Hello to everyone at Softdisk Publishing,
This is a first for me as I don't usually correspond in this manner.
However, and as you can see by the header (The original letter has an
awesome Print Shop letterhead. -ed), I am into PS graphics. I use
them for personal pleasure as well as work. I work in retail and have
a ball making banners and flyers for the store. As you can also see I
make up my own return labels (The original envelope has an awesome
Print Shop label. -ed). Please keep those graphics coming! There is
nothing like them for the holidays and church news letters.

^1Dear Mr. Morris,
^1Thanks for taking the time to write. You can rest assured that we
^1will continue to supply quality PS graphics as long as the public
^1demands them.

Dear Mr. Wilbur,
I see that several people are having problems running programs written
by John "BEZ" Besnard. Instead of writing to Tech Support with a
problem of my own, I just wanted to write to let you know just the
opposite: that his work runs just fine on my orphaned IBM PCjr,
probably the most incompatible of all compatible-IBM machines. And jr
is not on the list of machines that you test on. The talking [in the
BEZ games] is not wonderfully clear, but it can be made out if
listened to carefully.
I'm just sorry that, unfortunately, very few programs--Scott Miller's
"Kroz" games being the outstanding exception--take into account the
PCjr's Color Monitor's 16-color capability. A program like "Abstract
Art 2" would be a real dazzler on a PCjr if all 16 colors were used.
I don't know if anyone else has ever mentioned this to you; probably
not; it's very likely that among your many subscribers, I'm one of the
very few (or maybe even the only) PCjr subscribers. Somebody recently
said (I can't think who) that if the hardware and software do what you
need to do, you've got a good system, or words to that effect. And
though much maligned, the PCjr still has about 500,000 very pleased
users.
I enjoy BBD and will certainly continue to subscribe as long as I can
use some of the programs you provide. "PSUTIL4" is terrific and the
Print Shop images are great. If you are interested in taking the PCjr
into account for future programs and don't know how to do so, you
might want to contact jrNewsletter, PO Box 163, Southbury, CT 06488

^1Dear Philip,
^1We are all delighted that the BEZ games run on your jr. Unfortunately
^1it's not the jrs who are at fault with the BEZ games--it's the IBM
^1PS2/30. So I, logically, sought out a PS2/30 to test the BEZ
^1programs on and they worked without a problem. The current data
^1indicates that half of the PS2/30 users can run the BEZ games without
^1fail and the other half get a hung system. We are still working on a
^1resolution to this situation.
^1I can appreciate your statement about the lack of support for the jr's
^116 color mode. Granted, while it is a wonderfully colorful machine,
^1the color mode is not a standard. Yes, games like "Kroz" are in
^1color, but that was colored text--not 16 color graphics. It's a lot
^1easier to support color text in a program.
^1(Note: If you think AbArt 2 would have been neat to see in 16 colors,
^1you should dream for a moment of what it looked like in 256 color VGA-
^1-which it did support. -ed)
^1You should also know that we have a number of jr subscribers on our
^1rolls. I've only heard from about six of them personally, but I'll
^1bet that number is just the tip of the iceberg. Each one was very
^1loyal to his/her machine. Far be it from me to argue with someone who
^1is happy with their machine. But I can sit here and say the standards
^1used in those machines are obsolete. There are faster, smaller, more
^1colorful machines on the market--it won't be long until those are
^1obsolete as well.
^1(Note: If you want to stay on the leading edge of PC technology, buy a
^1new PC every Monday. -ed)
^1We will try our best to support the PCjr with our software. We are in
^1the process of setting up a souped up jr (640k, hard drive, faster
^1cpu, etc) for testing. While I can't promise that we'll start to
^1support the jr's 16 color graphics mode, I can say that a larger
^1percentage of our software will run on it.

I have been a subscriber to BBD for over two years now and have a
complete collection of BBDs #1 through #54 which I purchased all from
BBD. In all the replies that you gave to your subscribers, I support
you on all except for the answer you gave to Derek Hughes BBD #54
(Blue Notes.) You made an assumption that your subscribers are not
interested in computer programming. You are wrong!
I am very interested in learning how to program and a lot of other
computer users are! If you are customer driven like you claim to be I
think you should try out a sample lesson on programming and let the
subscribers decide if they like it or not.
I also disagree with Derek Hughes that the Print Shop Images is a
waste. I enjoy the images and think they should continue. If I knew
how to load those files and learn to read them I too could create my
own graphics and submit them to you for possible publication so others
could enjoy them.

^1Dear Ted,
^1We didn't just peer into a crystal ball and come up with the answer
^1that our users are not interested in programming. Years ago, we did
^1indeed run lessons on programming, with code examples on disk. They
^1were not well received by the public. In fact, we've run programming
^1lessons on all of Softdisk's products (Softdisk-Apple II, Loadstar-
^1C64, DiskWorld-Mac) and none of them met with any success.
^1In recent months we've heard from about 6 of the 50,000 On Disk
^1subscribers on this subject, and I need to hear from more if there is
^1going to be a change in our current attitudes. If you have an
^1interest in this matter--either way--please write and let me know. If
^1enough subscribers want us to do something within our means, you can
^1bet your bippy it will be done!
