  27.         QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE WITH THIS RELEASE

  30. =======    NO SOUND ON PLAYBACK =======
  31.  
  32.     If you have trouble getting playback, verify that MIDI output is
  33.     working by using the Media Player provided in Windows.  If Media
  34.     Player successfully plays within Windows, then you will be able to
  35.     get Midisoft Recording Session to play back by selecting either
  36.  
  37.                   MIDI Drivers / Multimedia Drivers / Extended-Level 
  38.              or
  39.                   MIDI Drivers / Multimedia Drivers / Base-Level 
  40.  
  41.     from the Setup Menu.  Read MAPHELP.TXT for hints on selecting 
  42.     Extended-Level vs. Base-Level Mapping.
  43.  
  44.     Also, before you try anything else, make sure your cables are
  45.     properly connected.  MIDI Out to MIDI In -- MIDI In to MIDI Out.
  46.  
  47. ======= IF YOU HAVE A 286 OR 386SX COMPUTER =======
  48.  
  49.     Our Score and Mixer real-time displays work best with 386 or faster
  50.     computers.  On a slower computer, using this feature can affect the
  51.     responsiveness of mouse clicks during playback and recording.  If you
  52.     have a 286 or 386SX computer, we recommend you disable real-time 
  53.     displays (menu: Options / Follow Score View Notes and Follow VU Meter),
  54.     save the new options (menu: Setup / Save Options and Setup), and use
  55.     these features only as needed.
  56.  
  57. ======= TEMPO INDICATORS SOMETIMES DO NOT UPDATE =======
  58.  
  59.     The tempo indicators in the Mixer view will not update until Play
  60.     or Record is pressed.
  61.  
  62. ======= AUTO-REWIND TO A MEASURE OTHER THAN 1 =======
  63.  
  64.     With Auto Rewind enabled, music will normally rewind back to measure
  65.     1 when finished or when "Stop" is pressed.  To return to a measure other
  66.     than 1, mark the measure by pressing the Play button during playback.
  67.     If you do not want a new auto rewind point after pausing the music,
  68.     continue playback by pressing the Pause button again.
  69.  
  70. ======= ADDING SHARPS AND FLATS =======
  71.  
  72.     The Sharp (#) and Flat (b) tools increment or decrement the number of 
  73.     accidentals that a note has.  For example, applying a Sharp to "B"
  74.     results in B-sharp (B#) and applying another Sharp results in
  75.     B-double-sharp (Bx).  A new feature allows an accidental tool to be
  76.     used in conjunction with the Control key, changing the note to its
  77.     enharmonic equivalent.  For example, applying a Control+Sharp to "B"
  78.     results in C-flat (Cb) and applying a Control+Flat to "B" results in
  79.     A-double-sharp (Ax).  Note that these changes will not be saved in a
  80.     MIDI file format.  To retain these changes, save your work as a
  81.     song file (.sng).
  82.  
  83. ======= SONGLIST.TXT =======
  84.  
  85.     Multiple song lists are allowed, each residing in a separate directory.
  86.     To use a particular song list, load a song that resides in that directory
  87.     and select Save Options and Setup from the Setup menu.
  88.     When you next start Recording Session, you will have the option of
  89.     using the song list.
  90.  
  91.     One song list might read:
  92.  
  93.     c:\studio\relaxing.mid
  94.     e:\midifile\soothing.sng
  95.     c:\sleepy.sng
  96.  
  97.     while another reads:
  98.  
  99.     e:\midifile\awaken.sng

  102. ======= SYSTEM ENHANCEMENTS/CHANGES =======
  103.  
  104.     If you change operating systems (e.g. installing DOS 6.0, upgrading to
  105.     Windows for Workgroups, etc.), either reinstall Recording Session or
  106.     delete your SESSION.INI file located in the directory where
  107.     Recording Session resides.
  108.  
  109. ======= OUT-OF-MEMORY ERRORS =======
  110.  
  111.     If you get an "Out of Memory" alert and have less than 200K of
  112.     available memory left, save your work as a Song File Type (.sng),
  113.     exit Recording Session, and start fresh. We also recommend that
  114.     you consider purchasing more RAM, as all-around performance improves
  115.     dramatically with increases beyond minimal memory.
  116.  
  117. ======= RUNNING ON MACHINES WITH LESS THAN 3 MEGS RAM =======
  118.  
  119.     If you are running on a 2-3Mb computer, your usage of memory will
  120.     affect the operation of our program.  We recommend that you use
  121.     HIMEM.SYS (to access the high 384K Extended Ram), but don't tie up
  122.     any RAM into SMARTDRV.EXE.  If Recording Session claims not to have
  123.     enough memory, Windows might not be correctly detecting high memory.
  124.     Recording Session (or most other Windows software) will not operate on
  125.     a 1Mb computer. You can check your available memory by selecting
  126.     "About Program Manager" in the Windows Program Manager's Help. 
  127.  
  128.     We do not suggest using Expanded memory. (Windows runs best using
  129.     EXTENDED memory, not EXPANDED.)
  130.  
  131. ======= OTHER MEMORY DRIVERS =======
  132.  
  133.     Because Recording Sessions' MIDI drivers require instant 
  134.     access to memory, problems can be avoided by not using memory
  135.     managers (such as earlier versions of QEMM) which intercept and
  136.     map memory calls.  We recommend that you simply use the HIMEM.SYS
  137.     driver that comes with Windows.  Similarly, TSR programs that are
  138.     using your computer's clock can also cause problems.  If you
  139.     are getting machine crashes or lock ups, we suggest clearing out
  140.     your machine's startup files (AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS) to the
  141.     bare minimum (even remove DOS shells) and try running Recording
  142.     Session again before contacting our technical support department.
  143.     Remove non-essential entries in your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT 
  144.     files, as well as bringing down the FILES= and BUFFERS= values 
  145.     in your CONFIG.SYS.  If you are using DOS 5 (or later), also 
  146.     make sure that you have a DOS=HIGH entry in CONFIG.SYS.
  147.  
  148. ======= NORTON DESKTOP FOR WINDOWS =======
  149.  
  150.     You might experience path or driver problems using Norton Desktop.
  151.     If you encounter such problems, we recommend installing Recording
  152.     Session again into Windows Program Manager.
  153.
