Small, broad-leafed trees had become plentiful so perhaps it toppled these with its horned head to get at their leafy crowns. With a deep, narrow beak like a parrot's it cropped tough leaves and twigs, then chopped them into small pieces with self -sharpening cheek teeth that sheared like scissor blades. The fleshy cheeks (or perhaps horny sheaths) rimming Triceratops' jaws would have stopped this food falling out as it chewed.
