E) Helpful Tips for Using NetObjects Fusion
A) System Requirements
======================
-Windows 95 or Windows NT 3.5x (or later)
-486/66 PC (Pentium strongly recommended) with a minimum of 16 MB of RAM (32 MB on Windows
NT preferred--additional memory improves performance on less powerful machines)
-40 MB of available hard-disk space for full installation (10 MB for minimum install)
-SVGA or higher-resolution video monitor
-TCP/IP compliant with Winsock version 1.1 or later
-32-bit ODBC drivers for external database connectivity
-A mouse is highly recommended
You will also need a Web browser installed on your machine. NetObjects Fusion is optimized
for:
a) Netscape Navigator 2.0 and higher
b) Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0 and higher
c) Other HTML 3.x compatible browsers
B) Installing NetObjects Fusion
===============================
If you are installing from the CD-ROM, you need to invoke the setup program by using the
Start button and choosing Run. Then browse to your CD-ROM drive and double-click on the
Setup icon.
If you downloaded the program from our Web site, you have to "unzip" the self-extracting
.EXE file. Use the Start button and click on Run and then browse to where your Internet
browser saved the downloaded file. The NetObjects Fusion setup program will launch
automatically at the conclusion of the unzipping process.
Please follow the installation directions. The necessary files will be installed in a
directory called C:\Program Files\NetObjects Fusion. If you designate a different
directory, the Example sites may not behave as expected when you preview.
The data files created with NetObjects Fusion have a .NOD extension. The files will be
stored by default under the NetObjects Fusion directory in the User Sites directory.
Templates created with a previous version of NetObjects Fusion may not be upward compatible.
C) Un-Installing NetObjects Fusion
==================================
To un-install NetObjects Fusion, simply launch the Add/Remove Program from your Control
Panel and select NetObjects Fusion. The Un-installer will not delete any files you have
created with NetObjects Fusion.
D) Upgrading from NetObjects Fusion 0.9 Pre-release
===================================================
This version of NetObjects Fusion is designed to be compatible with all your data files
created with previous releases of NetObjects Fusion.
When updating sites created in NetObjects Fusion 0.9 Pre-Release Edition to the new
release of NetObjects Fusion, you may lose some manually placed links. If this happens,
you will need to re-link the link elements you've lost.
E) Helpful Tips for Using NetObjects Fusion
===========================================
General
* We recommend that you do not run multiple instances of NetObjects Fusion. If
you have more than one instance running at the same time, you risk corrupting
your data and being forced to rebuild your site.
* If Preview does not launch your default Browser, check the Edit|Preferences
dialog, and if necessary, re-install your favorite browser if it does not
appear in the dialog box. To select Microsoft Internet Explorer as your
default browser, simply mark the "Internet Document" option as the default.
SiteStructure Editor
* By default, NetObjects Fusion uses the name of the page you add in your Site
to generate the automated navigation elements. You may want to keep your
page names short (less than 15 characters).
PageDraw Editor
* HTML browsers do not support overlapping elements. If your site does not appear
exactly as you expect, check your layouts to see that there are no overlapping
elements. Overlapping objects are indicated in reverse colors.
* Shockwave animations may not preview correctly in Internet Explorer if the path
to the original file includes spaces. The animation, however, will
stage and be published correctly.
* Importing a form page may produce unexpected results.
* In this release, Import HTML will not position the elements of your page in a
WYSIWYG fashion. Reposition them to create a new layout.
SmartObjects
* When using the SiteMapper Java application and the Forms-Handler CGI script,
please make sure to read the ReadMe files located in their respective
folders before proceeding.
