The Help Index contains a number of different topics about how to use Relish.
To view a topic, double-click on the topic or select it from the list
(scrolling the list with the scroll bar or arrow keys if necessary) and press
the ENTER key.

The help topics which can be viewed through the Help Index fall into two
categories.
First, there are general topics about what the program is for and how it is
used.
Second, there are special topics concerning detailed concepts that are relevant
to more than one feature or function.

The help topics contained in the index do not include specialized help
information relevant to the detailed use of the program. This information is
available through the Help function (the F1 key).

to make the most of Relish's capabilities. The Contents window and the User's
Guide are the appropriate places to look for this information.

The Relish Time and Information Organizer is ideal for anyone who needs to keep
track of time or manage small projects -- it organizes notes based on who is
involved, what is happening, where it's taking place, why it's important, and,
most critical of all, when to be there.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1. Adding Notes ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The basic building block is a "note." Notes are made for things that need to
be remembered such as appointments, meetings, and to do list entries.
Each note can contain relevant who, where, when, and what/why information that
needs to be kept track of. The program uses times and dates, such as when a
meeting starts and ends, to organize notes in a variety of ways.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2. Filing Notes ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
As soon as a note is entered, it is saved as part of the program's information
database.
There is never a need to use a command or menu option to save notes or close
files -- that's why there is no File option in the main menu!
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3. Grouping Notes into Categories ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Ordinarily, all notes are managed as a single unnamed "group." Additional
groups can be used to categorize notes, such as personal versus business notes,
or to keep separate schedules for different people.
The program can work with either all notes or only those in a particular group.
When a group is chosen, only notes from that group are displayed in the summary
box (or printed) and new notes belong to that group.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.4. Reminders ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
A reminder will be displayed on the screen at the most important time and date
for a note (such as the Start Time of a meeting). Options can be used to change
the style of the reminder or to turn it off, if not needed.
Additional "alarm" reminders can be set to display at any time and date before
the normal reminder time. Any reminder can also be delayed to a later time and
date, thus becoming a "deferred" reminder.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.5. Schedules, To Do List, Summaries ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Notes are automatically organized into daily, weekly or monthly schedules. To
Do notes appear on the schedules (if they have a date due) and on the
prioritized To Do List.
Besides these basic views of notes, schedules can be displayed (and printed)
for arbitrary periods of time. Specialized summaries based on the content of
notes can be generated from the Lookup menu.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.6. Summary Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
At any given time, one schedule or list of notes is displayed as the "summary
box" in the lower portion of the Relish window. As changes are made to notes,
the summary box is automatically updated.
Each note in the schedule or list is represented by a one-line summary of
information from the note. Depending on the type of schedule or list, the upper
part of the box may also contain a graphical view of the time period involved.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.7. Symbols in Note Summaries ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Some one-line summaries are specially marked:
* denotes a potential time conflict
denotes that an alarm is set
! denotes that a reminder is deferred
denotes an attached memo
Γûá denotes the first of a series of repeating notes
┬░ denotes subsequent repetitions
and a checkmark denotes that the note is done (no further reminders will be
displayed).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.8. NOW Service Process ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The NOW Service Process is the portion of Relish that displays reminders and
manages access to stored notes. It runs as a separate OS/2 task that isn't
visible from the Presentation Manager desktop nor from any OS/2 session.
Ordinarily, one need never worry about the Service Process. It starts when
OS/2 starts and stops when OS/2 is shut down. Should the need arise, however,
two programs are provided to control it:
* STARTNOW starts the Service Process
* STOPNOW stops it if it is running.
These programs may be run from any OS/2 command prompt or from the OS/2 File
Manager.
Note: The installation program adds an entry to the OS/2 STARTUP.CMD file so
that STARTNOW is run every time OS/2 starts.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Using Relish ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Relish is easy to use -- it follows the standard conventions of a Presentation
Manager application.
It is optimized for efficient use with either the mouse or the keyboard, both
when entering data and when moving around. It is particularly adept at
interpreting times and dates entered as part of a note.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.1. Dialogs and Menus ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
All commands are made through a series of "menus" and "dialogs."
Starting from the main menu across the top of the window, each action keyword
leads to a menu of options and each option leads to a dialog where choices are
made, information is entered, or actions are carried out.
Most of the dialogs are self-contained, but some complex ones lead to other
dialogs.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.2. Fields and Buttons ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Each dialog consists of "fields" and "buttons."
Fields are used to enter information (such as a name or telephone number). They
are always surrounded by a box and often may contain more text than will fit in
the space provided.
Buttons come in several flavors (such as pushbuttons and check boxes as
discussed in other topics) but their purpose is always to select an option or
action.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.3. Pushbuttons ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Pushbuttons (such as OK or Cancel) always end the current dialog or lead to a
more detailed dialog. The exact function is shown in the message line at the
bottom of the main window.
To carry out the action, click on the button with the mouse, move to it and
press the SPACEBAR, or use the appropriate short-cut key from anywhere in the
dialog.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.4. Radio Buttons and Check Boxes ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Radio Buttons and Check Boxes are used to turn options on or off. Check Boxes
are used for simple on/off options. Radio Buttons are used with sets of options
where one, and only one, option must be on.
To turn a Check Box option on or off, click it with the mouse or move to it and
then press the SPACEBAR.
To control a set of Radio Button options, click the one which should be on or
move to it and then press the SPACEBAR.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.5. Mini-icons ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Mini-icons provide mouse short-cuts:
makes a time and date earlier
makes a time and date later
returns to the default value.
Clicking on a mini-icon while entering a value modifies the value; clicking on
one in the main window changes the date of the schedule; clicking on one in
the reference calendar changes the month displayed.
Also, in dialogs:
provides access to editing functions (like the F2 key).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Keys Help ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The following topics summarize which keys and key combinations are used for
special purposes in Relish.
Note: As a notational convention, a plus sign (as in ALT+BACKSPACE) is used
when two keys must be pressed at the same time.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.1. Movement Keys ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Several different keys can be used to move from one button or field to the
next.
The TAB key moves in a cycle through the various buttons and fields in a
dialog. SHIFT+TAB moves through the same cycle in reverse.
The arrow keys move either up, down, left, or right to an appropriate button or
field -- except that left and right move only WITHIN a field once one has been
reached.
The PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys move up or down by pages within the summary box,
the text of a memo, the list of help topics, a list of group names, etc.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.2. Short-Cut Keys ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Each button, field, and menu item has a short-cut key that can be used to jump
to that item from anywhere in the same menu or dialog.
The short-cut key is the underlined letter in the name of the item. To avoid
confusion with entered text, ALT+(letter) must be used for the short-cut when
in a field.
Also, the ESC key is a short-cut for any Cancel button and the Enter key is a
short-cut for the pushbutton with the darker border.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.3. Selection Keys ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If a check box is highlighted, the SPACEBAR checks or unchecks it. Similarly,
the SPACEBAR selects a highlighted radio button. (But to deselect a radio
button, you must move to another radio button and select it instead.)
When entering or editing text, using the SHIFT key together with a movement key
(such as the right arrow or HOME keys) selects the text from the current
position to the new one (extending the current selection if possible).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.4. Editing Keys ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
When entering or editing text, the following keys are useful.
The left and right arrows keys move in the appropriate direction. When editing
the text of a memo, the up and down arrows move up or down a line.
HOME moves the cursor to the beginning of the current field (or the beginning
of the current line in a memo) while END moves it to the end of the current
field (or the end of the current line). In a memo only, CTRL+HOME moves to the
beginning of the memo and CTRL+END moves to the end.
The INS key switches between insert and overtype mode. In insert mode, new text
is inserted at the cursor position, moving the existing text to the right. In
overtype mode, the new text replaces the existing text.
The DEL key deletes any selected text. If no text is selected, the character to
the right of the cursor is deleted, and any remaining text to the right of the
cursor are shifted left.
The BACKSPACE key deletes any selected text in the same way as the DEL key but
if no text is selected, the character to the left of the cursor is deleted, and
any remaining text to the right of the cursor are shifted left.
Several other keys provide quick access to editing functions:
* ALT+BACKSPACE performs Undo
* SHIFT+DEL performs Cut
* CTRL+INS performs Copy
* SHIFT+INS performs Paste
* CTRL+DEL performs Zap (erase to end)
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.5. Function Keys ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The F1 through F9 function keys on the keyboard are each assigned special uses.
The F1 key displays help information that is specific the current menu item,
button, entry field, or window.
The F2 key displays a special menu which lists the remaining functions (and
other special keys) which can be used when entering information during a
dialog.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Dates and Times ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Since data is organized around keeping track of when things need to be done, it
should come as no surprise that times and dates are often the focus of
attention.
Every note allows several pieces of time and date information to be entered --
exactly what is entered in these fields depends on how the time and date are
best thought of.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.1. More or Less Precise ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The program allows times and dates to be thought of at several levels of
precision:
* 12:43:55 PM Sun Sep 23 1990 (to the second)
* 12:43 PM Sun Sep 23 1990 (to the minute)
* 12:00 PM Sun Sep 23 1990 (to the hour)
* Sun Sep 23 1990 (to the day)
* Week of Sun Sep 23 1990 (to the week)
* Sep 1990 (to the month)
* 1990 (to the year)
A note can use times and dates at any level.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.2. Entering Times and Dates ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The program accepts time and date information in almost any format.
Times can use AM/PM or a 24 hour clock. Dates can use numbers (7/21/91), words
and numbers (Aug 21 1991), or the same in other orders. The combinations that
are recognized are almost endless since the program will also fill in missing
information or determine the date from a day (such as Thur).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.3. The Time Ruler ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Whenever a time can be entered, the "time ruler" is displayed. This ruler
shows the time (or range of times) appearing in the current dialog.
By clicking the mouse on the ruler, the corresponding time is entered in the
current field. (If that field isn't related to a time value, the most
appropriate field is used instead.) A time entered using the ruler replaces
any time already in the field (but preserves any date in the field).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Chime Tones ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Relish uses different chime tones to denote when particular events occur. Most
commonly, a chime tone is played whenever a reminder is displayed.
These chime tones are "programmable" using a string of characters that
represent the notes to be played (and how the program plays them).

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6.1. Basics Of Chime Tones ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The characters shown below are the basic building blocks for all chime tones:
* A B C D E F G each play that note
* # after a note makes it sharp
* - after a note makes it flat
* P pauses (rests) for one note
* > plays notes one octave higher
* < plays notes one octave lower
There are ten octaves (0 to 9); the chime starts in octave 4 ("middle C").
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6.2. Changing the Duration of Notes ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Each note (or pause) in a chime tone is ordinarily treated as a quarter note.
The duration may be varied by following the note (or pause) with a modifier:
* a 2 makes the note a half note (as in A2)
* a 16 makes the note a sixteenth note
* a . (dot) makes the note 1.5 times longer
Note: Any number between 1 and 64 may be used. Also, multiple dots (.) may be
combined.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6.3. Legato/Staccato/Normal Style ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The following commands can be used in a chime tone to control the style in
which the tone is played:
* ML plays the notes smooth and connected with no breaks between tones
(Legato)
* MS plays the notes short and disconnected with clear-cut breaks (Staccato)
* MN plays the notes with normal duration
Unless changed, chimes are played in normal (MN) style.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6.4. Other Chime Tone Commands ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The following chime tone commands set the characteristics of all following
notes:
* a T followed by a number between 30 and 3000 sets the tempo (number of
quarter notes per minute) -- initially 120.
* an O followed by a number between 0 and 9 sets the octave (see also
< and >).
* an L followed by a number between 1 and 64 sets the length of all
following notes (see also Changing the Duration).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Drag-and-Drop ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Drag-and-drop can be used in a number of ways, such as scheduling, revising,
and printing.
For example, when a date, time, or note palette icon is dragged and dropped on
the one-line summary of a note, the note is revised to reflect the new date,
time, or note type. Similarly, a note summary may be dragged and dropped on a
date, time, or note palette icon to achieve the same result. There are also
drag-and-drop operations for creating new notes -- such as dropping an icon
from the note palette on a date -- and for making copies of existing notes.

Also, the contents of the current view can be dragged to a Workplace Shell
printer or to any other program (such as the OS/2 Enhanced Editor) which
supports OS/2 drag-and-drop. This is done by dragging the title of the view,
the number of notes in the view, or by starting the drag operation in the empty
portion of the Relish window.
In addition, individual notes may be dragged to the printer, another program,
or to the Workplace Shell shredder.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7.1. Dropping a Note on a Note ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Dragging and dropping a note summary onto another note summary reschedules the
dropped note to the time and date of that dropped on.
If OS/2 drag-drop copy mode is being used, the note is copied rather than
rescheduled.

Dragging and dropping text anywhere onto Relish displays the Import text
dialog. The text can then be imported from the file used by drag-and-drop to
transfer it from the source.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Help for Note Palette ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This window contains an icon for each of the note types. An icon is used to
create a new note or change the type of an existing note.
The icons represent:
* Appointment
* Meeting
* Notation
* Phone Call
* Run Program
* To Do Item
Note palette icons are used by either double clicking or performing
drag-and-drop operations.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Help for Reference Calendar ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This window contains the calendar for the current month unless another is
selected using Choose Month.
The calendar remains visible on the Presentation Manager desktop when the
program is minimized unless this option is turn off using Setup Desktop.
Mouse users may click on any date in the month to display the daily schedule
for that date or use the mini-icons in the lower right corner to move from
month to month.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. Help for Current Time and Date ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This window displays the current time and date as used by Relish and all other
programs. If the Snooze function has been activated, it also indicates that
reminders are on hold.
Double clicking on the window displays today's schedule.
Options are available under Setup Desktop to control when this window is

When used for phone numbers, this field can contain multiple phone numbers and

The phone number field of phone call notes and phone book entries can contain
multiple phone numbers. When it is time to dial a call, Relish will separate
the numbers and provide them in a list from which to choose.
The phone numbers can be entered in most any format and comments - such as
"home" or "FAX" - can be included before or after each number. The comment
text is ignored when the number is dialed.
Note: If commas are used to separate phone numbers, each comma must be
followed by at least one space. A comma within a phone number instructs the
modem to pause while dialing.

This part of the note contains information about "What" is associated with the
note. Any entry (including no entry) is acceptable.

any information, in any number of lines, as will fit within the number of
characters allowed. Any entry (including no entry) is acceptable.
The suggested use is for a company name and either the mailing address or the
street address.

This field contains the time and date associated with a note. It can be from
very specific to very general: a date and time specified to the second, minute
or hour; or just a day, week, month, or even a year.
It can be in almost any format, and missing information will be filled-in
automatically.
A reminder of the note will be displayed at this time (in addition to an alarm
reminder at an earlier time).

This field contains the end of the time period associated with a note.
As with the start time, it can be entered in almost any format and be very
specific or very general. It can also be left blank to indicate that no range

The alarm time field can be used to specify that an extra reminder will be
displayed in advance of the time associated with a note.
As with the start time, it can be entered in almost any format and be very
specific or very general. It can also be left blank to indicate that no
reminder should appear until the time and date of the note.
The F4 key or the mini-icon can be used to enter an alarm time appropriate to
the note.

The Lookup button is used to access the phone book.
Name, phone number, and other information can be copied from the phone book to
the note being added or revised.

This list includes the names, associated phone numbers, and remarks for all
entries in the phone directory. It is used to select the desired entry from

The Copy options determine which information is copied from the highlighted
phone book entry to the note being added or revised.

note.
When Address is selected, the address information is copied to the where field
of the note.

The Group button is used to assign the note to a group or move the note from

blank entry in the field indicates that the note does not belong to any group

The Detailed reminder is one of five styles that can be used for all reminders

The Detailed button is used to select the most complete reminder. The Detailed
style displays a large reminder with who, what, when, and where information
from the note.
This style allows the note to be deferred, revised, or erased when the reminder
is displayed.

The Summary reminder is one of five styles that can be used for all reminders
which are associated with the note.
The Summary button is used to select an abbreviated reminder. This style
displays a small reminder with limited information from the note.
It can be changed to Detailed style while the reminder is displayed.

The Chime Only reminder is one of five styles that can be used for all
reminders which are associated with the note.
The Chime Only button is used to select an audio reminder. This style plays a
chime without displaying any information from the note.

The Private reminder is one of five styles that can be used for all reminders
which are associated with the note.
The Private button is used to select a silent reminder. This style flashes a
blank screen several times as the reminder rather than displaying any
information from the note and/or playing any chime tone.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14.20.5. Help for Reminder Style: None ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
None is one of five reminder styles that can be used for all reminders
associated with this note.
The None button is used when no reminders for the note are desired. This
includes both the reminder to be given at the time and date of the note as well
as the extra reminder at the time and date of the alarm (if specified).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14.20.6. Help for Special Chime Tone ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This field is used to enter a chime that is associated only with the currently
displayed note. The chime is played in place of the normal chimes whenever a
reminder is displayed. If the field is left blank, the normal chime tones
(defined using Setup) are played.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14.21. Help for Repetition Button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Repetition button is used to repeat the displayed note at another specified
date and time. This is appropriate for regularly recurring events such as
programs that need to be run periodically.
Once set to repeat, the note will continue to repeat at appropriate intervals
until erased or until this button is used to turn the repetition off.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14.21.1. Help for Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
These radio buttons repeat the note at the same time each day, week, month, or
year.
For example, if Yearly is selected and the note's starting time and date is
10:00 AM March 30, 1991, the note appears each year at 10 AM on March 30th.
Similarly if Monthly is selected, the note appears at 10 AM on the 30th of each
month. February would be skipped, however, since it has no 30th day.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14.21.2. Help for On Designated Weekdays ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This radio button repeats the note on particular weekdays during each month.
The exact days are determined by the check boxes for 1st to Last and Monday to
Sunday. For example, checking 1st, Monday, and Friday schedules the note for
the 1st Monday and the 1st Friday of each month.
Any combination of boxes may be checked, but at least one must be checked.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14.21.3. Help for 1st...Last and Monday...Sunday ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
These check boxes determine which days of the month are used to repeat a note
with the On Designated Weekdays option.
For example, checking 1st, Monday, and Friday schedules the note for the 1st
Monday and the 1st Friday of each month.
Checking Last and Tuesday schedules the note for the last Tuesday of each
month.
Checking Last by itself schedules the note for the last day of each month.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14.21.4. Help for Periodically Beginning At ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This radio button repeats the note at a regular interval -- from a few seconds
to many years. The interval is determined by the difference between the note's
starting time/date (from the main dialog) and the note's next starting
time/date (from the Next Start Time Date field).
This option is useful for notes that repeat more frequently than daily or that
repeat at an uncommon interval (such as every three weeks).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14.21.5. Help for Next Start Time Date ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Next Start Time Date field is used to enter the next time and date for a
note which repeats automatically. If the field is left blank, the note is not
repeated.
Once the Start Time of a note has arrived and all reminders associated with the
note have been displayed, the note is rescheduled to start at the time and date
entered as the Next Start Time Date (and any other times in the note are
adjusted accordingly).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14.21.6. Help for Do Not Repeat ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The None button stops repeats of the note. It is primarily useful when a note
has previously been made a repeating note and now no longer needs to be
repeated.
Any repetitions of the note displayed on the schedule are removed when this
option is selected.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14.21.7. Help for Display Next ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Display Next field is used to indicate the number of repetitions which are
shown on the schedule (in addition to the note itself).
If this field is blank (or zero), only the note itself if shown. If, for
example, five is entered, the note and the next five repetitions of the note
are shown. When the note is revised or rescheduled, these copies are
automatically updated as well.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14.21.8. Help for Erase Original When Done ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This check box controls what happens to the note when it is rescheduled.
When the Erase Original When Done option is selected, the note is simply
rescheduled and the entry at the original time and date is automatically
erased.
When this option is not selected, the note is still rescheduled but a copy of
the note remains at the original time and date (with a checkmark beside it).
This is useful for tracking past meetings, etc.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14.22. Help for Memo Button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Memo button is used to access any text attached to the note.
Selecting this button opens a memopad which allows additional information about
the note to be added or changed. The memo can be in any format up to a maximum
of about 32,000 characters.

This menu option is used to control the format of times, dates, and other
information displayed by the program.
Choices can be made for:
* Normal daily office hours
* Time format and update frequency

* Display of note summaries.

These fields can be used to indicate the normal daily working hours. Office
hours might be, for example, from 8:00AM to 5:00PM.
The values entered control the range of times shown in the daily and weekly
schedule graphs as well as the time ruler. They also help in the analysis of
time values whenever AM and PM are omitted.
Either or both values may be left blank.

This set of buttons is used to specify the hour format for all time values
displayed.
Select the 12 Hour button to display time as 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM.

and PM designations).

(and date) of a note appears as part of a summary of the note (in the summary
box or when printing in summary style).
Since each summary is one line long, showing the date and time means there is
less room in the summary for other information from the note.

The Show Graphically check box controls whether or not the summary box includes
a graphic display of time commitments for a day, week, or month.
Daily and weekly graphics show commitments in 15 minute intervals for the work
day. Multiple commitments within the same time period are shown by higher
levels on the graph.
Monthly graphics show the number of commitments for each day of the month on a
calendar.

The Show Column Titles check box controls whether or not descriptive titles are
displayed above the information in the one-line note summaries.
When selected, each applicable column in the summary box is headed with a title
or symbol for the type of information in the column. The column titles are:
* Star symbol : Overlapping commitments
* Status: Special conditions associated with the note are:
** Checkmark: The note is completed
** Exclamation mark: The note is deferred
** Musical note symbol: An alarm is pending
* Paragraph symbol : An attached memo
* Start and End: The start and end time of the note
* Date: The date of the note
* Type: The type of note
* Description: The who, what, and where note contents
Whether Show Column Titles is selected or not, only those columns which
include information are shown in the summary box.

The Group menu option is used to restrict the display to the notes for a
specified group.
When a Group is chosen, its name appears above the menu as part of the title
bar. Only notes for that Group are shown in the summary box or printed. When
notes are added they are automatically tagged for the chosen group.
All notes will be displayed when no Group is chosen.

This field is used to choose which group of notes should currently be used.
Only notes in the specified group will appear in the summary box or be printed.
A blank entry indicates that all notes in all groups (as well as notes not
associated with any group) will be displayed or printed.

This list is used to select the name of a group of notes from the set of all
defined group names.
If it is also allowable to select no particular group, the entry "[All Notes]"
appears at the top of the list; selecting this entry is the same as leaving the
group name blank.

The Month menu option is used to change the month displayed in the reference
calendar. If the calendar window has been closed, using this option will make
it reappear.

This field is used to specify which month is displayed in the reference
calendar.
If nothing is entered, the current month will be shown.

The Options menu option is used to change the usual settings for the style of
reminders and elimination of old notes.
Unless another style is specially indicated for a particular note, reminders
for newly added notes will automatically be in the style selected using this
option.
Notes can either be kept indefinitely or automatically erased after a specified
number of days as selected with this option.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 15.4.1. Help for Automatic Note Erasing ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Automatic Note Erasing is used to indicate whether notes are to be kept
indefinitely or erased automatically after a number of days.
When Keep Notes Forever is selected, notes will never be eliminated, regardless
of age.
When Erase Notes Automatically is selected, notes will be eliminated, but not
sooner than the specified number of days After the latest time and date
associated with the note (which is usually the time of the last reminder).

The Detailed reminder is one of five styles that can be used as the default
reminder.
This button is used to select the most complete reminders. The Detailed style
displays large reminders with who, what, when, and where information from
notes.
This style allows a note to be deferred, revised, or erased when its reminder
is displayed.

The Summary reminder is one of five styles that can be used as the default
reminder.
This button is used to select abbreviated reminders. The Summary style
displays small reminders with limited information from the notes.
The reminders can be changed to Detailed style while they are displayed.

The Chime Only reminder is one of five styles that can be used as the default
reminder.
This button is used to limit reminders of notes to chimes. This style plays
chimes without visual reminders.

The Private reminder is one of five styles that can be used as the default
reminder.
This button is used to select silent reminders. This style flashes a blank
screen several times as the reminder rather than displaying any information
from the note and/or playing any chime tone.

None is one of five reminder styles that can be used as the default reminder.
This button is used when no reminders for notes are desired.

The Snooze menu option is used to delay all reminders until a future time and
date.

If nothing is entered in this field, the Snooze function is not activated and

The Workspace menu option is used to control the sizes and positions of the

the lower portion of the window.
The View menu can also be used to select individual notes from the summary box
so they may be examined, revised, or erased.

updated.

The Now menu option changes the contents of the schedule summary to a list of

This field is used to specify notes for a particular day.
The program suggests the first day of the time period currently displayed in
the summary box.
When a month alone is entered, the first of the month is assumed. If the year
is not entered, the program assumes the desired date is the next such date
after the suggested value.

The Week menu option changes the contents of the schedule summary to a graph of
the week's time commitments. Before the graph is displayed, the week's notes
are temporarily listed so that individual notes can be revised or eliminated.

This field is used to specify notes of an entire week, Sunday through Saturday.

The Month menu option changes the contents of the schedule summary to a

This field is used to specify notes of a certain month and year.
Relish suggests a month and year based on the current display in the summary

This field is used to enter the time and date for the beginning of the desired
time period. Notes which fall between this and the end time will be retrieved.

that day (12:00 AM).

This field is used to enter the date and time for the end of the desired time
period.
If a date is entered without a time, the time period ends at 11:59:59 PM on

The To Do List menu option changes the contents of the schedule summary to a

Which To Do List Notes is used to specify the completion status of the viewed

Select Only uncompleted notes to restrict the view to pending To Do items.

The Sort Order options determine the top-to-bottom ordering of the phone book.
When A,B,C is selected, the entries are sorted in ascending, or alphabetical,
order. Thus, A comes before B, B before C, and so on.
When Z,Y,X is selected, the entries are sorted in descending order, the reverse
of alphabetical order. Thus, Z comes before Y, Y before X, etc.

Each line in the summary box represents a single note or phone book entry. If
the list is longer than will fit on the display, it can be scrolled. As notes
are added, revised, and erased, the contents of the summary box is
automatically updated.
Some notes are specially marked:
* denotes a potential time conflict
denotes that an alarm is set
! denotes that a reminder is deferred
denotes an attached memo
Γûá denotes the first of a series of repeating notes
┬░ denotes subsequent repetitions
and a checkmark denotes that the note is done (no further reminders will be
displayed).
Note: Several options under the Choose Format menu option can be used to
customize the way notes are summarized.

The Add button is used to create a new note.
There is no restriction on the added note. It can be any type (appointment,
phone call, etc.), at any time, on any date, regardless of the current view.

The Erase button is used to eliminate the highlighted note.
Once erased, a note cannot be revised and no further reminders of the note will

All blocks of available time will be listed.
Notes can be added for any selected block of time.

These fields can be used to indicate the time period for the search.
Blocks of uncommitted time (for, at least, the Minimum Amount of Time selected)
that fall within the From Time and To Time will be displayed as a result of the
Lookup.
Either or both values may be left blank, in which case the beginning or end of
day is used.

The Minimum Amount of Time buttons are used to indicate the minimum length of
uncommitted time for the search.
To search for periods of time at least 15 minutes long, select the 15 Minutes
button; for a minimum of 30 minute periods, select the 30 Minutes button; and
so on.
To search for other periods of time, select the Other Amount button and
indicate the desired number of minutes in the Amount field.

Each line in the dialog represents a block of free time. Each block of free
time is for the minimum amount of time specified, or longer.
The list covers the applicable range of time for the day(s) currently in view.

Notes can be added for any selected block of time.

This field is used to enter an optional title that will appear near the top of

This set of buttons and fields is used to specify where notes are to be
printed.
To print notes immediately, select the Printer button (available only if a

Filename. The file will be placed in the program's directory unless a path is
included.

The Job Properties check box is used to indicate whether or not the printer's
Job Properties dialog should be displayed before the notes are actually
printed.
When checked, the Job Properties dialog is displayed just before printing. This
allows printer-specific properties (such as landscape printing) to be changed.
When not checked, no dialog is displayed and the default Job Properties
associated with the printer (or the printer queue) are used.

The Page Per Day check box is used to indicate whether or not notes from
multiple days should be printed on the same page.
When checked, the first note on each day is printed at the top of a new page.

The Detailed button selects the most complete Print Style for notes.

This check box is used to indicate whether or not memos attached to notes

The Summary button selects a single line Print Style for notes.

This button selects a daily calendar-type listing of note summaries arranged by

Note: This style is not available for a To Do List or Overdue List.

The Calendar menu option prints a traditional style calendar, with the days
blocked out in a grid. The calendar can be printed with or without note

The weekdays can be laid out:

* Monday - Friday
* Monday - Sunday
When there is too much information to fit in a block of the grid, "(more)"
appears after the date.
Note: The calendar can only be printed, and not in Text Only mode. It cannot
be placed on the clipboard or sent to a file.

The calendar Period options determine the time period of the calendar, which
conforms as closely as possible to the indicated date.
Select Week for a one week period.

The Layout options determine how the days of the week are laid out in the
printed calendar.
When Sunday - Saturday is selected, the calendar begins with Sunday and runs

weekend days.
When Monday - Sunday is selected, the calendar begins with Monday and ends with
half-sized areas for Saturday and the following Sunday.

The Blank option controls the content of the printed calendar.

entries are interpreted.
The standard settings of the analysis options are usually appropriate, but

This set of buttons is used to specify how certain date entries are treated.
When the DD/MM/YY button is selected, the date 9/2/90 is interpreted as Feb 9,

1990.

This set of buttons is used to specify how a dash (-) entered as part of a time
and date field is treated.
When the To button is selected, 3-5 is interpreted as 3 to 5 (meaning 3:00 to
5:00 or the 3rd to the 5th depending on what other information is entered).
When the Part of Date button is selected, 3-5 is interpreted in the same way as
3/5 (which means either March 5th or May 3rd).

This set of buttons is used to specify how numbers of 2000 or over are treated
when entered as part of a time and date field.
When the Hour and Minutes button is selected, the number 2010 is interpreted as
either 20:10 or 8:10 PM.
When the Year Next Century button is selected, the same number is interpreted
as the year 2010.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 20.2. Help for Setup Chime Tones ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This menu option is used to change Chime Tones which are played for reminders
and certain other events:
* Time (for ordinary reminders)
* Alarm (for alarm reminders)
* Deferral (for deferred reminders)
* Error (for error conditions)
* Warning (for warnings and confirmations).
If desired, all chimes can be turned off.

This check box is used to eliminate the audio portion of all reminders, alarms,
error messages, and warnings (including any special chimes contained in

The suppress option is particularly useful if it is desired to turn off the
chime tones only temporarily.

The Repeat Chime Every field is used to specify the number of minutes between
repetitions of a reminder chime while a reminder is displayed.

This check box controls whether or not messages are displayed to confirm some
actions. Examples of such actions include erasing a note or referencing a
nonexistent group of notes.
When this box is checked, no confirmation is required; otherwise, a warning is
displayed and confirming action is required.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 20.3.2. Help for Desktop Calendar ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This check box controls whether or not the reference calendar is visible on the
Presentation Manager desktop when the program is minimized to an icon.
When selected, the desktop calendar provides easy access to notes for any day
without the need to restore the program by selecting the icon. By clicking on a
date, the summary dialog is displayed; individual notes can be viewed, revised,
erased, or added.

This check box controls whether or not certain pushbuttons can be selected by
alternate key combinations.
Checking this box allows:
* Alt+O for OK

This check box controls the color scheme used by the program.
When the box is checked, the program uses its own colors to distinguish its

This check box controls whether or not a summary dialog is displayed after each
View or Lookup request.
When this option is selected, the summary dialog allows notes to be erased or

OKed, the summary box is updated in the usual way. If the dialog is Cancelled,
the summary box continues to display its content before the View or Lookup.

This check box controls whether or not the time ruler is displayed.
When this box is checked, the time ruler appears near the top of every dialog
in which times can be entered. If the mouse is clicked on the ruler, the
corresponding time appears in the current field (or the most appropriate field
if the current field is not related to a time or date).

This pair of check boxes controls whether or not the current time and date is
displayed in an extra window on the desktop. Either, neither, or both boxes
may be checked.
With the Show When Normal Size box checked, the window appears whenever the
Relish window is visible (unless covered by other windows).
With the Show When Minimized box checked, the window is visible when the Relish
window is minimized.

This menu option is used to change the dialer (modem) connection and setup
options so that phone calls can be made.
The options include:
* Dialer availability

This check box is used to confirm that a dialer or modem is available for Phone
Calls to be dialed automatically.
When this box is checked and other dialer options are accurately specified, a
call will be dialed automatically after its reminder is OKed.
When this box is not checked, no attempt will be made to dial calls.

The Dialer Port buttons are used to specify which port to use for the dialer
(modem) connection.
Most OS/2 systems use either COM1 or COM2 for the modem connection if one is
installed.
When neither of these serial ports (COM1 nor COM2) is used, the Other Port may
be used and an appropriate device name entered.

The Other Port Name field is used to indicate the dialer connection when
neither COM1 nor COM2 is used.
For a phone call to be made, an appropriate OS/2 device name must be entered in
this field when the Other Port option is selected.

The Dial Prefix and Dial Suffix fields are used for numbers that should be
dialed before and after phone numbers (such as the numbers necessary to reach
an outside line or long distance carrier).
To provide flexibility, the dialing of the Prefix and Suffix may be suppressed
on a call by adding a tilde ( ~ ) character before or after the phone number in
a Phone Call note.

The Dial Type buttons are used to specify the type of phone service to which
the dialer is connected.
The two types are:
* Tone dialing

The Group menu option is used to create and revise Group Names used for
categorizing notes:

This field is used to specify the name of a group of notes.
Any designation can be used for the name of a group, but it must be entered
accurately for retrieval.

This button is used to create a new group for categorizing notes.
Selecting this button will create a new group with the indicated group name.
Note that the new group does not become the group being displayed and printed.

This button is used to eliminate an existing group.
Selecting this button will eliminate the indicated Group Name. Notes
associated with the group will lose the group "tag," but otherwise will not be

This button is used to change the name of an existing group.
The indicated group name will be replaced with a new group name (which is

(and only) parameter when run from the OS/2 command prompt.

The Printer menu option is used to change printer connection and setup options
so that notes can be printed.

This check box is used to confirm that a printer connection is available so
that schedules and lists can be printed.
When this box is not checked, "printed" items will automatically be sent to a

This check box controls whether or not printing is done using any available
Presentation Manager printer driver.
When this box is checked, any such driver is bypassed and the notes are printed

Depending on the printer driver used with the printer, this may produce much
faster output.

The Printer Connection buttons are used to specify which OS/2 printer should be
used by the program.
In most cases, the program should use the Default Printer selected using the
OS/2 Print Manager.
If another printer has been installed and the program should use that printer
instead, select Other Printer and enter the appropriate Name for the printer.

The OK button is used to complete the current dialog. The values entered in the
dialog fields are used by the program to accomplish the requested action.
A darker border around this pushbutton indicates that it is the suggested
choice, and thus can be selected using the ENTER key as a short-cut.

The Cancel button or menu item is used to cancel the dialog or menu. Once
