The 3,000-strong Singapore Chinese Anti-Japanese Volunteer Battalion was called 'Dalforce' as their commander was Lt-Col. John Dalley of the Federated Malay States police force. Their headquarters was in a Chinese school. Volunteers of Dalforce were given uniforms and simple weapons like shotguns, parangs, and hand grenades. They only had 10 days of crash training, but had everything to lose and so were prepared for all-out resistance. Dalforce later became the centre of the resistance movement in Malaya. ^^^
