  3.                        Introduction
  4.                        ------------
  5. If you're a frequent speaker, teacher, writer or just a
  6. person who enjoys a good quotation, The Quotewright is for
  7. you. Sure, you can buy a book a of quotations at your local
  8. book store, but it won't necessarily contain all of your
  9. favorite quotes and you won't be able to organize them any
  10. way you want. Enter your favorite quotations in The
  11. Quotewright today. Tomorrow, The Quotewright will be your
  12. best friend.

  14.                 The Quotewright Main Screen
  15.                 ---------------------------
  16. The Quotewright main screen consists of:
  17.  
  18. * The quote display box status bar (across the top of the
  19.   box), which shows the current "author" and "topic"
  20. * The quotation display box across the top portion of the
  21.   screen
  22. * The "Select Author" pick list at bottom left
  23. * The "Select Topic" pick list at bottom right
  24. * The "Previous" and "Next" buttons between pick lists
  25. * The number of quotations display ("# being viewed" of
  26.   "total number by the selected author on the selected
  27.   topic")
  28. * The mousable slide bar at bottom center
  29. * The row of buttons across the very bottom of the screen.
  30.  
  31.                     Viewing Quotations
  32.                     ------------------
  33. You may view all quotations in the file, all of the
  34. quotations by a selected author, all of the quotations by a
  35. selected topic, or all of the quotes by a selected author
  36. on a selected topic--all by different arrangements of the
  37. highlights in "Select Author" and "Select Topic." For
  38. example, if you want to view all of The Quotewrights
  39. quotations, position the pick list highlights on ALL and
  40. ALL. Similarly, you may select Thoreau and ALL to view all
  41. of Thoreau's quotations or ALL and BEAUTY to view all the
  42. quotations about beauty that are currently in The
  43. Quotewright's file.
  44.  
  45. You may use the mouse pointer and left mouse button combo
  46. to select any author and any topic. Simply click on your
  47. selections (highlight them) and the first of "x" number of
  48. quotes will appear on the screen in the box across the top.
  49. Click the "Next" button to view the next quotation or
  50. "Previous" to view the former quotation. You may also use
  51. the slide bar (hold mouse button and drag) to quickly move
  52. from the first quotation to the very last one. You may also
  53. use the mouse to select any of the features listed across
  54. the bottom.

  56. You also may easily operate The Quotewright from the
  57. keyboard by pressing a function key or ALT plus the
  58. highlighted letter on any button or menu.
  59. Alt-A -- Allows you to select an AUTHOR.
  60. Alt-T -- Allows you to select a TOPIC.
  61. N or the right arrow key -- Displays the NEXT quote (if
  62.          there is one for that author and subject).
  63. P or the left arrow key -- Displays the PREVIOUS quote.

  65.                     Printing Quotations
  66.                     -------------------
  67. You may print the "Current Quote Only" (the one on the
  68. computer screen in the background), "All Quotes Selected"
  69. (all quotes by the current author on the current topic), or
  70. "Entire Quote File" (the entire "database" of quotations).
  71.  
  72. Press F5 on the main screen for a list of these options.
  73. Once you've selected what you want to print with the mouse
  74. or up/down arrow keys, click the Print button...or press
  75. Alt-P. Alt-C cancels printing. If your printer is not ready
  76. (on line) when you select "Print," The Quotewright will
  77. give you an error message. Your choices are to Cancel
  78. (Alt-C) or to Retry (Alt-R) after readying your printer.

  80.                      Adding Quotations
  81.                      -----------------
  82. To add quotations to The Quotewright, press F2 (or click
  83. the Add button) on the main screen. An "add screen" will
  84. appear. A blinking cursor marks the area where you will
  85. type in your quotation(s).

  87. STEP 1 - Select the author of the quote from the author
  88. pick list (Alt-A), or add a new author to the pick list
  89. (Alt-U).
  90. STEP 2 - Select the topic of the quote from the Topic pick
  91. list (Alt-T), or add a new topic to the pick list (Alt-P).
  92. STEP 3 - After making sure that the correct author and
  93. topic are highlighted in the two pick lists, type in your
  94. quote. Be sure to use punctuation and capitalization where
  95. appropriate.
  96. STEP 4 - Click "OK" or press Alt-O to approve the addition,
  97. and "Cancel" (Alt-C) to abort the operation.

  99.                     Editing Quotations
  100.                     ------------------
  101. If you wish to edit (correct or replace) a quotation,
  102. select the quotation (make it visible) on the main screen,
  103. then press Edit (F3). The "edit screen"--already
  104. containing the quotation you were just viewing on the main
  105. screen--will appear. Use the keyboard keys to edit the
  106. quotation. Click the OK button (Alt-O) to save your changes
  107. or Cancel (Alt-C) to abort the operation.
  108.  
  109.                     Deleting Quotations
  110.                     -------------------
  111. If you wish to delete a quotation, select the quotation
  112. (make it visible) on the main screen, then press Delete
  113. (F4). You will be asked if you are sure you want to delete
  114. the quotation displayed in the background (behind the
  115. "delete dialog box"). Your choices are YES (Alt-Y), NO
  116. (Alt-N) or CANCEL (Alt-C). NO and CANCEL will have the same
  117. effect--the quotation will not be deleted.

  119. When a quotation is deleted leaving an author or topic
  120. without further associated quotations, you will be
  121. prompted as to whether or not that author or topic should
  122. be deleted.  Additionally, any author or topic with no
  123. associated quotations will be automatically deleted from
  124. The Quotewright upon exit time, but they can also be
  125. deleted from within the delete menu.  Keep in mind that
  126. deletions for authors and topics work only when there are
  127. no associated quotations.  Any attempt to delete an
  128. author or topic while it still has an associated
  129. quotation will be refused by the program.

  132.                      Keyboard Hotkeys
  133.                      ----------------
  134. F1 - HELP....Pulls up this help text.
  135. F2 - ADD.....Allows you to add quotations.
  136. F3 - EDIT....Allows you to edit a selected quotation.
  137. F4 - DELETE..Allows you to delete a selected quotation.
  138. F5 - PRINT...Allows you to print a single quotation, a
  139.              group of selected quotations or the entire
  140.              quotation file.
  141. F9 - ABOUT...Pulls up version and credit information.
  142. ESC  EXIT....Exits The Quotewright.
