variable SystemFolder to point into the a
  14. subdirectory of the user's home directory, then copy whatever you want
  15. the user to be able to change into that subdirectory and make links to
  16. the files you don't want the user to change in
  17. /usr/local/lib/executor/ExecutorVolume...

  19. Since the desktop pattern is contained in the System file, you might
  20. want the user to have his/her private copy of the System file,
  21. although it takes up a few hundred k.

  27. Yes, the browser does not allow you to position documents and folders
  28. within the window.  We copied much of the look and feel from the XV
  29. visual schnauzer, rather than Apple's Finder so they won't sue us.  We
  30. should probably allow people to adjust the spacing, but that work
  31. takes a back seat to a lot of other Executor work we're doing now.

  36. Hmmm... we don't have any similarly equipped machines over here -- the
  37. Linux boxes we use the most are 90 MHz Pentiums, but I don't know what
  38. would make the dragging real slow.  I just tried on a 75 MHz DX4 with
  39. 8 Mb RAM and dragging was fine.  Do you have a lot of windows open?
  40. Are other people seeing this problem, too??

  47. BBEdit Lite seems to work fairly well, although we can't easily bundle
  48. it with Executor.  Tex-Edit 2.5 kind of works for viewing files.
  49. We're in the middle of rewriting much of "stylized text edit" the
  50. section of Executor that many text editors use.  When we're done,
  51. we'll put Tex-Edit 2.5 back in the distribution.

  58. Right now ftp.ardi.com is a 28.8kb modem PPP link and it's way maxed
  59. out, so I can't pick up Ruins and TechnoManiac.  Perhaps Cotton (who
  60. works out of Cambridge) can pick it those up and look into them.  I'm
  61. going to log them as bugs that belong to Cotton and if it turns out
  62. that they don't, he'll let me know.

  67. That's an interesting question.  I thought I had planned that there
  68. would be a small upgrade fee when E/L 2.0 hit, but apparently our FAQ
  69. claimed that there would be no such upgrade fee.  This was pointed out
  70. to me last week, so we're going to make the "policy change" official
  71. later this week -- there will be no charge for Linux users to get
  72. 2.0.x updates.  That means we'll have to reissue keys, but it was our
  73. mistake so we'll live by it.
