^C"Change, though feared, is necessary for growth."
Truer words have never been spoken. We are in the planning stages of
Big Blue Disk's changes and I just want to prepare you for what are
bound to be monumental changes. No need to fear, these will be
changes for the better.
In BBD #52 I made the announcement that we would begin to support
EGA and VGA users. For some reason a few CGA/Mono users took that to
mean we were dropping support for their machine. Nothing could be
farther from the truth. Some of our CGA/Mono friends wrote and kindly
requested that we explore a new, easier to use presenter for them. I
appreciated that and will fulfil their request. Many other CGA/Mono
users wrote to me to let me know what a moron I was for even
considering to widen our possible audience. Considering the tone
used when I wrote the article in #52 I can understand their thoughts.
From a logical, business standpoint I can only hope they understand
ours.
Our overall objective is to make BBD easier to use and more attractive
for all our computing friends. The new presenter will auto-detect
your video card (you will be able to force video modes from the
command line) and launch into the correct version. We WILL continue
to support all hardware platforms with our programs and our presenter
as long as it is financially profitable to do so. In other words, as
long as you buy BBD we will cater to your needs.
BBD is trying to make a win/win situation for Softdisk, Inc. and ALL
our users. We are going to develop software that will run on and push
the hardware of ALL our users machines. As of this writing the only
things we are pushing is the patience of those users who've invested
in EGA & VGA cards and monitors. It's my job to see that everyone
(Mono, CGA, EGA, VGA, SVGA) has an educational, profitable, dare I
say, visually amazing experience with BBD. Indeed it's a tall order,
one that I plan on seeing happen!
See you in 30.
