INTERNET3D SPACE BUILDER V.2.1
==============================
"Easily create sophisticated VRML 2.0 spaces"
---------------------------------------------
About ISB v.2.1
===============
Internet3D Space Builder 2.1 (ISB) is the flagship product for ParaGraph International's successful
Internet3D family of authoring products. ISB builds upon Virtual Home Space Builder (VHSB), Paragraph's
entry level award-winning VRML authoring tool, by adding powerful new features. These new features
include advanced Boolean operations for creating complex objects and shapes, interactive texture
manipulation, sophisticated graphics and file support and complete VRML 2.0 compliance. This means that
after you publish your 3D space on the Internet's World Wide Web, anyone using a standard VRML 2.0
browser can visit and explore your space.
ISB natively imports VRML 2.0 files, 3DS files, and VHSB's MUS files. It writes compact VRML 2.0
files, providing automatic reusability of objects and gzip compression.
An intuitive drag-and-drop building metaphor and integrated rendering engine allow ISB users to build, modify and
view their spaces within a single comprehensive interface.
Easy integration of HTML links allows for an instant connection from your 3D space to HTML pages
across the Internet. Multimedia support includes animation and sound (WAV and MIDI).
ISB comes with a large library of textures, images, animations, shapes, 3D models and sample
3D scenes to help you quickly create rich environments.
In addition to its comprehensive online Help system, ISB comes with an electronic Quick Start
Guide (in Microsoft(R) Word(TM) format). This document explains ISB's main features and building
procedures. It also includes a function Reference Guide.
You can purchase ISB in two forms: a downloadable package and a CD-ROM edition.
To install the downloadable package, click on the self-extracting archive received from ParaGraph's
Web site. To install the CD-ROM edition, simply click Setup.exe. from the root directory of the
CD-ROM and follow the installation instructions.
To learn more about ParaGraph International's products and technologies, visit our Web
site at www.paragraph.com.
Thank you for purchasing Internet3D Space Builder, version 2.1!

What's New in ISB v.2.1
=======================
This section explains new features, updates and changes for ISB v.2.1.
1. Object Editing Mode has been implemented
-------------------------------------------
Object Editing Mode allows you to independently edit an object and save it to the scene,
the clipboard, or the object gallery. Object Editing Mode is activated when:
- you double-click or "Open" an object in the object gallery
- you select an object in a Scene and choose Edit from the Object menu, depress the Object Edit button,
or right click on the object in the 3D view and Plan View Windows and select Edit in the pop-up menus
- you create a new object by choosing New in the Object Menu.
Object Editing Mode provides a one-button solution to quickly toggle between an object in the
scene and the overall heirarchy of objects. In Ojbect Edit mode the selected object is presented alone in
the Perspective view for study and in the Plan window for discreet modeling.
2. Spline-based Shape Building mode has been added
--------------------------------------------------
In addition to polygon shape modeling, you can now use splines to outline smooth multi-polygonal
surfaces on the plan. This mode allows the building of miscellaneous surface types by controlling
smoothing and tensioning of polygonal edges.
3. Two independent methods for the compression of exported VRML have been implemented
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ISB's VRML generator now recognizes similar objects, differing only in scale and position,
as instances of one object. For example, if a scene contains 10 identical chairs, each having
4 identical legs, the resulting VRML will contain geometry for one non-legged chair and one leg.
This method substantially reduces the size of the published scene, with no significant change
in the saving time.
ISB now imports and exports worlds (.wrl files) in gzip compressed VRML format which is supported by all major
VRML 2.0 browsers like SGI Cosmo Player, Netscape Live 3D and Intervista World View.
These two methods together reduce the average scene file size by a factor of 5-10.
4. True Color Rendering Engines
-------------------------------
An enhanced list of supported rendering engines is now available.
A True color rendering engine with basic and improved lighting models has been added.
On start up, the program checks for screen color resolution and advises on the most appropriate
engine. Picture quality has been improved, colors are brighter, and the visual difference between
textures in the Gallery and the 3D view window has been minimized.
5. MMX Support has been implemented
-----------------------------------
All of the rendering engines included with ISB 2.1 now support Intel's MMX(R) instruction set.
The 256 Color, High Color, and True Color Rendering Engines are currently MMX compatible.
On start up, the program checks for MMX and screen color resolution and selects the most
appropriate engine.
6. The following miscellaneous features have been added
-------------------------------------------------------
- Automatic scrolling in the Plan View window (if the shape, object or guide lines are not
visible)
- A new button and menu item called Go to Object has been added. This feature allows you to
smoothly move the camera to the optimal position for the selected object.
- The Perspective View window now displays cursors for easier navigation. The cursors are
mode sensitive, providing an additional visual cue during building and editing.
7. The program has been stabilized for running under Windows NT 4.0.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. Several bugs have been fixed
-------------------------------
- contour tracing on flat surfaces with multiple cutouts
- recognition of the Sphere primitive when reading VRML 2.0 files
- importing of certain 3DS files
9. The installer has been corrected
-----------------------------------
It now creates a Program menu item and group off of the Start button.
Installation Tips
=================
1. We recommend that you uninstall ISB v.2.0 before installing this version.
2. We advise that you save all edited objects, scenes, clip-art, and media under new names and
in temporary directories, otherwise your files may be overwritten during the installation

3Name3D is a production facility specializing in custom modeling for the entertainment
industry, and have developed a growing library of 3D objects called Cyberprops.
In an effort to encourage the building of VRML worlds, and to increase the awareness of
CyberProps in the VRML community, 3Name3D is offering 25 CyberProps that have been translated
into VRML 2.0 format. Materials and creaseAngles have been assigned and (where appropriate)
texture coordinates have been added. We hope you enjoy them.
These objects may not be resold. Proper credit must be given for commercial use of this object.
