KONO is a Korean game similar to checkers. The object of KONO is to
eliminate the other player's pieces by landing on them. There are two ways of
moving:
1) Move in any one of the four compass directions.
2) Move by jumping one of your own pieces, landing on your opponent's
piece, and capturing it.
KONO is played on a 4 x 4 grid; each player starts with 8 pieces. A player
wins by capturing all of the opponent's pieces or by blocking an opponent --
preventing any movement. The computer will announce a tie if neither player
wins within a reasonable (approximately 100) number of moves.
When it is your turn to move, a table of letters corresponding to the
positions of your movable game pieces will appear to the top right of the
game board. For each piece that can be moved, a letter from A to P will be
displayed on the movement table. Press the letter corresponding to the piece
you wish to move. Then, press the <ARROW KEYS> for the appropriate direction
of movement (up, down, left, or right).
KONO's command keys are:
F1: Display a summary of the KONO's rules.
F2: Select the player options. Each player may choose from four
different levels:
1) Human
2) Computer Level 1
3) Computer Level 2
4) Computer Level 3
Move up and down the list with the <ARROW KEYS>; press the <SPACE BAR>
after you have made a selection (the asterisk will move to your
selection); then press <ENTER>.
F3: Toggle the sound On/Off.
F4: Restart KONO
F5: Reverse the last move.
ESC: Exit KONO back to Big Blue Disk MAIN MENU.
KONO is difficult to win. To gain insight into the strategy behind the
game, use the Players option (<F2>) to match two computer-controlled players
against each other. Learn from the computer's strategy and you may become a
KONO Master.
