  7.    Back in issue #4, we presented PC-Write, an excellent shareware word
  8. processor.  (That issue is available from us for $9.95 if you wish to check it
  9. out.)  Since it's a shareware program, you are expected to pay a registration
  10. fee if you wish to keep using it.  There's an alternative: you can buy a
  11. registered copy directly from us, which carries no obligation of further
  12. payment.  Our registered copies, at the discount price of $69, include the
  13. program and utility diskettes, a hardbound manual, and technical support and
  14. newsletters from PC-Write's publisher, QuickSoft.  This is a really good deal
  15. for a powerful word processor like PC-Write.  We use this program all the time
  16. inhouse; I'm using it to type this text right now.  It will edit plain ASCII
  17. files, or import or export files in WordStar format.  Support for many printers
  18. is included, and you can customize it for your printer if it's not one of the
  19. ones already listed.  There's even a speling cheker -- oops, spelling checker.

  29. pleased to offer ^1Quicken^0, from Intuit.  This accounting package is ideal for
  30. business or personal use.  It is speed-optimized: it will write and print 20
  31. checks (if you have continuous-form checks for your printer) in 3 minutes; it
  32. can look up a check you wrote 1000 checks ago in 1 second; and it can analyze
  33. your budget vs. actual expenses for a full year in 4 seconds.

  35.    Quicken offers macros to perform repetitive tasks for you entirely
  36. automatically.  It will even remind you to pay your bills when they come due;
  37. you can set it up to pop up a reminder when you power up your machine, even if
  38. you forget to run Quicken.
  39.  
  40.    Quicken's special business sections support payables, receivables, cash flow
  41. forecasting, payroll, petty cash control, and job, client, and property
  42. bookkeeping.  It works great for doctors, property managers, consultants, and
  43. other small businesses.  (It won't work with dollar amounts over $9,999,999.99,
  44. so if you're dealing with this sort of big bucks, you're out of its league.  But
  45. for anyone not at this stratospheric level, Quicken works great!  Once you
  46. expand to the $10,000,000.00 level, you can afford to switch to a higher-priced
  47. accounting package anyway.)

  49.    There's no need to alter your bookkeeping procedures, because Quicken works
  50. just like your checkbook.  There's no accounting jargon like "credit" and
  51. "debit," so you needn't have a degree in accounting to use it.  Comprehensive
  52. documentation and online help is included, and free technical support is
  53. available from the manufacturer.

  55.    With all the kilobuck business software out there, you might expect to pay a
  56. price way up in the three-figure range for a program this versatile.  But
  57. Quicken is available for the amazingly low price of $49.95.  Call us toll-free

  59. disks.  Quicken is not copy-protected, so you can keep a backup and be assured

  68. you keep mailing lists.  ^1Mail-Outs^0 lets you keep lists limited in size only by
  69. your available disk space, and can select sort by ZIP code, name, or other
  70. criteria.  You can print labels or address books of all or selected names on
  71. your list, and you can export sublists to other files.  A word processor is
  72. included to let you write letters using mail-merge commands to address them
  73. automatically.  At $49.95, Mail-Outs is a great buy.

  88.    Has this happened to you:  You've just finished writing an important document
  89. in a word processor, and are ready to save it.  At that moment, DOS informs you
  90. that there's no space left on the disk you're using.  You need to insert another
  91. formatted disk to save your document, but you can't find one.  What do you do?
  92. Some programs let you format a new disk from within the program, but this is a
  93. slow, tedious process.  Other programs have no such feature, leaving you without
  94. a way to save your data if you don't have a formatted disk handy.

  117. ^C^1Copy it Quickly with Quick Copy
  118.  
  119.    SOFTDISK, INC. is a distributor for ALF Quick Copy diskette duplicators,
  120. which are self-contained units requiring no computer to run.  There are Quick
  121. Copy models to copy 5 1/4" or 3 1/2" diskettes, either double-sided or single-
  122. sided in several formats, including IBM PC, APPLE II ProDOS and DOS 3.3,
  123. COMMODORE 64/128, and MACINTOSH.

  125.    The user reads a master copy into the Quick Copy's memory.  From that point,
  126. the Quick Copy will copy two double-sided 360K MS-DOS 5 1/4" diskettes every 40
  127. seconds (that's 20 seconds each!).  3 1/2" diskettes (720K) take twice as long.

  146.    We've released as shareware a program, ^1GateWay^0, allowing system operators
  147. (sysops) of FidoNet-compatible bulletin board systems (Fido, Opus, etc.) to 
  148. open up an electronic mail gateway with various commercial services 
  149. (CompuServe, The Source, MCI Mail, and GEnie; more are coming, and an option 
  150. to create gateways to other systems is supported).  It works by converting 
  151. appropriately-addressed messages in your netmail area to text files which can 
  152. then be sent through a script file (which requires Procomm+ from Datastorm 
  153. Technologies) that actually logs onto your account on the remote service to 
  154. transfer the mail and receive inbound messages.
