WORD FILL
by
Ssorg Software
P.O. Box 621331
Orlando, Fl 32862
DESCRIPTION
Word Fill is basically a Fill-in-the-Word type puzzle program.
In this puzzle a marked square playing grid is displayed on the
screen along with a list of words. The object of the game is to
place all the words on the list in the grid. These words can be in
the vertical or horizontal direction. The program comes with a
data file of approximately 1400 words that are used in creating
the puzzle. The words are randomly chosen from the file. The user
can also enter their own words (up to 60) into a playing grid. The
program provides a number of special features. These include the
ability to: save a puzzle to be completed later, change screen
colors, print the puzzle or save it as an ASCII text file, and a
"Boss" key to display a fake DOS screen. There are no special
hardware requirements for the program. The game can be run off a
single floppy disk and can be run in color or monochrome mode.
INSTALLATION
Floppy Disk - The program can be run as is from a single floppy
disk. To do this switch to the drive that has the
disk in and enter "WORDFILL".
Hard Disk - The program "WORDFILL.EXE" needs several files to
be in the current directory or path for the program
to work right. An install program has been included
to set this up for you. To run the install program
type in the drive letter, a colon, and the word "INSTALL".
(i.e. if the program disk is in drive A enter "A:INSTALL")
STARTING
Before starting the program all users should read the
LICENSE.DOC file. This file contains important license information
regarding the use of WORD FILL 2.2. When the program is started it
will first check for the existence of the "COLORS.WF" file. If the
file exists the program will read the file to determine the screen
colors to be used. If the file is not found the game will use the
default colors. The program will then display the main menu on the
screen (see figure 1).

The first four choices determine whether the puzzle will be of
words or numbers and whether a key word or number will be given
initially. A key makes the puzzle easier to solve. It basically
gets you off to the right start.
Option 5 displays directory of uncompleted puzzles previously
saved to files (see Figure 2). You can save any puzzle you are
currently working on and bring it up later using this option.

A saved puzzle can be called up by highlighting it and hitting the
enter key. All puzzles are saved to separate DOS files with the
".WFP" as the extension.
The program comes with a data file of approximately 1400 words
that are used in creating the word puzzles. Random number
algorithms are used to generate the numbers used in the number
puzzles. The words are randomly chosen from this file. You also
have the option, by picking number 6 from the main menu, for
entering your own words or numbers (see Figure 3a & 3b).

You can enter up to 60 words into the playing grid. Normal entry
of the letters is from left to right as you type on the keyboard but
by hitting the F3 key letter entry is switched from top to bottom.
Hitting the F1 key when you are finished will have the program scan
the grid for the individual words and list them (see Figure 3b) as
well as masking the playing grid.
Choosing number 7 from the main menu brings up a screen for
changing the colors used by the program (see Figure 4). You can
pick any of 16 different

colors and replace them with an alternate color for the program to
use. Please remember that screen background colors are restricted
to low intensity colors. These are the first eight colors displayed
on the screen.
Solving Puzzles
While solving the puzzle several options can be called up
using the function keys. A list of these options is displayed at
the bottom of the screen. F1 will exit you from the puzzle back to
the main menu, F2 will remove whatever word your curser happens to
be on, F3 will save the incomplete puzzle to a file to be solved
later and F4 will print the puzzle.
Note - If you use F4 to print the puzzle the format
will be slightly different and your printer
might not support the standard IBM graphic
characters for drawing the lines. If your
printer has an emulation that supports the
IBM symbol set you should use that.
If the program was started with the "/F" switch from the command
line (i.e. WORDFILL /F) using F4 will redirect the printing option
to an ASCII file of your choice. This is useful for those who
would like to import these puzzles into their word processors and
desktop publishers. A boss button has been included for those who
like to play at work (g). When you hit this key (<ESC>) a fake DOS
screen is displayed until another key is hit.
To enter a word from the list into the grid move the cursor to
the desired location in the playing grid. Hitting the enter key
will highlight the first word in the list that's the right size for
that word location in the grid. If the letter your cursor is on is
at the intersection of two words the game will prompt you for the
desired direction (horizontal or vertical). You can use the arrow
keys to go through the list until the word you want is highlighted.
If some of the letters in the word do not match with the selected
area of the grid those letters will blink. Once you have selected
the word hitting enter will place it in the playing grid. The <Esc>
key will take you out of any step in the program.
If you have a monochrome monitor the displays might be easier
to see in two color mode. The program can be run in monochrome mode
using the /M option. To use it enter "WORDFILL /M" at the DOS
prompt and the screens will be displayed in just two colors.
DISTRIBUTION
All shareware distributors, disk vendors and computer clubs
who wish to distribute the Word Fill 2.2 package should refer the
VENDOR.DOC file for information. All BBS SYSOPs should refer to
SYSOP.DOC file. All others should refer to the LICENSE.DOC file.
REGISTRATION
Word Fill is a "shareware program" and is provided at no
charge to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your
friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to
provide personal computer users with quality software without high
prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to continue to
develop new products. If you find this program useful and find
that you are using Word Fill and continue to use Word Fill after a
reasonable trial period (15 Days), you must make a registration
payment of $15. This registration payment will give you the legal
right to continue to use "Word Fill". In addition, all registered
users of Word Fill are entitled to 90 Days of technical support,
a full User's Guide, all documentation, the latest version of the
program, and a free copy of another great game called "Crypto Clue".
To assist you in registering a text file of the registration
form, REGISTER.FRM is included on this disk. At the DOS prompt
enter:
COPY REGISTER.FRM PRN
This will copy the form to your local printer. If you do not have
a printer just write your name, address, and where you got the
program on a plain sheet of paper. Send this along with a check or
money order for $15 U.S. funds (plus $2 S/H) to:
Ssorg Software /WF
P.O. Box 621331
Orlando, FL 32862
You will be sent confirmation of your registration, a disk with the
latest version, along with all documentation and your free game. Site
licenses and group discounts are available.
TECHNICAL SUPPORT
All registered users of Word Fill are entitled to 90 Days of
technical support. Technical support is available to registered
users by telephone, mail or electronically. Non-registered users
will be provided "limited" support by mail. Technical support can be
