  1. US laws place restrictions on the export of defense articles, which
  2. includes some types of cryptographic software.  PGP and ssh fall into
  3. this category.  It is legal however, to import such software into the
  4. US.
  5.  
  6. Other software may not be used at all in the US because of patent
  7. violations.  bzip falls into this category.
  8.  
  9. To prevent anyone from taking unnecessary legal risks, some Debian
  10. GNU/Linux packages are only available from a non-US site:
