  2. The boot: prompt waits ten seconds for you to type advanced startup options.
  3. If you don't type anything, the computer continues starting up normally: It
  4. uses the kernel and configuration files on the startup device, which it also
  5. uses as the root device.  Advanced startup options use the following syntax:

  7. [kernel] [-v] [-s] [-a] [options]
  8.  
  9. Where kernel is the name of the Mach kernel, -v shows additional diagnostic
  10. messages, -s starts up NEXTSTEP in single-user mode, and -a causes NEXTSTEP
  11. to ask you for a root and a /private folder. For information about additional
  12. options, see "Installing and Configuring NEXTSTEP."

  14. If the computer won't start up properly, you may be able to start it up using
  15. the drivers you used to install NEXTSTEP. Type: config=Default
  16.  
  17. To continue starting up using standard options, press Return.
