  1. Thank you for trying the demo version of LinkRight.

  3. Installation
  4.  
  5. The install should be easy.  Insert the diskette into drive a:, open
  6. an OS/2 command window, change directory to A:, type install, and follow
  7. directions.  If you have an a: drive that is 5 and a quarter, you can
  8. copy the files on the installation diskette to a 5 and a quarter diskette
  9. and then install.  Or you can install manually.  No files are compressed
  10. on the installation diskette.

  12. Using LinkRight
  13.  
  14. This demo version of LinkRight only has low speed serial connections
  15. enabled.  The shrink wrapped version has parallel port connections and
  16. high speed serial connections.
  17.  
  18. Double click on the LinkRight object from the WPS (you won't use the
  19. OS/2 command line, will you??) on both machines.  Make sure the cables
  20. are hooked up.  Select one machine as Local and the other
  21. machine as Remote.  Under the Connect menu, select which port you want 
  22. to use for both machines.  You should now have a connection established.
  23. The Local machine should have the half window that displays files from
  24. the remote machine filled with the list of files.

  26. After you have the connection established, mark files or directories from
  27. the Local machine by single clicking with the primary mouse button (left).
  28. Then hit the COPY pushbutton.  Double click on a directory or drive to
  29. change to that directory or drive.  The .. indicates the parent directory.
  30. Double click on it to move up one directory level.

  32. You should be able to queue more files to send while files are being sent.

  34. The Refresh push button is to refresh the display for both the Local and
  35. Remote file list.

  37. Late additions
  38.  
  39. During the final testing of LinkRight, one computer, out of many tested,
  40. received garbled files (500 bytes out of 50K were garbled).  
  41. The problem was isolated to the compression
  42. algorithm.  It was found that if you turned off compression, all files
  43. were received well.  Therefore, we added an option to turn off compression.
  44. This problem is not a problem with LinkRight since it worked well on all
  45. other computers tested, and since the particular machine could not execute
  46. PKZIP properly.  It was probably flaky hardware, but we thought we should 
  47. allow a no compress option.

  66. LinkRight version 1.0 is the initial version of LinkRight.  Because of
  67. that, it is not perfect (what software product is??).  By the end of
  68. 1993, Rightware will have version 1.1 available.  All registered users
  69. of version 1.0 will receive, free of charge, version 1.1.  At that
  70. time, you will also receive a coupon that you can use for a $10 upgrade
  71. to version 2.0.

  73. Obviously, we will fix any bugs found in version 1.0 for version 1.1.
  74. In addition, there are many features that we have considered, but we
  75. would like to know which features our customers would prefer. So please
  76. let us know which features you would like to see in version 1.1 and 
  77. version 2.0 of LinkRight.
