--- WHAT'S WHAT ---
------------------------------------------------------------
Happy is the man who early learns the wide chasm that lies
between his wishes and his powers. --Goethe
------------------------------------------------------------
Computer friends, if you love a good quote as much as I do,
you're going to flip over this month's OfficeWare
selection--The Quote Wright. If you use Windows or a Paint
program, you'll love our .BMP (bitmap) files, designed to be
used as backgrounds. Exercise your mind with Crypto Sleuth
by "decoding" (i.e., revealing) each quotation. Great fun
for teens and adults of all ages! Take phone messages at
your computer with Message Center. And use our summer .PCX
clip art in your brochures, newsletters and other desktop
publications.
Finally, our feature on this issue is Knight Life Chess. You
can buy a chess game with VGA graphics. You can even buy a
chess game that plays a game good enough to challenge a
grand master...but for the money, you won't be able to beat
Knight Life Chess. It's out of this world!

--- ON DISK MONTHLY TECH SUPPORT UPDATE ---
Issue #76 has been re-mastered due to the fact that some
subscribers weren't able to print when using Jacket II and
Freeform Database 2.0. Call 1-800-831-2694 and ask for
Customer Service to request a updated version of that
issue.
We've had a couple of calls concerning program compatibility
with MS-DOS 6.0, which many of you have no doubt already
ordered. This is the first issue of On Disk Monthly that was
tested with version 6.0, so if you install 6.0 and
experience problems with some of our older programs, let us
know. However, you should be aware that DOS 6.0 requires
more of your computer's memory than DOS 5.0 and previous
versions. Therefore, if your computer has only 512K or 640K
of RAM (no extended or expanded) and you install DOS 6.0,
you may not be able to run programs that ran fine before.
You'll get "insufficient memory" messages in these
instances. If you do have more than 640K of memory, be sure
the statement "DOS=HIGH MEM" or whatever is suggested by
your DOS manual is stated in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
Also, it looks like Personal Calc 2.0 (issue #77) and a few
keyboards have trouble communicating when the Num Lock is
engaged and you attempt to use the number pad for input.
You'll know if yours is one of these the second you try to
input data. We're trying to track this down and will fix
the problem as soon as possible. Look for an announcement
about this one in the next Editor's Corner.
