  1. I also downloaded 1.99b demo to see if executor has gotten far enough
  2. to be a purchasable item...  I have to support PCs, Suns and Macs here
  3. at VIEWlogic, and I've only got enough desk space for a PC and a
  4. Sparc, leaving the mac users cold.

  6. 1.99b does look great.  Much improved over 1.2!  The color is a nice
  7. addition, and the speed is MUCH improved!  (See speedo tests below...)

  9. Now for the criticism...  *grin*
  10.  
  11. The colors don't look "right".  The Mac II used subdued, pastel tones
  12. while executor, though the same colors, uses bright ones.  It really
  13. hurts the "look" of the product.

  15. Also, I've been playing with the -*bpp switches.  If I set it to 1, I
  16. get monochrome.  4 gets 4-bit, 8 gets 8-bit (nice!).  The most fun,
  17. though, it 2.  If -macbpp is set to 2, Speedometer (at least) can
  18. switch pallettes like a real mac!  It was able to do monochrome, 2, 4,
  19. and 8 bit color tests!  All the other settings locked executor into
  20. that depth.  Is this a bug or a feature?  It would be nice to have the
  21. thing in 8-bit color all of the time and still be able to self-switch
  22. to other depths...  Maybe a color setting in the prefs popup?

  24. And what do those other prefs options do?  Screen Updates seemed to
  25. have no effect...  Direct Disk Access slowed my performance down!
  26. Flush Cache Often REALLY slowed the thing down!  What's Refresh and
  27. Cache Heuristics?

  29. Also, at least in Speedometer (I used 3.1), the "display gauge" didn't
  30. work except in 8-bit mode.  Even in monochrome, it came through as a
  31. big black block.

  96. This computer was a Gateway P4D-66.  486DX2 66, PCI video, lots of
  97. RAM.  This test was done with -macbpp 2 and -applzone 4 under Executor
  98. 1.99b.

  100. The color stuff is a bit faster than a Mac II.  The processor stuff is
  101. about 20 times the speed of a Mac Classic.  (which sported an 8 MHz
  102. MC68000)

  106. For comparison, the processor rating on the same computer of Executor
  107. 1.2 demo was just 6.260!
