Labels:text | tree | screenshot | outdoor OCR: X PREHISTORIC CONIFERS Towering relatives of today's redwoods dwarfed mighty Brachiosaurus. The redwoods formed tall green pyramids, and Brachiosaurus might have cropped their lower, leafy twigs. Perhaps it stripped away all leaves up to a certain level, to leave a so-called browse line. Other types of trees, such as relatives of Chile pines, also existed at this time. Their soaring trunks sprouted leafy branches only near their tops - safely out of reach of nibbling by this long- necked dinosaur. The leaves would have been hard and spiny, making them almost inedible anyway. Shrubby, palmlike plants were common away from the trees.
