  8.    Your writing style--how easy is it to read?  Do you hold the
  9. interest of your readers?  Is your writing tone negative?  Last month
  10. Softdisk's On Disk Monthly brought you EZ SCAN, a text file
  11. viewer/printer; this month we are proud to present Terrance Emerson's
  12. latest creation:  EZ STYLE, a grammar stylistic analyzer that
  13. evaluates writing samples based on the test of Dr. Rudolph Flesch in
  14. three critical areas:  Reading Ease, Human Interest, and Negativity.
  15. Put your writing to the test and find out exactly how it measures up
  16. on the objective Flesch scale.  Dr. Flesch is widely known as the
  17. author of numerous books on writing.

  20. ^C^1Using It Is EZ^0

  22.    To invoke EZ STYLE from DOS, simply type ^1EZSTYLE^0 at the DOS
  23. prompt.  You will see the program title screen.  Press ENTER to get
  24. to the Main Menu.  From here there are four options that pull down
  25. sub-menus:  File, Evaluate, About, and Quit.  Use the left and right
  26. arrow keys to highlight an option, then press ENTER to select that
  27. option.  ESCAPE backs out of any selection or exits EZ STYLE.
  28. Pressing F1 provides you with context-sensitive help from nearly
  29. everywhere in the program.  The four Main Menu options are explained
  30. below:

  33.    This pull-down menu offers two selections:
  34.  
  35.    ^1Change Directory^0
  36.        Type in a directory path where the document files will be
  37.        found.
  38.  
  39.    ^1Select Document^0
  40.        Displays files to view from the current directory.  Move the
  41.        highlight bar with the arrow keys and select with ENTER.  Once
  42.        you have pressed ENTER, the file will be loaded for viewing
  43.        and/or evaluating.

  46.    This pull-down menu offers three selections:

  48.    ^1Reading Ease^0
  49.        Evaluate the selected file for ease of reading based on the
  50.        Rudolph Flesch test.

  53.        Evaluate the selected file for human interest based on the
  54.        Rudolph Flesch test.

  57.        Evaluate the selected file for negativity based on the number
  58.        of negative words in the sample.
