Dear fellow PC enthusiasts:
Welcome to another exciting issue of ON DISK MONTHLY. The
contents of this issue are "meaty" and varied. It contains
something of interest for every computer-using member of
your family.
ON THIS ISSUE:
-- ---- ------
PCX 'Rangler was developed because you told us what you
wanted--a way to "clip" a single image from our pages of
.PCX images, a way to print them and a way to view them (no
matter what monitor and graphics card you might have).
You'll be able to do each of those things--view, print and
clip .PCX files-- with PCX 'Rangler. Though 'Rangler is easy
to use, remember that the Help file is only a key press
away. If you prefer, print out the Help file and refer to it
while using the program. And, for your viewing pleasure,
we've included several .PCX files.
Grocery Kart is a "database" that makes grocery shopping a
breeze. Save and edit an unlimited number of grocery lists,
add prices and aisles for up to three different stores to
make shopping easy...and much more! Originally scheduled for
issue #69, we wanted it to be all it could be. Get busy!
Poker Square is an addictive card game that I really enjoy.
Don't worry. There's no betting or gambling involved--just
lots of fun.
Insurance Shopper will help you wade through sales talk
("know whut I mean, Vern?") and see the bottom line when it
comes to life insurance.
DOS Manager is an extremely handy and amazingly full-
featured DOS utility. Try it, you'll like it. In no time at
all, it will become your most useful and "I-can't-live-
without-it" utility.
And finally, there's Word Finder, a word game that all of
you puzzle/word-game "nuts" will eagerly "crack open" for
game after game. Word Finder contains four different words
lists to load, three levels of play and creates unique
puzzles every time you play. Let me know if you'd like to
see this program--with new word lists--repeated on future
issues.
ON THIS ISSUE'S LABEL BUT NOT ON THE ISSUE:
-- ---- ------- ----- --- --- -- --- ------
Due to the fact that our labels are currently produced out
of house and more than two months in advance of the actual
issue, you will find a program, entitled My EntertainMate,
on the #70 label that is not on the disk. I apologize for
the inconvenience. Rest assured that we are in the process
of obtaining an in-house label-making system that will give
us the flexibility to reorganize an issue's contents when
necessary, but not affect you. Some programs simply require
more development time than initially scheduled, while others
require less. My EntertainMate required more.
What is My EntertainMate? It is a database to keep track of
various categories of home entertainment--including books,
films, music and videos. You asked for it, so we're going to
give it to you. Look for My EntertainMate on an upcoming
issue.
COMING ON THE NEXT ISSUE:
------ -- --- ---- ------
PRINT SHOP UTILITIES 5.0 - This update to our most popular
Print Shop-related program, including a new CGA & EGA
interface, is bound to be a hit.
KLONDIKE SOLITAIRE - The long-awaited update to one of your
favorite card games now has CGA, EGA AND VGA graphics.
APPOINTMENT CALENDAR - This program will make your busy life
easier to manage.
AND MUCH MORE....
POSTSCRIPT:
-----------
Your Report Cards give us invaluable feedback. Keep them
coming. However, I've noticed that your Report Cards
indicate that some of you never bother to run, or seriously
try to use, certain types of programs on each issue. I urge
you to try EVERY program on each disk. Don't let your past
experiences with a certain type of program or your dislike
of a certain topic keep you from enjoying a good program. A
few people, for example, have told us that they "don't play
games." Maybe not--but have they played any of our recent
games? Be adventurous, people. That's what computers are all
about. You don't need a "user's license" and there's no age
limit to having fun and learning new things!
I hope you enjoy this issue and that you'll look forward to
the next one as much as I do. Until then...happy computing!
