ProteinSynthesis allows the user to follow the steps of protein synthesis at the level of the ribosome, tRNA, mRNA and amino acid. The user is able to observe the process of translation as the protein is being assembled. mRNA sequences can be entered and the mRNA can be translated. The amino acid sequence of the resulting protein is shown. "Mutations" can be made in the mRNA sequence and the consequence of those mutations can be seen at the level of protein sequence. Also provided is the "Genetic Code" which enables the user to explore the relationship between the three-nucleotide codon and the corresponding amino acid that is designated by that code.
ProteinSynthesis is used in Introductory Biology: Molecules, Cells, and Genetics and in Molecular Biology.
