 Dear BBD:

     Recently I renewed a trial subscription and want to compliment you on the
 variety of programs you make available, as well as the ease of using them.
 Although I haven't used all of them, the ones that have been using have proven
 themselves most effective.  However, I can't get the FRACTALS program in BBD
 Issue #30 to run.  While in the "Menu" mode, running the program gets me back
 to the menu.  Entering it directly brings the response that "a color graphics
 card is necessary."  My Compaq has a Paradise Basic Video Card, which is CGA-
 compatible.  Have you any idea as to the problem?  Thanks in advance.

 ^1>  Yes, I do.  Unfortunately, the problem with FRACTALS slipped by us.  Each
 ^1>issue of Big Blue Disk goes through extensive testing before we publish.
 ^1>Our testers do an excellent job, but this was a case where only certain types
 ^1>of computers seem to have difficulty with this program.  Once I realized a
 ^1>problem existed, I contacted the author of FRACTALS and worked out a
 ^1>Solution.  I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.  A new
 ^1>copy of FRACTALS should be in your hands shortly!

 Dear Big Blue Disk

 In attempting to run "PROTO-TYPE" from BBD Issue 29, the following problem was
 encountered: The very first lesson called for the user to type certain
 letters, but would not accept the letter unless it was in the wrong size.
 Thus, small letters had to be typed in upper-case and visa-versa.  This
 problem caused so nuch trouble, that I discontinued the trial.

 I have an IBM-clone (Packard Bell PB 88) with 640K RAM and a 30MB hard disk
 using MS-DOS 3.30 and GW-Basic 3.22 as primary bases.

 What am I doing wrong?

 ^1>  I have run PROTO-TYPE on several different systems and not encountered
 ^1>this difficulty.  The only way I can duplicate the problem you mention is by
 ^1>toggling my CAPSLOCK on while using the tutorial.  When I do this everything
 ^1>behaves in a backwards manner, just as you describe.  Make sure your
 ^1>CAPSLOCK key is off.  If this doesn't correct the problem, please let me
 ^1>know.

 Dear BIG BLUE DISK,

     There are a couple of reasons I'm writing, but first things first!  I
 recently discovered BIG BLUE DISK and have become completely taken with it. I
 subscribe to a couple of regular computer magazines in addition to yours and
 find they are written for people whose knowledge and expertise in computers
 far exceeds mine. My background is limited to the past year's experience in
 learning to work with and use computers.

     On the other hand, BIG BLUE DISK remembers that there are people out in
 the real world like me who are novices to the world of computers. That fact is
 greatly appreciated.

     I find BIG BLUE DISK to be informative and I thoroughly enjoy all the
 features. It is the only magazine I truly read "cover to cover," exploring all
 the features.

     Being a Print Shop person, I find your additions to my graphics library
 especially satisfying. Your Print Shop Utilities 2 has become a welcome
 addition to my utilities library. I can't pile enough praise on it.

     I would like to inquire into the possibility of procuring a copy of Print
 Shop Utilities I and copies of the other graphics selections you have
 published over the last several years. My interest is piqued more by that than
 by anything else at the present time.

     I know that, as time goes on, older versions of programs you originally
 printed will be modified and updated and I will have those, also. I plan to be
 associated with BIG BLUE DISK for a long time.

     I just want to reiterate that, in my opinion, you've got the best product
 on the market. Keep up the good work and I look forward to a long association
 with you folks!

 ^1>by purchasing Big Blue Disk #18 as a back issue (all issues of Big Blue Disk
 ^1>are still available for $9.95 each).  However, I must tell you that Print
 ^1>Shop Utilities II contains all the features found in the first version.

 Dear Editor:

 I found your Print Shop Utilities II on BBD #27 to be an excellent program.  I
 frequently use "Newsmaster II", and by using this utility, I have been able to
 vastly increase my library of graphics.  However, I am often frustrated by my
 lack of "good quality" graphics in certain areas and I am writing to beg your
 your creative subscribers to produce some graphics as a goodwill gesture to
 the Canadian subscribers, in particular:

          Hockey Player, Goalie, Hockey Ice Surface, Hockey Stick & Puck,
          Cheering Fans, Woman Figure Skater, Male Figure Skater, Skates,
          Woman Curler, Male Curler, Curling Rock and Broom, Curling Ice,
          Swimming Pool, Diving Board, Person Diving   ...

          ... and to send everyone scurrying for their encyclopdeias:

          Canadian flag and Saskatchewan flag.

 I very much enjoy Big Blue Disk - there is always something of interest.  Keep
 up the good work!

 ^1>sports related figures such as hockey, basketball, and baseball players in

 Dear Big Blue Disk,

 As a new BBD subscriber, I'm already amazed at the variety of programs
 available at such a reasonable price.  My only comment, which is more comment
 than criticism, is a lack of written support for the programs.

 I've had a little trouble following some of the instructions in the software.
 Admittedly, this may be my problem of being used to written support material
 and not looking close enough at BBD.

 Would it be possible to offer written support at an additional charge and by
 making the option available for individual programs, provide only the support
 material subscribers wanted?

 At any rate, I'm enjoying my new BBD subscription and I've found programs to
 use at work as well as home.

 ^1>your letter that you do not have a printer available to you.  Currently, we
 ^1>have no plans to offer printed documentation for an additional charge.  To
 ^1>tell you the truth, I don't believe we ever thought anybody would be
 ^1>interested.  Since most of our readers have a printer they can use to print
 ^1>the documentaion with, I'm not sure whether it would be possible to offer
 ^1>printed copies at an affordable price.  However, I will check into this.

 Dear Big Blue,

 We are very pleased with your magazine.  My whole family is turning into
 computer nuts lately.  There are only three computers at our house and
 sometimes we wish we had a fourth so we wouldn't have to wait to have our turn
 to work or play.  My young adult sons especially love your Alfredo and are
 always disappointed when I have to report that there is not one in "this
 issue."  My sisters and I all love your card games, especially Klondike.

 I would love to see some tutorials on programming in Basic in your magazine.
 I am trying to learn how to program but am having trouble getting started.  I
 don't seem to be able to think in Basic as my sons do who learned programming
 in school.  I would also like to see tutorials for beginners in computers--
 i.e. MS DOS.

 I also would love to see crossword puzzles which we actually play on the
 computer instead of just printing them out.

 When I bought my computer, I thought I would only use it on practical things
 like word and data processing.  Doing such things like my geneology and letter
 writing and balancing the budget.  But I now find myself playing games of all
 types by the hour and only sometimes being practical.  My sisters type recipes
 and crochet patterns and are also really enjoying the games.
