Zips duel purpose is exactly what makes it less efficiant. I really don't want to get into an arguement on the list about it (and I agree LHA is a good one as well), it just seems since of the three platforms Executor is made for TWO of them are unix and ONE is DOS. Since we are using someone elses FTP site and there is a DOS gzip it just seemed like a kind thing to do (since it would save space and download/upload time)and not that difficult for for folks to handle since you could put a small paragraph in the ftp site readme that prints when you change into a directory or some such......... Anyways Later, Sean P.S. Weren't MFM/RLE hard drives a standard PC item once upon a time? Don't see them much any more......... ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Re: executor-digest V1 #232 Author: _oscarw (SMTP.OSCARW) at SSWGATE Date: 8/3/95 9:05 PM Zip is the standard of personal computer.... You can compress/decompress *.zip in MSDOS, Amiga, Mac, Unix, Apple ][, VAX, ..... Moreover, it is more easy to handle zip file than Gzip as zip can handle a group of files with full/partial path(directory) and delete or add a single file to the archive is more easier. I prefer zip ..... If talking about shareware or freeware or GNU software, I prefer lha as it is free and powerful.... Yours, Thomas
