NINE CHANCES TO WIN! Start programming today and submit your entry. You could
win one of nine cash prizes offered in CodeQuest '87, the annual programming
contest of Softdisk, Inc., the publishers of BIG BLUE DISK and its companion
publications SOFTDISK for Apple II computers and LOADSTAR for Commodore 64/128
computers. Softdisk, Inc. continually searches for the best software available
to enhance the program variety created by its staff of programming
professionals. The result: thousands of readers throughout the U.S. and Canada
reap the benefits of brand-new, ready to run software collections each and every
month.
1ST, 2ND, AND 3RD PLACE WINNERS FROM EACH DIVISION WILL BE PUBLISHED in
upcoming issues of BIG BLUE DISK, SOFTDISK, or LOADSTAR.
EVEN IF YOU DO NOT WIN A CASH PRIZE, YOUR PROGRAM MAY BE SELECTED FOR
PUBLICATION. Softdisk, Inc. recognizes the skill and talent possessed by
program authors, compensating them accordingly. Generous purchase fees deter-
mined by the complexity and market value of each specific program are paid to
authors. Each contest competitor remains eligible to receive publication fees
should their program(s) be selected for publication. While entries may be
published prior to the contest deadline, early publication will not affect a
program's chance of winning a contest prize. Published authors assign
nonexclusive publication rights to Softdisk, Inc., but retain program
copyrights.
CodeQuest'87 CONTEST RULES:
1. Softdisk, Inc. publications, including SOFTDISK for Apple II, LOADSTAR for
Commodore 64/128, and BIG BLUE DISK for IBM PC/compatibles, feature a variety of
ready to run software including: games, graphics, music, educational programs,
home and business applications, telecommunications, and utilities. Entries are
not, however, limited to these categories.
2. Contestants may submit as many original programs as they wish, so long as
none of the entries has been purchased, published, or submitted elsewhere.
Program entries must be fully debugged and run on one of the following: Apple
II; Commodore 64 or 128 in 64 mode; IBM PC and/or compatible computers.
Programs may be submitted for any or all these computers. The contest period
begins July 1, 1987 and closes January 31, 1988. Winners will be announced
March 1, 1988.
3. Programs must be the original, uncollaborated, and heretofore unpublished
work of contest entrants. Authors of winning programs will be required to sign
an affidavit of originality prior to publication and payment of prize and fees.
Softdisk, Inc. reserves the right to publish names of winners for promotional
purposes without additional compensation.
4. Apple program entries must be written in BASIC or machine language.
Commodore program entries must be written in BASIC or machine language in 64
mode. Program entries for IBM PC and compatibles may be written in any
programming language except those for which special licensing agreements must be
negotiated to ensure legal distribution.
5. Each program entry is to be submitted on 5-1/4" diskette complete with
source code (if applicable) and user documentation. A typed or printed summary
of the program's purpose and objective should accompany the disk. Disk labels
and supporting documentation must all be clearly identified and contain author's
name, address, telephone number, program name, and computer (Apple, Commodore,
or IBM). The program summary is required for information only and will not be
judged as part of the program.
6. CodeQuest'87 contest entries will be judged by the Softdisk staff. The
decision of the judges regarding program content, creativity, general appeal,
ease of use, possible similarities to other submitted or existing programs, etc.
will be final.
7. Softdisk, Inc. employees, spouses, and relatives are not eligible to
participate in CodeQuest'87. Contest void where prohibited by law.
